On that occasion, it certainly did look like he was cheating.

This whole “everybody does it” argument. Is it trotted out when it comes to doping, I wonder?

So Tim’s argument is that if you break the rules then you’re cheating? So by that definition, every hockey player who has ever gotten a penalty (rules violation) is also a cheater? If you go to the penalty box for hooking someone else you’re a cheater? I’ve heard guys who go to the penalty box a lot called a lot of things but I’ve never heard them called cheaters.

Doping, blood capsules, bribery - all these things are “outside of the game”. It’s an entirely different event that doesn’t occur within the framework of the match. They are attempts to hoodwink the authorities, to circumvent the laws of the game rather than commit a foul as defined by the lawbook.

For what it’s worth, I’m with Tim, robsam, JM, Gary Whitta, hong, Mysterio, and Suarez.

5 years ago everybody would have questioned your football know-how. Now you’re right. ;)

Germany is the clear underdog today. Our team had no chance in the test game a couple of months ago. I’m looking forward to an exciting game though. ARG - GER always means a lot of tension on and off the pitch. Both teams will come out with the knife between their teeth.

I hope GER advances. Then it’s payback time for ESP, and NL will finally get a chance to renew the decades old football friendship between our countries. g

How is everyone that’s arguing that Suarez is an “evil cheat” ignoring this?

The Ghana player cheated (if we’re going to use that definition for what Suarez did), and instead of getting penalized for it, got rewarded with a free kick just outside the box with mere seconds remaining in the game. This was a conscious decision to flop, wheras Suarez may have been going on instinct in the heat of the moment without time to really consider the implications.

Ghana cheats, gets rewarded. Uruguay cheats, gets properly penalized. That Ghana didn’t take advantage of the situation is hardly Uruguay’s or Suarez’s fault.

Plus Pantsil deliberately fouled a Uruguayan in the box to stop a goalscoring opportunity, but wasn’t spotted.

This, my friends, is football.

Damn, Germany. Damn. Don’t waste any time there.

They sure look to be in control right now. 5 min in and no diving by either side, though Germany had the chance to try and sell a couple of fouls. That’s great to see!

ahahahahaha!!!

whistling happily

That German goal was great, especially as the kick was set up by what looked like a fairly cynical Argentine tackle. The Germans look completely fearless, and I’m not sure the Argentine flair for simulation will save them.

The Germans are just slicing through Argentina’s defense. Podolski is just owning his defender.

Who could have predicted such a thing?? Oh, wait.

They should try to play Flight of the Valkries on the vuvuzelas when Germany is attacking, that would be awesome.

Klose should have had that.

AGGGHHHH!! Klose, you have to make that!

Was that a triple lutz by one of the Argentine players?

Triple toe loop. Duh. Argentina is looking more composed now.

Harsh card on Mueller.

Edit: phewww, offside.

I overslept. :( Who scored the goal?

Mueller.

Argentina is looking way better atm.
