She should know, she has seen plenty of mayhem up close in her life.
Good. If he’s innocent he’s got nothing to worry about. Sweden has much more fair courts than the U.S.
To think I would have been outraged at one point, but now I relate more to his victims than him.

“He’d only be jailed 5 years”, “he’s not being charged with publishing stuff, only helping someone hack a server, this has absolutely nothing to do with press freedom”, etc…

Hey, that’s why he gets a trial.

So how does this work? I thought our extradition treaty with Britain didn’t allow us to bring new charges after extradition? Has he not been extradited yet, or did we inform the Brits previously?

He’s in jail in the UK right now for skipping bail.
Doesn’t Sweden want him too?
Not very enthusiastically at the moment. Their prosecutor’s office is considering dropping the sexual assault charges.
I think you can’t add new charges after they agree to extradite. But as they haven’t extradited him yet, they’re getting in the charges now.

Gotcha. For some reason I had thought the extradition had already happened. That makes more sense.
Just as a point of information, the US charged a Brit with cyber-crimes (hacking DoD servers and bringing down a couple email servers) waaaaaaay back in 2003. He’s still in the UK and there isn’t much chance he’ll ever be handed over the US authorities.
Assange is a different case (he’s not British, to start with), but the same people defending the hacker in the UK will be defending him.
Laurie Love? He turned out to be an utter shit too

It looks like the charges against Assange are not focused on his release of information, but are instead focused on his conspiring to hack government data. The only portion focused on actual publication of information seems to be related to some specific pieces of information whose release endagered other people directly.
