It kills my World Cup pool, but so happy that Spain’s brand of football is out of the tournament.
I can’t cheer for any team that makes Putin, the most dangerous man to the western world, happy.
Now please, can a new team win it? Too bad the African teams are out, but i’d be perfectly happy with Croatia winning it all.

Their brand of football brought them to the penalties in the first place, so I think it’s fitting that Spain gets bounced. I will not miss watching them.
I hear ya, but he won’t be happy for too long. They’re going to run up against teams that actually try to score pretty soon, unlike Spain today.
They kept the ball at the expense of attempting to score. Took no chances, which meant that had a ton of possession, but zero offense. Also, it’s like watching paint dry as a spectator.

The brand of football where you make almost a thousand short passes every game, forcing your opponent to endlessly shuttle side to side in defence without fucking up their positioning and cover assignments for 90 (or in this case 120) minutes.
Just that dull, almost cynical possession game. There’s just no urgency to attack, or do anything that is enjoyable or exciting on the pitch. It’s an incredibly over-cautious way to play that I hate.
As I tried to teach managers over and over again in a previous career: take smart risks to manage for outcomes that lead to wins. Managing outcomes to avoid failure means you eventually will do just that.

I’d be happier with Belgium winning it. We’ve never gone higher than 4th place (and never got that close again). And that was back in 1986, 32 years ago. Have a heart for our small nation…
