Just like @John_Many_Jars

Yeah, you definitely want to open up that case and go at it with canned air or the equivalent. Careful when blowing out the fans. You’re supposed to hold them still, I gather.

Its been a good 2 years since I put in the RTX2080 , and it was a bit dusty at that time, I did can air the cpu cooler fan and fins and said good enough, I guess its a good time to give it a cleaning.

Shrug, if it’s working fine who gives a crap? If you’re up for a project though, clean it and make sure it’s at positive pressure, move fans around.

Dude. Suck, don’t blow.

My work buddy, who signed up for an EVGA card when they first went on sale (last October? something like that) finally got a notification that he could get a 3080. He’s over the moon!

Yeah that’s how I got my second 3080 last month, from the EVGA queue. I’m using it now. The Gigabyte was fine, other than the stupid power connectors that made me RMA it, but that really soured me on the card.

Another one checking in. Solid case, hasn’t failed me, definitely get it set up for positive air but the draw is good through front side gaps, nice & silent even with the window option.

I do seem to have a bit of a rattle/vibration that travels up the case from the hard drive bay (currently just the 4 bay set up to hang from top), any similar experience or should I mount differently?

And to not sidetrack from discussion and add to the topic: the case fits very large GPUs without an issue, so there :D

Seeing 3070 prebuilts under $1500, 3080 under $2000. Looks like the drought is easing.

I kind of forgot I actually signed up with an notification from EVGA but I just got this message from them:

This email is to notify you that there has been a change to your notification queue status. You previously signed up to be notified when 08G-P5-3755-KR became available, but due to ongoing product availability, you have been moved to the notification queue for 08G-P5-3755-KL, which features NVIDIA LHR. These cards offer the same gaming performance, but with reduced cryptomining performance (Ethereum). The products are identical in every other way. To learn more about NVIDIA LHR, click here.

EVGA has taken these steps to increase availability and speed up the queue for gamers looking to purchase a graphics card. Your notification queue position remains the same. However, if you wish to remain in the notification queue for 08G-P5-3755-KR you may "opt out " of this move; you will be once again placed back in the notification queue with your previous sign-up time. Please note that EVGA strongly recommends against opting out, because there is no ETA for availability and no guarantee that your order will be fulfilled for your original part number. Moreover, once you opt out, you may neither request to be placed back in the queue for 08G-P5-3755-KL, nor request an order notification for 08G-P5-3755-KL; you may only be in one queue at a time.

So they’re saying there are gaming cards out there that are just as good for gamers but not good for miners? Is this just marketing spiel because if it’s not… I am totally onboard with being in a market separate from miners.

Same here. I signed up for the queue for 2 3080 SKUs (much after they came out, so I’ll probably never actually be chosen), but I haven’t gotten that email you just got.

EDIT : 3080 not 1080. I have a 1080 now, which may be failing (fails to consistently make the hardware handshake with my monitor after sleep).

Did you disable deep sleep in the monitor? I had this longstanding intermittent problem where I’d lose signal/power to my monitor whenever doing something GPU related (Handbrake, games, video playback) and disabling deep sleep inside the monitor’s OSD fixed it for me.

Yes, it’s definitely unchecked in the monitor* settings for both HDMI and DisplayPort. The problem only occurs with the DP connection, never with HDMI. Started doing it about 14 months ago when I replaced an internal (non-boot) HDD and reassigned some drive letters.

At least once when it’s happened I’ve checked with another monitor that I have that has a Display Port connection and still get no signal so I figure it must be the video card or its DisplayPorts. When it does fail to make the handshake I find that hitting the computer’s reset button manages to make the handshake happen and wake the monitor, and does so without rebooting the PC.

*an ASUS G-Sync one I bought in 2017.

I wonder if it’s a bug in Windows? I have the same issue with my monitor now that I put it on display port and Windows has known issues with waking monitors back up after sleep. Last I googled the issue they had a patch planned in an update they are working on now.

Hmm, well, I suppose it’s possible. I also have that weirdness whereby every time there’s a Windows update since maybe a couple of months back, I get a black screen save a flashing taskbar for a good two minutes or so before getting a usable desktop.

Look for a monitor firmware updates as well. I had this issue last year with A new LG. I ended up returning it as I could not solve it. They have since fixed it via updates. Also try a different cable if you have one.

I haven’t checked for a firmware update, now that you mention it. Didn’t even know those were a thing for monitors. BTW, do video cards get those too? Assuming those would need to be installed with some software tool.

I did check recently for an updated driver and there wasn’t any.

Also tried a different cable, no joy.

Ugh Monitors have updatable firmware now? My LG 144hz panel has been acting up for the last few months, wonder if that’s what will solve it :roll-eyes:

That’s a good thing, the ability to fix bugs is a positive.

Yeah; everyone with a Samsung G7 is likely quite happy about it.
