My hope from all this is that it’ll keep game developers focused on making their games accessible to a wide range of hardware rather than just assuming everyone is on a powerhouse GPU. Not that they aren’t doing this today, and they should absolutely push the limits where they can - but let low/medium settings not be utter trash or ignored.

Elden Ring is playable (so far) on my son’s underspecced machine so it isn’t a terrible situation yet.

From what I’ve seen it’s playable on the Steam Deck too, depending on your tolerance for poor framerates and graphical fidelity.

I would guess the Steam Deck itself will be a huge driver of minimum specs performance.

Sure, if it actually sells in volume. Remains to be seen.

You know what, things changed when I switched from my 24" monitor to my new 27" monitor.

Pixel wise, that was

1920x1200 = 2.304.000 pixels
2560x1440 = 3.686.400 pixels

a 60% increase. So games were suddenly 60% harder to move (at the same framerate). The overhead I felt I had suddenly disappeared. It drastically affected the lifetime of my gtx 1080. Even playing games like FAR Changing Tides the gpu goes to 100% usage and even then there are clear dips below 60fps.

In other words, I will have to bite the bullet and buy a new gpu. I will hold until Fall, when I think the RTX 4080 should be ready.

Yes you will, but with a 1080 you’ve got some time before it really starts to hurt at 1440p.

RTX 4080 should be ready.

Heh. Good luck getting one ;)

Who knew neon came from Ukraine?

What should I be doing, sales-wise, with an Alienware Aurora R6 with a 1080 and an older Asus with a 960? Part them out for the GPUs, sell the Alienware as a unit?

Could this be Putin’s plan all along?

Curse those neon-conservatives.

We don’t have a PSU thread. Thought this new connector was wacky.

Isn’t $2 gas really cheap? I live in NYC and don’t own a car, but I remember it being way over that a long time ago. And two bucks Canadian is even less.

That’s what I was wondering. $2 Canadian is super cheap. Hard to believe, even.

OOOOH. Is that $2/liter? Metric system!

That’d be over $7/gallon. That definitely makes more sense.

2CAD/L?
So after currency ~6USD/gallon

Isn’t that the same price as a liter of cola?

Ahhhh OK, of course, my US-centricism strikes again.

Not here in Texas, at least. You can get a 2L of Coke for around $1.50.

Yeah, if you can afford it…

But hey, if you have the money to burn and desperately need a solid upgrade.
