If anyone was hoarding gold in anticipation of the soft wipe, you can stop now. If the WoT forum mods are to be believed, the soft wipe has been cancelled because the game is close to release.

I had hoped to use the wipe to jump up to a KT, or maybe a T29. Looks like that won’t happen. With my current free xp, I can just about afford a regular Tiger. But is it worth bothering ? Tigers have never felt like a very big threat when I’ve played against them. Going just by the stats, it seems like it is pretty much a downgrade from the VK3601, with the exception of a better gun (which requires a massive xp investment).

The Tiger with the long 88 and better turret is pretty decent, though the stock engine blows. I have it and the fully upgraded IS, and they’re comparable, roughly, with perhaps the edge going to the IS. But the stock Tiger is, shall we say, less than optimal.

I thought the soft wipe was cancelled over a month ago. Everything else I’ve seen about it seemed to be just wishful thinking. The base tiger in this game works better as a fire support tank, since other heavies have much better armor and slope. The excellent penetration of the 88mm/L71 makes it do this quite well though.

That gun is a great gun, no doubt about it. And yeah, while I’ve led a charge or two in the Tiger, it’s relatively slow and the slab-sided armor, especially in front, makes it unnecessarily vulnerable. I just love the look, far more than the IS’ generic look. Now, the IS-4, that looks pretty good, and the KT looks great too.

I’ve been fiddling mostly with low-mid (IV/V) arty. It’s actually fun, and the relatively fast loading/aiming M7 and Su-5 are more fun than the Hummel I have. Actually, the upgraded Wespe was more fun too. I doubt I’ll get to the Su-8 or M41 before the game goes live though.

Yeah, I really liked my fully upgraded Tiger.

But what I really like is my stock Jagdtiger. :) I just got it yesterday and it’s awesome - in my first match I had IS-3 unable to penetrate my front armor 5 or 6 shots in a row (he probably didn’t have his best gun yet but still). The nice thing about tier 9 vehicles is that it’s probably the only tier that starts with the best gun from the previous tier. Which helps a lot because it would be extremely hard to earn money with a lesser gun.

The Jagdtiger is about 20% more expensive to keep than the Ferdi (something like 12K full repair vs. 10K), on the other hand increased survivability (and the “fear factor”, it’s funny how people start panicking and do stupid things sometimes when they face a JT) allows to pump out more damage and earn more credits. Especially with the best gun. I have high hopes for it, I still keep my Ferdi for moneymaking purposes but I hope the JT will be able to replace it.

I do wish the Jagdtiger had the top Russian gun - 280 penetration and 750 damage is just scary.

I don’t have any tank that can reliably penetrate a ferdi from the front, let alone a jagdtiger, so I don’t really treat them any differently. The 225mm pen of the king tiger 10.5 just can’t reliably hurt either of them. I just load HE unless I have a chance to flank them.

I finally unlocked the big gun for my T29. Goddamn fuck yea! it shoots money but shure fucks shit up when it hits!

Going to save up some more xp before I jump on the Tiger, so I can buy the suspension and turret right away. Already have the second engine upgrade from the VK3601. That should make the transition less jarring.

Sweet. My plans of working my way up to a T29 were ruthlessly crushed by the motorized abortion that is the M3 Lee.

My path to the Pershing is currently stalled in the wasteland of T-20-ness. Yeah, the 90mm is a good gun, but the tank as a whole is kind of mediocre. Like the T-43.

Mine too! :) The path to Tiger or IS is much more pleasant and even though KV-3 is also nothing to write home about (I much prefer VK3601), KV-3 is not as frustrating as M3 Lee was. It’s relatively cheap to skip M3 Lee with free exp but the tanks after it don’t exactly excite me either.

The only reason people play the Lee is that it’s the gateway to the M7 Priest, M1 Heavy and M4 Sherman, all reasonable vehicles. Until and unless they get that 37mm turret working on the Lee, it’ll be a dog and a half.

I hate T29s. The 88 on my VK3002 can’t dent them. :-(

Sides and rear hull. Don’t ever shoot that titanium turret. I can usually track them reliably, but they can sure take a pounding.

Correction. I played some more and see that Jagdtiger is more expensive than that - full repair costs a bit over 15K. Which is a lot and can put you into considerable negative after especially unlucky matches, the higheest negative I’ve seen was -8K. OTOH, when winning, JT on average is gettign hurt less than the Ferdi, meaning it costs less to repair, so in the end it’s not that bad at all. I’ve made 180K credits in 2.5 hours yesterday playing the Jagdtiger exclusively.

I can’t wait to get THE GUN but 60K exp is going to take awhile to grind. Man, if this game, once released, allowed to simply buy the exp, I would go broke. :)

Shh, they’ll hear you! Next thing we know you will be able to get an IS-7 for $100 or something.

Not that that would be all that bad, really. I mean, who cares in a game like this?

Bought the Tiger, along with the suspension, second engine and turret. For the first dozen games at least, it has been a pleasant surprise. Like it way more than I thought I would. It’s slower than the VK3601, but not enough to have bothered me yet. The extra hp makes more of a difference than I had expected. Also, I could swear it’s more accurate than the VK, even though I’m using the same gun. No idea why, but precision shots seem to hit far more often. Hopefully it isn’t just a lucky streak. :)

Meh. Just because I said that, I got one-shotted by an IS - from the front. At a range where I couldn’t even see it. Fire, of course.

That IS was lucky, because its gun is about as accurate as pissing against the wind.

Tell me about it. It’s sort of a 50/50 chance your shell will and in the same county as the target even when your aiming circle is at minimum size.

One of the things I really like about this game is that every tank has its own optimal tactics. Just when you get really good at this tank, you unlock its successor and you have to learn how to drive a tank all over again.

And thats a good thing. Much of the fun in gaming is climbing the learning curves and with these tanks it hurts in the beginning but becomes real fun once the tank gets a couple upgrades and clicks with the driver.

Take the IS for example. I had gotten pretty damn deadly with the KV3. Had a good feel for the gun and made some good cash with it. Then I finally ground down the IS. And i died. A lot. Missed most of my shots and cried in my soup a lot. Now I’m slowly getting a feel for it and boy is it one awesome chariot of ultimate doom :D
