The fans only spin from ~1050 rpm at 0% to ~1125 rpm at 100%.

At least it’s quiet.

I expect you’ve tried adjusting your fan curve…? My 2 fan 3070 gets loud, but at least it’s doing something :)

Yeah, does nuttin. Looked for a new BIOS, too, but I had the latest as of a few months ago.

Ebay that sucker! Play boardgames and read classic literature for a year! Rebuy next year!

Avoid fan noise and become more rounded indivdual!

I have all the answers.

Alternatively, anything you could do with case cooling…? I’d be worried about moving into warmer weather.

Resizable BAR support is now available on NVidia 30x0 cards & it can provide small but meaningful performance improvements in some games (like 6-12%).

Note that there are a number of pre-requisites. But FWIW I just finished going through these for my Asus B550 with AMD 5900x + Nvidia 3080FE without issue.

  1. Compatible motherboard, chipset, CPU, and firmware
  2. Updated Geforce driver
  3. Updated Nvidia 30x0 firmware

Hmm. So the MB needs a BIOS update? I seem to have got into a state where I can’t access my BIOS. I think I maybe disabled USB on boot… maybe :/

Yes it probably does need a firmware update. Some motherboards have a button to reset the BIOS to default state, which would re-enable USB and allow you to use flashback. Or you could let it boot and then remote into it and start the update from Windows (assuming your vendor has a Windows BIOS flashing tool). There are probably a million more ways around this if we spend a little time thinking on it.

Ha - I did an update from Windows to no apparent avail. Not sure if Asus themselves have updated yet.

Edit: Though that did reset defaults and let me into my BIOS again so that’s good :)

Updated my GPU VBIOS fine, but my motherboard fails to POST with resizable BAR enabled. It’s something with my customized settings as it works right after clearing the CMOS, which is what I had to do to recover from it! Good times, good times.

Hrmm, my Z370 motherboard now has a new bios update to enable Re-BAR, but in my understanding it’s only possible to enable it for 10th and 11th generation.
Shall I be a lab rat and try it out? Gigabyte boards have a dual bios feature so I could roll back incase something bricks up, right?

Meanwhile, available bios(ii?) for the GPU are confusing me.

Sigh. The internet claims the Asus GPU update tool doesn’t run on ‘Legacy’ rather than UEFI bios modes. I think that’s enough futzing for a while.

While neat, I’m not sure if I really care about eeking out frames in any of the short list that are supported.

Think it’s not worth my time yet even though I have a compatible card and motherboard.

You need to run GPU-Z, go to advanced, dropdown to Nvidia BIOS, and check for “messages” to see what version you have installed now. That determines which one you need to install.

It’s kind of a ridiculous thing to expect many users to do, and flashing a VBIOS is a scary, scary endeavor. Now imagine your computer no longer POSTs like mine. People going to shit a brick.

I don’t screw with BIOS unless something really, really compels me too. By the time I start thinking about it, I am usually close to a new build anyway and just avoid it.

But, but, but it’s 0% to 8% faster! In 9 games!

Mine posts but if I have Rebar on in the Bios it will not start Windows - it just automatically goes back into the Bios on startup. Dunno what that means.

Does it go into the bios 0-9% faster though?

Try turning off “CSM mode” in your BIOS.

I went to the effort of converting over to GPT and UEFI but still no luck yet. I can get into Windows with Rebar on now though :)

How is that not working then? Your problem was it wouldn’t boot to Windows earlier.
