Yeah, first premium, then xp transfer. Training a crew is nice but if it’s a tank you play a lot anyhow, getting them from the 80 percent level on up isn’t too bad anyway. It’s the XP grind to the higher tier vehicles that is teh suck.

I tend to drop 200 gold on a gunner for most tanks, especially if you start getting a pile of gold.

I can see that might make sense. Hell, a loader might be good too, given that rate of fire seems to be the biggest determinant of success sometimes.

Train up your commander first, he’ll add 10 skill points to every additional crewmember.

If I have the gold free, I’ll buy (in order) gunner, loader, driver, and maybe commander. I generally don’t feel radio operator is worth more than the 20k cash training. Sometimes not the commander either, really. With the 20k cash and a few games he’s giving 8 points to your crew already. Not really sure if the gold is worth giving two more :) If I REALLY want to have the whole crew starting on a secondary skill immediately I’ll buy all gold crew.

Actually the new patch turned out pretty nice didn’t it? Dig the sounds, the matchmaking isn’t perfect but it’s tons better…the new maps I’ve still strangely only seen one of.

I am having trouble making credits…did they raise ammo costs again and not mention it maybe? Can’t figure this one out.

the new city map is the best city map in the game. the new desert canyon map is terrible, and may as well be called malinkova 2. It effectively has two flank sides but they are even more suicidal as you have a heavy incline to climb as you approach the enemy side.

It’s totally weird, I’ve played the new ruins map like 20 times by now and have never seen the canyon map. Not once.

The El Halufa or whatever the canyon map is is horrid, precisely because as Nathan Phoenix notes it’s suicidal to advance into the valley. With the flags on opposite bluffs, it becomes a test of patience like Campinovka, and the first to venture into the valley gets riddled with shells. Ugh.

You can’t even try to rush like on malinkova because once you pass midway you lose the initiative due to the loss of speed.

Yeah I finally saw it. The other team could apparently see all of us across the map without either side advancing, so it was pretty weak.

Guess im one of the few that likes Campinovka since it’s not who rushes who first.

Actually I have found more success on that map when there is a concerted initial advance.

The problem with some of the maps in WoT is that they’re really binary. Either you have to camp or you have to rush; there aren’t many options. Campinovka rewards one of two approaches–the patient camping approach, which relies on the other guy losing patience, or the well-coordinated rush, which relies on teamwork. Usually you start with a flanking force going over the hill while the defense stays put, but it’s rare that the flankers are strong or fast enough and the defense patient enough to make that approach work. In El Haluffa or whatever it is, I’m not sure there is even one good strategy.

Yeah, I have no idea what to do there other than camping.

And yes, Ruinberg is IMO the best city map, very open, rewards flanking and mobility rather than camping.

WTF with them releasing one great map together with a stinker every patch (Cliff vs Komarin, Ruinberg vs El Haluffa). It looks like they have two teams working on maps at the same time and they need to fire one of them.

I finished leveling up my KV and it’s probably one of my most favorite tanks now. It’s awesome in mid-tier fights and useful in high tier ones (with the 107 mm) and it’s speedy enough. OTOH, KV-3 is just painful. I have the same gun on it, upgraded chassis and engine and it still feels like a sluggish underpowered turd. I guess it’s the price you pay to get the IS.

I am facing a dilemma now. Both my Ferdi and KV-3 are pretty close to elite and I don’t have enough money for both the IS and Jagdtiger. And I don’t want to sell my awesome moneymaker Ferdi. Should I wait and eventually get the Jagdtiger or should I just buy the IS, which costs like half of the Jagdtiger plus all the mandatory money sinks (crew, upgrades, etc.)? Decisions, decisions…

Has anyone tried the Jagdtiger? I’ve seen it plenty of times in action and it seems powerful but I would be interested in first hand impressions. How is it with the money?

The IS is good, especially after the KV-3, but it’s a long grind to the IS-3; I’m still like 60k from that on my IS. The JT seems awesome, but the Ferdi is as you say a money maker. Given that there will probably be a soft wipe in the future anyhow, I think I’d shoot for the JT and sell the KV-3 when you need to. But it’s a beta, does it really matter much? :)

So true that I can’t begin to express my agreement.

Those are pretty much the only options, yep.

Incredibly rarely do I see a team form a plan…at all. 99.9% of my matches are people start moving around like lemmings.

Or enough guys hang back on defense, that’s usually what I see.

Worst map design of all time.

Does anyone use premium ammo? I tried it once on my IS, and it was very effective, and got me yelled at by my victims, but it seems pretty expensive for non-clan matches.

The KV3 was painful at first, but I loved it once I got the 122mm. Then you can play the cover game and pop out for a powerful strike. You’ll hit tier 8’s for 20-30% hp on side armor strikes, or good frontal hull penetrations.

@Wombat - I generally load one premium shell on most of my tanks, just in case. The vehicle I’ve actually used it on most is my SU-14 though. It doesn’t increase penetration or damage, but rather splash radius. If I see a bunch of tanks all clumped up it’s not unreasonable to damage five or six with one well placed gold ammo shot.

i <3 my kv3, it was good with the 107mm, but with the 122 its really shiny. slow as shit on a cold day indeed. hard as hell as well. cant wait to get my IS tho, wich is about as hard, has the 122 and even gets an improved 122, and is quite a bunch more mobile than the kv3.

now the american t20 thats a whole other story. my first ten battles with it were horrible losses. its paper thin, feels even more vulnerable than the m4e8 which is bullshit of course. im sticking with it until i get the turret that can mount the 90mm though. perhaps its gonna pwn the everlovin shit out of everything with that. or maybe ill have learned how to properly drive it by then.
