Shyeah, Intel is gonna compete in the GPU space. When pigs fly.
I’m amazed they released the DG1 in the first place, I expected it to be stillborn.
Didn’t you hear that DG2 has… compute units? /s

Intel isn’t even competing very well in the CPU space lately, I’m not holding my breath for them to make some waves in the GPU market. :)
Like I said, any other time, sure. Right now? Just need to show up and not suck completely.

Oh, definitely, just having an available card would have a lot of appeal right now. I’m just having fun taking cheap shots at Intel’s woes lately. :)

That’s primarily on process though.
Then again, if they are using outside fabs they have all the same cost and supply problems as everyone else, and there’s no way their architecture is going to be a match for AMD or NVidia. And they’d be far better off using their own 10nm capacity for CPUs.

I met with Intel about how they were going to enter the GPU market and disrupt it by offering excellent performance at a reasonable price.
Do those rumors say 3.0 will work on current DLSS-supporting hardware?
Better late than never? :D

The rumors don’t specifically address that but any card with RTX in its name will support it. It’s a driver thing.
Yes, unless you like under-clocking the ever-living shit out of your card because the fans won’t go above 1100 rpm.
Interesting discussion. So my take-home from this is that I should go with the slightly inferior 3060 because it has RT and DLSS support which will pay off both now and down the line. I guess I can upgrade it in the future when GPUs become more widely available again (or when the bitcoin bubble bursts once more).
Of course, I still have to find one in stock. They appear somewhat more readily than the Ti version here, but it could be a wait. I may avoid PNY!

What rez do you play at? DLSS is more important for higher resolutions, and RT will be unachievable with a 3060 for most games that support it anyway. If your primary purpose is to have a card that can do better in VR, the AMD is probably the better choice.
It’s clear you had a bad experience, but FWIW I have had no problems like this for my 3090, nor heard of others with other 3000-series cards with similar issues.
Maybe. I suspect most people don’t pay any attention to it. Once the card gets to 90C it down clocks. Does it work? Sure. Are the frames good? Sure. Are they inferior to every other make? Yes again.
PNY tech support said this was normal.
Are you and the others running GPU-Z and watching it like a hawk?

The GPU I have never hits close to 90C. If it is downclocking it will affect fps, which means if you think the frames are good you are not actually having any downclocking issues especially if the fans aren’t crazy loud.
Doing a 3dmark stress test on it gives me the average score for a 3090. Noone will claim it is one of the best models, but it reaches the fps mentioned in the 3090 reviews without alot of noise or heat (in my case anyway). The one I bought was significantly cheaper than the ASUS/EVGA/etc. models.
Well, 3090 isn’t a 3080. PNY support specifically told me there’s nothing wrong with my 3080 and that it’s supposed to get to 88C+. How else am I supposed to take that?
They are shit cards – at least the 3080 is – and you shouldn’t buy one unless you want to learn how to underclock the shit out of them.

Wow… I had assumed you were talking about a random video card from years ago that burned you from PNY. If you bought a 3080 from them that hits 90C and support told you it’s WAD, your anger is justified!
It is really surprising too, as the 3090 uses more power and is barely any bigger than the 3080 (at least the smaller Revel 3090 model which I have).

PNY support don’t want to RMA the card. I am unsurprised that support is shit. Tales of woeful support from GPU AIB manufacturers from basically everyone other than EVGA (and maybe Asus?) are pretty much universal.
I would never buy an expensive piece of kit without a reseller in between me and the awfulness that is PC manufacturer support. (And not Dell or HP, who are if anything worse).
Your card has a defective fan and you should RMA it.
Almost sounds like they forgot to put thermal pads or paste on your card.
I’m playing at 1440p at the moment, plus I’m using VR streaming from the PC via a USB 3 cable to my Oculus Quest 2. The AMD card would be a better choice for VR undoubtedly.

DLSS works great at 1440p output resolution and it does support VR games now, although I don’t know how many VR games support DLSS.
Newest CP2077 supports AMD ray-tracing. It runs like rotting garbage. This is no surprise because a) AMD’s RT is much slower than Nvidia and 2) No DLSS. RT isn’t really playable on Nvidia either, without DLSS.
