I had a 1060 which I ebayed for $300, so paying another $120 ish on top of that for a 3060 will feel like plenty of an upgrade for me.
I don’t buy a card every gen, there’s no reason really for that anymore.
Not at all, the 3060 is comparable to a 2070 non-super (a notch above the 2060 Super), while the 3060ti is more like a 2080 Super. So the 3060ti is a much better value in terms of frames per dollar, but the 3060 is a sizable upgrade over the 2060 non-super, and a small one over the 2060S.
If the 3060 was comparable to the 2070 Super it would be a much more attractive product. All the non-super 20-series cards offered crap performance. The gap between the 2070 and 2080S is immense.

Man, I guess I should put my old 1070 up for sale.

I’m half tempted to just throw a bunch of money at originpc. Seems like the easiest way to upgrade these days. Hell, even the consoles seem to be completely missing from shelves.
Despite me finally sitting here on my 3080 and 5900X, I would have given much more consideration to a prebuilt if I’d had a better appreciation of the difficulties back when I started collecting parts last year.

I went with NzxT last November against most advice on here who said to wait. Glad I didnt but I’d still recommend them even if the price has gone up 35% since than. I found them to be about 15 -20% cheaper after shipping than Origin back then for similar builds.

NZXT here as well. Super happy with mine, even moreso now that parts have been so hard to come by. I feel like I found a unicorn without realizing it at the time.
If I was one of those people, well, I was definitely wrong.

Lol. Normal times that advice makes total sense.
Honestly, my wife made me pull the trigger. She was sick of my whining. That and Hope.

Looking at NZXT they arent offering a 3080 currently :(. I guess I could take the lowest option and stick my 2080 in for now, and maybe some day upgrade.
Should check out the dells, you can find one with a 3080 starting around $2,200.

Check daily as inventory changes. I have seen 3070s, 3060 and 3090s recently when scoping builds for my nephew. The 3080s are the rare unicorns it seems. They had email alerts at one point for certain cards maybe check for that.

The problem I have with Dells, at least the last time I grabbed one is that they are built without any thought to potentially upgrading. So the psu will be just enough to get the job done with the current hw, and there likely is just enough space in the case to fit everything. My last one ended its run with me with the side panel off to be able to get a new gpu in, and a psu sitting on top of it to power the new gpu. :)

I see 1 Alienware at dell for $2,800 with a 3080. No thanks!
Edit: NM had to customize a lower specced one to get it down to 2200.

I had the same problem with Dells, and that’s why I don’t buy them anymore. Although my experience with them is about a decade out now. They used to be my go to manufacturer before I started building my own.

For work purposes I would like one of the higher end Ryzen cpus, like a 5950 at least, so I will be paying eye watering prices between that and a 3080 whichever way I go. I should have upgraded a year ago, when I first had the thought.
Did NZXT ever actually recall from their “your computer has a high likelyhood to catch on fire” issue?
They sent new risers and plastic screws to everybody, I believe.
Also “high likelihood” is only correct in a relative sense, in that most computers might have a 0.000001% chance and that NZXT chassis had a 0.001% chance, or whatever. That said, it’s a higher chance of your house burning down and possibly the delicious aroma of roast long pig, so probably worth exchanging the riser if you have that case.
That’s not my understanding of hte Gamer’s Nexus analysis. Since the risers (even the new ones they gave out at some point) didn’t have protection around the screw holes very common wear and tear from the screws has a very high chance of the screw hitting the ground wire inside the PCB, thus causing a short and fire.
But it’s been a while since I watched their coverage of it and could be misremembering.
