Think Uruguay are just too efficient in front of goal for the US to beat them. Even against England the US coughed up a fair number of chances.

Quick question:
How are you all feeling about the vuvuzelas?
Do you still notice them while watching games, are they still bad?
It seemed a lot quieter in the stadium for the Spain vs Portugal game. There were the occasional blasts but not like the previous games I’ve been to.
What was happening is ‘co-ordinated blowing’ where they would get blown at the same time with slightly quicker intervals between blasts. This would eventually collapse in on itself and then ‘silence’.

They’re incredibly loud and annoying.

I noticed in the England-Germany game that, for once, you could actually hear the fans.

They’re more rhythmic now, and the TV companies have worked out a way to lessen their impact AFAIK. However I think there’s fewer of them too as we finally started to hear drums + singing in the latter part of the group stage.
I’m surprised nobody linked to the pictures of the nudity shoot she did yet.
Depending on the type of linking, that’s a paddlin’.

So far, this thread has caused me to visit the websites of The Sun AND The Daily Mail.
I blame all of you.

I wasn’t suggesting Uruguay was a pushover or that the US would get by them. (Hell, I barely know anything about the sport.) But given the choice, I think you’d probably rather play them than Brazil / Germany / Argentina / Spain.
Oh please, the US first team hasn’t been “fucked up” by a Latin style team except Brazil, in ages. We know how to play them and do quite well. Lose in a close game, maybe, but “fucked up”, not a chance.
You footie-heads remember this awesome Adidas commercial from the 2006 Cup:
Watch again…and notice at the end that it’s poor Lampard scoring an apparent goal on a German keeper (Kahn) and having it disallowed. Hilarious.
Aftermath of the defeat: French parliament holds secret hearings to question team officials. Some people are taking their football just a bit too seriously…

Further to our earlier discussion of World Cup refereeing shockers, a rather nifty Guardian article on the subject.

Damn, Brazil’s goal was a fantastic play. Superb pass that sliced through the defense.
And as per usual not a defender in sight with goals like this. That wasn’t just a hole, it was a four lane highway flanked by orange lights. ;_;

Oh Christ, now they’re too stupid to perform a corner kick.
