Capped bandwidth… and no more McDonalds? Time to ditch Iceland, buddy.

My thoughts exactly. What do they have there, Blue ray movies? I’ll play Torchlight until next month.

Installed retail EE on my drive is 9.68GB, the rest should be bonuses I guess.

Hmmm. It didn’t work after I bought it off steam and installed it on my vista 64 system.
Figured out how to get it running though by setting the video mode to 640x480 and running the executable from windows explorer instead of attempting to launch it through steam (which still doesnt work)

So far I’m enjoying the game, but I just reached the boss of act 1 and it is kicking my ass. I’m playing on hard and before the fight I use the spectral coat and blizzard and I can’t seem to beat him. I just read through some of the earlier posts and I have one question.

spoiler:

Do you need to have any specific talents on AARD to have it knock down the beast or is there always a chance that you can knock it down?

Finally playing this and enjoying it very much. One question, with all the ingredients gathering, inventory is pretty limited. Is it ok to leave stuff in cupboards or will it all go away? also, do i need all those scrolls and books which Iv’e already read. I’m always afraid that of I through something, I’ll need it later.

Oh, and about the dialogs. The VO is not very good but I suppose that’s a budget issue. The implementation is jarring. Dear CDProject developers, when initiating a conversation with an NPC it perfectly makes sense for him to start with ‘yes’ or ‘what’. I then ask my question and the NPC answers. There is absolutely no need for the NPC to repeat the opening phrase. He can just wait for me to clic kthe next question. In my mind that ‘what’ was always connected with the last answer:
Geralt: Where can I find the reverend?
Old beggar: He is in the village to the north, what?
This makes it seems like the NPC is either not really sure of his answer or just confused.

Are you playing the Enhanced Edition? They revamped a ton of dialogue and voice-ver work in the english version.

I don’t know, I bought it from Steam last week. I assumed it was all patched with the latest enhancements and cuts.
Anyway I’m not complaining. It doesn’t stop me from enjoying the game, but the dialog quirk was amusing so I commented about it. I’m more interested in advice on how to manage my inventory.

Sounds like it should be up to date then. The original version had some pretty funny (for all the wrong reasons) dialogue and voice overs. Alot of it still made sense, if barely.

The Enhanced Edition improved inventory management a lot. I never had issues once the EE was released. Also, be sure to visit a bartender and store stuff in his “bank”.

I think you do need one of the Aard talents to enable knockdown.

I’m playing through The Witcher for the first time, and killed the Beast a couple days ago. I had a fair bit of trouble with the it as well. I wish I could offer advice, but I’m not certain what I did differently on the time that I managed to kill it; I pretty much just fired off a quick Aard (no charging) whenever I could, and stuck to the group style the rest of the time.

After posting that I tried again using heavy style and it went down in 4 hits. I just finished chapter 2 and I’m enjoying the game. I’m focusing on using infrit and going heavy on potions and outside of a few group fights I’ve been doing alright. I was hurting for cash but I’m now just under 5000 and I want to buy that new armor I see available.

From what I can see, if you go with using signs, it makes bombs useless at least for my strategy, are bombs useful at all?

I had never used bombs, but they might be strategically useful.

For more storage space go to an inn and talk to the bartender to see your storage space. I always stored extra herbs in there.

Voice over problems are rectified simply by switching over to Polish dialogue. It sounds better, more natural, but then you will have to read.

For someone who isn’t going to pick up DA for a while, is …hang on, it still costs $40?!

You missed the Steam deal which was I think last week or two weeks ago.

Is it worth $40? Yes.

No mind… by the looks of it my Dual 1.6 with a x1600 laptop wouldn’t run it well anyway :(

Time for a new PC… soon, yes, very soon!

You’re correct, it would run like ass.

I think I used a stun bomb like once or twice on hard. Poison was more than enough I thought. Hope they improve on the difficulty in the second one.

Stun bombs are really useful.

Spoiler for people who are not done with the 1st chapter:

I stashed my stuff with the inn kipper, and now he went and got himself killed. Where do I get my stuff back?
