I like widgets on my phone and tablet. Glancable, interactive, little windows are useful there. On desktop, I have no use for them. YMMV obviously.

This Start Menu thing? What’s wrong with it?

Is there a calendar widget that works on Windows and Android? Something that sticks to the desktop is preferred so I remember to look at it.

I was referring to the new taskbar addition from the latest major update:

The news is generally trash and there’s no obvious way to completely kill off that portion.

I instantly turned off the whole thing, same as with all the other bizarre shit MS has tried to cram into my taskbar over the years. Remember “people circles”? Fuck’s sake.

I like this. I can tell it’s raining without relying on my windows.

Is this some sort of zen koan?

That’s great. I have two windows in my home office but I can never trust them not to do updates and restart at the most inconvenient times.

Not sure widgets are going to do it for me. I keep my desktop empty and my taskbar hidden, both home and work. If you look at my displays, all you see is nature scenes, and I’m not covering them with anything other than open programs.

And yeah, I also turn off that extra crap on the taskbar. That’s just a launcher for apps and a notifier for what’s running.

Pricing for Windows 365. Remember, this is a business/enterprise solution, with likely discounts for volume customers.

Previously reported problem still unpatched.

Is there an easy way to tell how much space each of the folders on my computer is taking on Windows 10? I know I can right-click on a folder and choose “Properties” but I’m hoping for something that can do it all at once.

I just noticed my laptop SSD is almost full and I have no idea where all the space is going.

WizTree is much, much faster. Someone pointed it out a little while back here and I switched.

I just went to install it and found I already had it! Wow, that is much faster.

Thanks @stusser and @arrendek you probably saved me an hour of poking around using the properties menu items.

Jesus, I learned that Plex was using 45 GB on the localapp directory

a bit of poking and i deleted all the thumbnails, down to 7.5 GB

disable and delete the thumbnails

I don’t like the gaudy color scheme in WizTree and much prefer the plain color Space Sniffer. It’s not as fast as WizTree but it served me well for many years.

Maybe the dark theme is better.

WizTree 3.36 (16 February 2021)

  • support for Windows 10 “dark mode”. Theme can be changed via Options->Colors->UI Theme

Mine occupied 2TB until I disabled the video thumbnail previews.
