Came across this ebay price trend graph

It was made by a miner so prices are price per Eth MH. Point being that ebay prices are starting to come trend downwards at least.

Yes I definitely had seen anecdotal reports that prices were coming down, it’s great to see it in this form.

Missing from this generation of GPUs:

What kind of temps are people seeing with their 30x0 cards? So far the 3070 XC Ultra seems to run fairly cool, with it being in the low-mid 60s when playing CoD, and idles in the upper 30s. My 2080 ran a lot warmer than that. IIUC though they basically took the 3080 cooling solution and stuck it on this 3070.

Those are great temps. My two fan 3070 would get up towards 80 in heavy games like Cyberpunk. I undervolted to knock 5 degrees off in fact.

Well there is anime stuff now for cards:

So anyway I got that EVGA 3080 FTW3 Ultra card installed finally, sold my buddy the old Gigabyte. Run a benchmark and my UPS starts beeping. It’s overloading my 1000VA UPS.

Turns out the EVGA card uses up to 410w of power. Not a typo. Is it faster? Yeah, a smidge, like a couple percent maybe? Anyway I undervolted it to a curve with 950mV set at 1900Mhz and now it sits around 350w, which is still insanely high but doesn’t make my UPS beep. Couple percent of performance gone, but it is extremely quiet. And not a frickin’ Gigabyte so if it breaks they’ll support the dang thing.

And you can flash an “OC BIOS” which lets it uses up to 450w. Insanity!

What software are you using to undervolt? Afterburner?

Installed my 3070 FTW3 Ultra over the weekend and did some testing. With the Unigine Heaven benchmark running, out of the box it was hitting 1950MHz and about 1.07V, using 270W max. Temps got to the upper 60s.

I dropped the speed to 1875MHz and was able to get a stable undervolt at 887mV. Power usage is now 170-180W. Temps have dropped into the low 50s, think I saw it touch 55 briefly once. It’s ridiculous.

I think the 3070 may now be using less power than my old 1070 Ti. Makes me wish I’d tried undervolting the 1070 Ti too.

Yes. Also using HWInfo for additional monitoring.

Yeah MSI afterburner. You modify the voltage curve, it’s pretty easy. Drops power usage and temps by a lot, drops performance by a little.

My 3080 runs at around 65 when gaming and 30 when idle and rising depending on how long it’s been since I’ve last cleaned the front filter.

Hah, my 3080 undervolt is stable at 1875MHz at 850 mV, and it can still max out power and push the temp way up. I blame the shitty Palit VRM and cooler. It’s so bad the undervolt improves performance, as otherwise it hits the power limits at 1750 MHz for some workloads.

Still a great card though, despite Palit’s efforts to screw it up.

Yep, the truth is it doesn’t really matter which model you choose, every 3080 is basically the same, so long as the card isn’t actually defective.

Is there some way with Afterburner to get it to go back to ‘desktop’ clocks? Once my low voltage / high frequency profile is running, I never drop back to 200 at low loads i.e. once gaming is done. Can I configure the curve to make that happen somehow? I don’t know why it doesn’t happen anyway.

You must have done something wrong.

  1. Run MSI afterburner
  2. Drop your max core by 290Mhz
  3. CTRL-F to open the voltage curve
  4. Select the voltage you want to cap at (950mV in my case) and drag it up to 1900Mhz
  5. hit the apply button
  6. that’s it!

That is literally all I do for the core and voltages. For memory I just give it +500Mhz to run at its actual rated speed.

Hmm. Will try again.

I too have a shitty cooler on my 3080. It’s a PNY and the fans won’t go above 1100 RPM. I had to settle on 1830Mhz at 850mV. The card still gets up to 84C.

(I can get it stable at 1900Mhz at 900mV without RTX, but, I’m not going to switch profiles based on whether or not the game is doing RTX.)

Wow, 850 is really low. How much wattage does it use there? Like 300w?

Dunno, I didn’t take a screenshot of GPU-Z when I was playing Cyberpunk 2077, and I no longer have CP2077 installed. And really, what else is going to push a 3080?

I can tell you it draws ~150w snoozing along to WoW at 99 FPS.

Trying out different games, Mechwarrior 5 pushed the temp up to 67, but it looks like it won’t get much higher than that. A nice improvement over the 2080 which could get into the low 80s.
