Is it okay if I ask here what ending commentary since the game is so old?
The one made by the very tall guy? Because I just completed the game last night as well, and REALLY thought he was overdoing it…in the great way, but man, what a bummer!

It’s surprising how rough this game feels at times, from some of the less than excellent VO for the generic characters, the journal entries which don’t match events, to the way you loot houses in front of people yet find yourself wondering why you’re bothering in the first place as loot is flint and sandwiches.
Great atmosphere and sense of place though, and I love the little “my actions caused this” cutscenes. I even like the sex cards, handles sex well and it becomes part of the game world. In many instances sex is not special, it simply is. Like violence.

I assume he meant this commentary at the end? (spoiler for ending obviously!)
MORE TERRIBLE SPOILERS FOLLOW
I sided with the non-humans, but the ending had a similar vibe. A lot of death and suffering leading to pretty much the status quo being restored.
Added to that, the witch from chapter 1 came back to haunt me. And of course the realization that Murky Waters was pretty much doomed. I wonder if that could have been prevented…
I think they really nailed it. Great ending to a great game. Man, there was a lot of fighting toward the end, though.
This is what I’m doing, and also using the
“Stuff that makes Geralt’s life easier” mod, it’s my fourth attempt to get beyond chapter 2 and enjoying it the most from any previous playthrough now.
Wow that seems like a great mod. Shame it is not compatible with scabbard one, that one rocks too.

Thanks for that link! Been working on Witcher and this will be very helpful.

Still battling through this, what surprises me is just how rough this game is for something so well loved. I’m loving the world and the characterisation, but by God does this game feel rough around the edges.
I still feel Act I was the high point (currently in Act III), it was reasonably tight and focused and I could keep everything straight. After that it started to sprawl a little and with the time between certain events the game just assumes I’ve kept everything in my head, but sometimes I wish I could reach for the journal during dialogue. At other times I think the game is making leaps of logic or offering dialogue that simply don’t gel with what you’ve seen and heard thus far. It can get a little frustrating.
I think that’s a pretty reasonable take :)

Moving my line of questing to the correct thread…
is the Witcher Enhanced Edition worth playing over the original? And is there a difference between Witcher EE and Witcher EE Platinum?
I’m probably going to order a DVD-ROM of this (8 gigs=way too long to download at 700 kbs), and these seem to be the 3 available versions.

If you have any edition you’ve got EE, basically, it comes via large, large, large patch. I’m not sure if Platinum itself is even separate now, the Witcher team has been great to the community in giving tons and tons of updated content out to make up for a rough launch.

So the difference is how large a patch I feel like downloading?
Regular edition=1.4 patch + 1.5 patch
Enhanced Edition=1.5 patch
EE Platinum=no downloading?

There is also a EE Director’s Cut that came out later for people in the US. It uncensors the game.

If you’ve got slow or capped broadband, I don’t mind burning all the patches to a DVD and snail mailing it over if you want to PM me an address. It’d take me all of 4 minutes. Between the earlier patches, the big upgrade patch and the extra content ( a couple of bonus quests) there’s about 2.75GB of data.

There should be no reason to buy anything other than the DIrector’s Cut edition, really.
Thats OK. A gig or two can be done overnight just fine.
I just ordered the EE edition as it seems the boxed content is nicer.
I tried Witcher a few times but tended to loose interest pretty quickly in Chapter One. So, this weekend I pushed through and it’s got its claws in me now. Combat actually gets pretty fun once you level up some powers.
However, I’m a bit concerned about leveling. There’s a lot of bits and bobbles to level up, and I already feel like I might be nerfing my dude by tossing some points here and there. Is the game generous enough with experience that I don’t need to worry, or is there some leveling strategy I should be following?

I don’t think combat is tough enough that you need to worry about this too much (speaks a man in act 3). I focused on levelling the primary stats first since they seemed to have the widest benefit, and then I went after a few core powers.

No need to worry, just have fun doing what you do.

Finally got through Act 2 last night after several years and restarts. Once you get over the hump, it’s really really cool how everything fits together in that act. Just really daunting at first.
I wouldn’t worry too much about how to level Geralt, either. I will point out that there are only five spells, and being a “pure mage” probably isn’t an option. That’s just not what a witcher is.
