I never tried to play the first with a controller so I’m surprised it didn’t work. As you say, it’s a very low-button system, so it should be easy to make it work on a controller.
That said, I’d bet real money they’ll redo the combat entirely to make it more like 2 and (especially) 3, regardless of my opinion on the subject.
Yeah, that would be my assumption. And if so I will just stick with my original Witcher, flaws and all.
The first Witcher is the only one I never completed, I just couldn’t push myself through. Maybe whatever updates are going into this remake/remaster/whatever will finally get me over the hump.
On one hand it’s an old game that would run on PS4 era hardware, on the other it’s like 2022 man.
One of the DF people was saying the new Plague Tale looked like a remastered Witcher 2.

Will there still be collectible milk maid cards?
I see it’s being done by the people who did Seven. Isometric camera confirmed!
I loved the first Witcher, but only after installing the mod that let you teleport back and forth from the swamp. It was just too grindy without it.
I hope the remake includes QOL changes. The story is great, but some of the gameplay needs streamlining.
Also I hope they make Geralt look more like the badass monster killer he is, rather than the aging hippie look he had in the first game.

Designing better combat than the Witcher 1 would not be a challenging task. I wasn’t a fan.
It wasn’t my favorite system by any means, but I consider what they came up with in the later games nearly unplayable so I don’t see them as the people to do a better one.
The real question is whether the fanbase will lose their shit when they aren’t included.
Nah, that’s an easy one. If the cards are included, a certain contingent of players will lose their shit. If they aren’t included, a certain other contingent will lose their shit. Shit will be lost, is what I’m saying.
They will be included but feature more genders and species.
Hahaha. Perfect. Maybe Geralt can sleep with that swamp plants and collect their cards too.
Truth.
I never understood the upset about the cards. I don’t see how they’re worse than awkward polygonal sex scenes ala Bioware. I’m hard pressed to think of any RPG that’s handled sex well.
I thought the second Witcher game – and even the third a decent amount of the time, or at least in the main story relations – did a pretty good job handling sex. Maybe not great, but better than Bioware, I think.
How did they handle it? I never could get past the combat system.
Geralt and Marigold have “swimming pool” sex after Geralt fights the other witcher guy. It’s more tame than Show Girls.
The problem with those cards is that they were cards and for some people that meant they were like collectible “gotta catch them all” and that’s problematic
Of course, in reality they were meant just as artworks in place of difficult to create cutscenes…and they were quite nice erotic artworks, artistically.
I doubt CDP/FT will include them, and I also doubt they are going to animate 20 (or however many there were) unique sex scenes, so this aspect will very likely be someone stripped down.
Personally I don’t mind, I didn’t play Geralt as a whore who sleeps with everyone :)
