Why would Christians want Of Mice and Men banned?

Same goes for To Kill a Mockingbird?

Those wacky Christians. Who knows what they’ll burn next?

Of Mice & Men features some swearing, which I imagine is the problem there. To Kill A Mockingbird’s liberal use of ‘nigger’ makes it controversial with even non-christian fundamentalist idiots.

School Cancels Play Because Of ‘N-Word’ In Dialogue

Before the play was canceled, the drama teacher asked Gwendolyn Wiggins, president of the local chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, what she thought of using the word in the play. Wiggins said she didn’t want students to hear it.

Wiggins said she supports the story’s message, but she doesn’t like the way it is delivered, particularly when it is delivered to high school students.

Oh those wacky colored people!

They live in Georgia. Says enough for me.

Georgia, which is 30% black. where are you from again? do they have black people there?

maybe you’re from vermont, where the 0.5% black population has less friction with the white majority than in georgia?

edit: demographics lifted from http://georgia.usl.myareaguide.com/census.html

Hmm, have they heard of Tom Sawyer or Huck Finn yet?

i’d say it’s a different issue when performed live, as opposed to in the confines of a discussion-heavy english class. for instance, there might not be another play for any objectors to participate.

won’t anybody think of the politically minded black high school thespians?

on the other hand, i know better than to defend censorship - it’s impossible to draw a line in the sand when it comes to what is and is not acceptable for public consumption.

C’mon, we all know the best way to deal with prejudice is to pretend it doesn’t exist, and whitewash history of any evidence of it.

Everyone knows you don’t learn from history, it’s not like it repeats itself.

Our kids are safer today because they can’t watch Song of the South.

{Edit: typo fix}

No they aren’t, because they can watch The Black Cauldron.

My Native American peoples are too busy drinking or cashing in on your gambling addiction to care if they’re called “Injuns.”

No they aren’t, because they can watch The Black Cauldron.

No. That sounds like witchcraft! They’ll have none of the devil’s work like that!
