Well, Gaming is less than half of NVidia’s GPU revenue - and it has the tightest margins of the three segments by far so it might be less than a quarter of the profit. I imagine there’s a lot of pressure inside NVidia to increase margins in the gaming segment.
What are you gonna do with all that waste heat??
But seriously, these power requirements are bananas. Also the expense: I got an email from Newegg today featuring a deal on a Corsair 1000W 80+ Platinum PSU whose full price was upwards of 250 bucks (!). Now they had a 40 dollar discount with promo code and apparently it had a manufacturer’s rebate of 30, but damn.
Next step is AIO coolers for your PSU
3090Ti embargoed video reviews are out: expensive, power hungry, fat but cool, ~10% faster

MSFS looks like the poster child!

6.4 fps more vs my 3080ti. I am feeling the need to upgrade. ;)
Also $2200 , LOLOLOL.

jfc 40% uplift in MSFS is kinda absurd

This is crazy:
Particularly as the next generation are rumoured to be even worse. The environmental waste of high-end gaming is getting to be as absurd as Ethereum mining, given how much power you are pushing for a handful of frames so that you can enable visual options where you’d barely be able to tell the difference between them.
Obvious solution to all this is to return to retro graphics. :)
MS Flight Sim 1.0 , I mean I can barely tell the difference.

At the settings I’d have to run at to make the latest FS playable… I agree.

Does this mean you need triple 3090 Ti for triple monitor?
Although that’s true, most people run 1060s or whatever.
I’m thinking that if I buy a 4080 later, it will be even more expensive buy than I thought, because surely I will need to add a new PSU…

I mean, you are comparing reference boards to a high-end AIB model that draws more power than the base spec.

3090 non-reference boards can be crazy too :) I used to think gpu designs had a ceiling on power draw, but nvidia is sure proving me wrong!

Hopefully AMD and/or Intel can provide decent mid-tier competition at a power draw that doesn’t force people to also buy a new PSU. Enthusiasts are going to do whatever it takes to run the best card but I’d hate for the normal market to get sucked along with them. My office already gets heated enough by my 980ti during gaming.
Less impressive numbers here for MSFS. Don’t want to be the spreader of misinfo!
More in line with the 10-15% fps increase seen in other titles, but the 3090 numbers were also different. Looked like the same settings, so dunno. Sorry Denny!

Not sure anyone is going to care much until we see actual comparisons to red team/green team cards at matching price points. I tried skipping around in the video above and all I could determine was ‘Arc is better than Iris was and we have XeSS now’.
I truly hope it is competitive - and if they can’t match in performance, they have a wide field to compete in price. Someone mentioned “budget enthusiast cards” being $600 as the new norm, and I’m not sure that will be an acceptable price with ‘budget’ in the same sentence.

Later releases may be more interesting, these two GPUs they’re looking at like GTA5 at 1080p medium settings.
