Very true. Which is one reason you hear people saying that this or that tank is horrible while others say it’s pretty good or even great. The difference between tank performance is of course determined in a large part by its stats, but skill does indeed play a role.

One of the things I really like about this game is that every tank has its own optimal tactics. Just when you get really good at this tank, you unlock its successor and you have to learn how to drive a tank all over again.

And thats a good thing. Much of the fun in gaming is climbing the learning curves and with these tanks it hurts in the beginning but becomes real fun once the tank gets a couple upgrades and clicks with the driver.

Take the IS for example. I had gotten pretty damn deadly with the KV3. Had a good feel for the gun and made some good cash with it. Then I finally ground down the IS. And i died. A lot. Missed most of my shots and cried in my soup a lot. Now I’m slowly getting a feel for it and boy is it one awesome chariot of ultimate doom :D

Absolutely, with KV-3 you have to think ahead. Your a slow, ponderous, giant and if you get into trouble you won’t be able to back out. In some ways I actually enjoyed the KV3 more because of that. That, and with the 122m the KV is just deadly. You can punch well above your tier if your smart about it.

I had the opposite problem with the IS. Yes, I could cross the map twice as fast but that just got me killed twice as quickly. Never leave the safety of the pack.

That depends. If you only want to unlock the Tiger heavy tank line, then go with the VK3601(H). If you want to unlock both the Tiger and Panther lines then go for the VK3001(H).

It is, but the Panther is better than the Tiger ultimately, if a lot harder to get because of the experience requirements. I started aiming for the Panther and got tired of the slog and switched over, and am pretty happy with the Tiger. But it’s not as flexible or overall as effective as a tricked-out Panther I think.

depends on style. I for one always happen to be out front. Dunno how that happens. Must be my square jaw or something that leads other people to believe they’ll be better off behind me or on the other side of the map. So I do best in slow tanks with hard noses and lots of HP.

I find the Tiger’s hard nose isn’t that hard, but I do like the long 88 a lot.

does anyone have a preferred research upgrade path for a Jagdpanther? I inherited a 88mm/56 from my previous TD.

tracks first, then 88mm/71, then engine?
or 88mm/71 first, then tracks, then engine?

The 3601 is loads of fun, the Tiger is a little underwhelming by comparison, but the King Tiger is great. You can always go back and try the Medium route later. Many of the upgrades transfer over so grinding won’t be quite as painful.

I went with tracks, gun, then engine. Though I’m still working on the last engine bit. As I don’t move that much anyhow that seems to work. The tracks help with maneuverability though.

Assuming you can even upgrade the gun without upgrading the tracks - I know you can’t do it on the Ferdi, not sure about the Jagdpanther.

Drive the stock one first and see if the stock tracks bother you at all. I am driving the Ferdi and Jagdtiger lately and think Jagdpanther’s stock tracks are ok (IIRC still more maneuverable than either of those two), so I would recommend to upgrade the gun first.

However, coming from Stug III and JagdPz IV, it might be frustrating to drive on the stock tracks and might suck out all the enjoyment out driving Jagdpanther. Since fun is more important then, in this case, upgrade the tracks first.

In the game where guns is your everything, upgrading guns ASAP makes more sense for TD’s, since they are not supposed to be maneuvering much anyway.

My conclusion is always go with tracks first. Half the time if you go with something else before upgrading tracks, you discover that mounting that new turret, gun, or engine puts you over the weight limit and you can’t upgrade until you upgrade the tracks.

Apparently xp and credits received are totally bugged right now. I got 8k and 9k xp and about 100k credits in my last two games. Oh, and crew training jumped up a ton too.

Edit: Apparently it’s intentional and will last 3 days.

Hmm, it’s offering me a choice between EU and US servers. If I move to EU I can’t move back, and the QT3 channel and the regulars are on the US server. How many here will make the move to EU ? I suspect there might not be enough here on the EU to ever have enough on to form a platoon, but my ping is halved.
