Yup. For Quordle/Octordle I have a set of 3 openers and a set of 4 openers. The 4 word set pretty much guarantees a win, but it also guarantees I can’t do better than par. The 3 word set is a gamble, but if things go well it allows for better scores. I always go back and forth about which is better.
For example, here’s today’s Octordle with my 4-start. Didn’t miss one, but 12 is the best possible score.

Maybe the first time I’ve ever gotten a 2 on Quordle, rather than just laying out my starter words. It worked out about like I’d expect - in the final analysis it’s always better to get out letters than make guesses on the first few rows.
