His stressors at that time may not be what you’re thinking, either. While we’re all experiencing a thrilling match, it’s also possible Wahl is thinking “This is an extra 60-90 minutes I’m here, and I need to file, and I need to do this podcast update, and I’ve got this zoom I have to do, and I want to check in back home with my wife and is the little cafeteria I was planning to hit even still going to be open that late…” etc. etc.
And those stressors are just inciting incidents, but the real underlying issue is something else. Maybe something congenital, maybe something that had built up over time and never been detected or treated. Daryl Kile pitched 7 innings of major league baseball one night in June of 2002. Three days later he died in his sleep in a hotel bedroom, and was found in an autopsy to have had nearly a 90% arterial blockage into his heart.
Sadly, and yes it is scary as shit, sometimes stuff like this happens.
Open your porch doors before penalties.
Fox just aired a graphic that said that Portugal’s 6-1 win over Switzerland was the largest in an elimination game since 1954.
Ummmmmmmm… 2014 wasn’t that long ago, folks.
Maybe it was specific to Portugal? Or specific to Switzerland?

I haven’t seen any games, but every thing I have read has said their coverage is shockingly bad. Worse than the usual “Americans don’t understand soccer so we’ll constantly compare it other sports” that the WC always gets.
Wow, nice powerful header. Well timed.
Woah. Portugal off the cross-bar.
He’s going to regret mistiming that kick, the Moroccan player. (They’re still ahead 1-0 heading into half-time though).
Almost everything I’ve watched has been on Fox and it has been poor, but outside of Alexi Lalas I haven’t found it embarrassing.
Most of the commentary pairings seem to have one good person and one I’d happily ignore. Not just Americans on that front either - I liked Jacqui Oatley’s commentary, but former England international Warren Barton was not great.
It feels like there are problems in production though - a number of times the commentators have read out the wrong information (like Spain would be knocked out if Germany win). You have to imagine if they’re reading that stuff live it’s the behind the scenes crew letting them down.
I’m frequently working while watching these games though, so it’s possible I missing the worst parts.
Portugal’s first half performance of cynical fouling and simulated injury has me full-on supporting Morocco and hoping for a complete humiliation.
I know this can get belabored and even exaggerated by detractors, especially those of us in the US, but this kind of shithousery is so frustrating and makes the games nigh unwatchable.
Like last night, annoys me mightily.
Just tuned into the match. Morocco might win this…?
At the start of the 2nd half.
Commentator: And Christiano Ronaldo is BACK.
(long pause)
Commentator: On his seat on the bench.
Nicely done.
Oh hey, he’s in the match now.
Yeah he’s been awful, bloke down the pub bad
My prediction: they will get a penalty somehow, and Ronaldo will bury it.
Morocco really need to score another goal.
Agree 100%, would love to see them go out here in a humiliating fashion
It’s why I watch so little football now, despite its National Game status. This is the first full Portugal game I’ve watched this World Cup, and now I hate them.
Was he the one always paired with Jacqui? That guy was soooooo bad. Bloke down the pub is a great way to describe him.
