Yo guys! Chinese government is about to fuck with the miners. Energy use is insane and they consider it a threat to their collective wellbeing and the stability of the state. Shut 'em down. Or kick 'em all out to outer Mongolia or Afghanistan or some such shit.
So yeah the ChiComâs may be evil bastard assholes for what theyâre doing in Xiniang but this, this I can get behind. Fuck them miners, fuck them till theyâre a bloody pulp.
More about the Chinese government being threatened by commerce not tied to WeChat that they canât control, I reckon.
Soon we will have too many video cards in stock!

Since you posted it in this thread, itâs worthwhile noting that exactly 0 GPUs are used for bitcoin mining.
This is true, but letâs hope they go after cryptocurrencies generally.
Is it all custom chips at this point? Do they take fab space away from gpus?
Yes Bitcoin is mined on ASICs, dedicated chips. ASICs are produced in TSMCâs 7nm process but volume has got to be miniscule compared to general purpose GPUs and CPUs. Theyâre already placing orders for 5nm ASICs too.
Just got a notification from evga and well, spent $1000 on a 3080 FTW3. Plan to sell the Gigabyte 3080 to someone at work for what I paid for the evga. Itâs fine but I really prefer evga.
Do you recall when you signed up for alerts on that card? Iâve been signed up on the evga site for every 3080 to auto-notify since the 2nd week of January.
I donât, but it must have been September 2020 because I successfully ordered the Gigabyte on October 2nd.
Sorry man. Iâd sell it to you but shipping etc is a pain. Happy to get an EVGA, Iâm really put off by the Gigabyte rma experience.
Hey I feel ya, I RMAâd my Gigabyte GTX1080 , its got a wonky hdmi port, they tested it said it was ok and sent it back to me. I am pretty sure they spent 5 seconds testing the hdmi port and said its fine. Problem is the port randomly loses connection. Card works fine via display port, so I use it in my backup pc.
EVGA RTX 2080 putzing along fine in my main (but old) pc for now.
Ahh 2080 is perfectly fine, you shouldnât be hurting too badly!
Ooh, and I just realized I can step up to the 3080ti, if itâs any good, too! Yeah, baby, yeah.
Yeah the EVGA line is still really really long. The shortest of the lines are for the two 3060 models, which are predicted to finish in like September. The other cards are all next year or even later to finish the queue at the current rate of delivery. Iâm on vacation but you should be able to find the forum post with the queue info with proper googling.
At this rate I canât wait to queue for a sweet RTX4080. ;)
The rule is to queue up as early as possible, every second counts.
Actually EVGA shows when you signed up on their website. I signed up for notifications on September 21 2020.
Also itâs the 3080 FTW3 Ultra, their highest-end non-watercooled 3080. Which means pretty much nothing because all 3080s perform the same, but hey, I got that one. Maybe itâll run a bit cooler or quieter.
Iâm an âeliteâ member and I do plan to queue to step up to the 3080ti if itâs any good. As this is a somewhat ridiculously expensive 3080 (in terms of MSRP, anyway) I canât imagine Iâll pay anything but shipping.
The notifications can be tracked at the link below. Looks dead on, again 9/21/20.

Finally gave in and ordered an NZXT BLD system this morning. Ended up going with the a 5900x, and a EVGA 3070 FTW3 Ultra. The next jump up on GPU was the 3090 for $1700 more, and the 3070 will be just fine for my 1440p LG 144hz gsync monitor. Should have it mid to late June. It was a bit of a toss-up between NZXT and Origin. NZXT showed the specific gpu sku being used though, so getting the evga helped decide. I ended up settling for the 5900x which dropped a bit off the price at either site. In the end I donât think it really wouldâve been worth the cost of the 5950x for 8 more threads. The 24 threads on the 5900x will still be a huge boost over the the i7-6700k for kernel builds for work. Now to just wait.
