Not a fan of the new haircut, but I can deal.

While I haven’t been “burned” by the many releases of the Witcher, I may wait to pick up the sequel until after they’ve released a few patches.

While I’ll admit I’m kind of being a dick here, objecting to the presence of a particular icon is at least a coherent position, if once I don’t find myself particularly concerned about. Complaining that the combat requires a quick reaction is asinine, because that’s what most of the combat in the game consists of – reacting to icons (or combat animations on hard mode).

What I suspect is actually going on is that people are reacting negatively in a knee jerk fashion to the presence of formal quick time events, no matter what their relation to the game or its combat. Which is fine, but don’t try to couch it in some sort of technical reasoning about when you’re expected to react to on-screen stimuli. Just say “I hate QTEs!” and be done with it (which, in fairness, a few people did).

I hate QTEs!

Exactly. You’re the one that brought up the technical similarities.

We will now grapple with each other until I am told to click the right mouse button, at which point I will decapitate you.

I hate QTEs!

I’m ambivalent in this case. A few QTEs in the boss fights wouldn’t bother me.

I’m ambivalent on QTEs. I do however have a strong dislike for boss flights.

Boss flights?

You saw the dragon didn’t you?

I dread the game that faithfully reproduces the effect of sitting next to your boss on a nine-hour flight to Europe.

Right click now to make your boss think you’ve dozed off!

It’s a QTE, unfortunately.

I’m thinking about picking up The Witcher and forgotten about all the different versions of it. Looking at Gogamer is the international enhanced version of the Witcher the best one to pick up to get all the bonus stuff?

If by “bonus” you mean “boobies,” then yeah I think so.

edit: Wait, no… North American version of that enhanced edition doesn’t have boobies. You may want to get the download-only Director’s Cut edition for the U.S. That will have boobies, if those are important to you. Boobies are important to me.

Yeah that one is the best. After installation apply 1.5 and you are good to go.

I don’t think it matters what you buy since all versions can be patched up to Enhanced Edition plus boobies.

If you buy digitally, you’ll be buying the Enhanced Edition Director’s Cut, which has all the same content as the international edition. Otherwise you’d want an international version of the Enhanced Edition.

So is the EE patched the same all around now or does the I version still have a few differences?

I honestly don’t know what all of the worry about versions is… I bought The Witcher when I heard about it here, about a month or so after it’s release. When a new version was released…I just went to their site and downloaded it for free.

The Witcher may have end up releasing a few times, but every single time they did, I downloaded the new version for free. How that engenders so much complaining, I don’t know.

The easiest way, though, is to just buy the Enhanced Edition (if you’re outside of North America or have to buy retail in NA) or Enhanced Edition Director’s Cut if you’re buying digitally in North America. No matter which version you get, though, all of the updates are free.
