The price is crazy, however in a world where 1080ti’s go for 6-800 bucks I could see people paying 1800.

Sure, I guess I could see that if money means nothing to certain people because they have a shit ton of it. For me, even if I had all the money in the world, I still wouldn’t pay that price because I’d always know I was ripped off.

O I feel the same way. Hell, I managed to get a 3080 FTW3 Ultra for 800 and felt I overpaid. One of the many problems now is availability of video cards as a whole. Doing a quick glance on Best Buy the best card in stock is a 1030 2GB card for 129 bucks. Pretty much the same for the 2 MicroCenters in my state unless you want to drop 900 bucks for a older model Quadra.

Remember in the before times, when we could walk into a store and buy a video card from a selection of many on a shelf. Good times.

remember

I remember the old timey days when you could buy the next gen card and see a 25 percent increase in performance. And that was a minimum, it was not uncommon to see higher increases.

My problem is I have a 9 year old system and I badly need a new one. I decided to wait until the new GPUs and CPUs dropped in the fall before getting one. Huge mistake. Now I’m stuck and it sucks.

Yeah, it’s crazy. My friend put together everything for a new system and just needed a video card. That was about 5 months ago and he’s still trying to get a video card at non-gouging prices.

Yeah, I don’t build systems. Too nerve wracking and I can’t afford to screw it up so I need to get a system from somewhere like NZXT that’s builds it for me. Or, get lucky and find a nice prebuilt system somewhere I actually would want.

NZXT is what I ended up going with. And at the time I felt like “Wow, okay, I probably overspent here but whatever…”, I usually build systems myself. Now that computer looks like a bargain. $700-$800 for a 3080 feels like a steal these days.

Really sorry for everyone trying to source parts, especially while holding onto their wallets. This sucks.

I can’t. In the UK, basically all the stores selling PC components disappeared.

They’re dreaming, 3060ti will never sell for $1850. On eBay the highest I see in completed auctions is $1500 and several are around $1000. Still ridiculous for what it is, but not $1850.

Are you happy with it?

I gave up on my GPU quest and ordered an NZXT with a 3070 on Tuesday. It was “overpriced” in the sense that I could build it cheaper if someone sold me a 3070 and a 5900X at list.

Yes, I’ve been super happy with it. Very clean build and haven’t had any issues in the 7-8 months I’ve had it. Will likely go through them again when it’s time for a new system.

NZXT’s BLD service is pretty great, if you’re happy with NZXT parts of course. And they’re generally fine too.

Good to hear!

This thread is near daily affirmation of how lucky (and pleased) I am to have gotten a 3060 Ti at MSRP in December.

Hell, I got a 3080 in October! Admittedly it broke and I had to RMA it, but it’s fine now. And I got another 3080 yesterday-- also at MSRP!

#notsohumblebrag

That was before cryptocurrency. I know the pandemic + chip shortage + people not taking vacations and all that has worsened the situation this time around, but remember mid-late 2017?

Until governments make it a true PITA to use the banking system to exchange fiat money for crypto spacebux, we’re never getting back to those halcyon days. Yes some cryptocurrency will still be “mined” but it’ll be for dark web commerce in illegal goods, period, and not for asset speculation which is what’s driving all this bullshit now.

Comment I found

Spoke to someone at the Microcenter in Brooklyn, NY and he was telling me that scalpers were paying addicts from the local Methadone clinic to sit in wait in line for them. He also mentioned that some KIDS were being paid to sit and wait in line.

I’m never getting a video card.

Just gotta be smarter. I bet addicts and KIDS would flip to a better offer.
