Windows 7, Multicore and Power

I went to a little media session hosted by Intel and Microsoft, where they talked about how Windows 7 is more power efficient and uses multicore processors better.

Interesting stuff, really. I am curious, though, as to whether Intel let Microsoft peek under the hood of Nehalem’s power management unit – a sort of microprocessor inside the CPU.

Cool stuff, I find it amazing how far we have come with power usage on CPU’s. What’s more amazing is the savings this could mean for server CPU’s in the datacenter. Less power, less cooling, tons of savings. Both Intel and AMD have made a lot of nice changes over the last few chip generations.
