Now that all my vehicles are capable of damaging any enemy on the field, I’m liking this game a lot more. I mean, sure, a heavy will destroy my Su-85B or T-28 with one shot, but at least I can hurt the fuckers now that I have upgraded guns, and hey, if they don’t see me or they’ve other issues to deal with, I can even kill 'em.
I would love to see some sort of damage parser or even a post-match log of who did what to whom. So often you hit a vehicle at the same instant someone else does, and you don’t get the kill–did you do any damage? Hard to tell. And when playing arty, I often damage a lot of enemies but still people yell at be for being useless because I don’t have a lot of kills (and lower tier arty has trouble killing anything but light vehicles or severely damaged mediums/heavies). If there was a list that revealed the seven tanks I slapped for 15-40% it might help.
Yeah, even displaying something simple like Total Damage Dealt would make fights more satisfying from the bragging rights point of view. In my platoon, I (I guess) have slightly faster reaction, which means when a target presents itself, I am the first one to shoot at it and my platoon-mates always get to fire the finishing shot. Sigh. Well, at least I get my share of arty, heavies that can’t be killed in 3 shots and previously damaged tanks. :)

I ran into my first guy bitching about kill stealing this weekend. He wasn’t complaining about me, but several of us jumped on him and told him this was a team game and anyone with a shot should take it. He told us all to go f*ck ourselves. Added bonus since he was driving a KV with a long loading gun. Did he really expect people not to shoot at his target while he was reloading?!?
Some sort of damage listing might help reduce this type of complaint. Although given the fact that I’ve only heard about it before, and this was the first time I’ve seen it in 3000+ matches, maybe it’s not that big of a problem.
it’s times like that I wish the sparse chat system was even sparser or non-existent ;)
If anyone else enjoys low tier battles you should definitely consider the Hotchkiss premium tank. Picked one up recently as I was getting premium for a month, and I’ve since ditched my maxed out PzII as it’s just WAY more fun to use the hotchkiss.
It’s almost unbelievably slow, but it can take a ludicrous amount of damage from the tier I-III tanks its matched up against, and it’s gun is decent.
Here’s a good game, but this happens fairly frequently:

See the hits received (!)
That’s been the worst kept secret of the game since beta and it’s going to get nerfed in the next patch.

Yeah the post battle report is pretty lacking and doesn’t help you improve your play at all.
I’m of the opinion that a shot that hits a target which dies while your shot is still in the air should count as damage credit. I find it annoying as an artillery to fire a well placed shot that hits a tank a split second after it dies to someone else. This certainly happens to regular tanks as well.
I’ll go a step further and say it should ONLY say spots and damage. Leave kills off completely. It’s not an important stat in this game and it only encourages bad behavior.
I’d be fine with damage and spotting being gone too btw if kills were gone.

Yeah, I don’t understand why it shows a kill count on the side at all, as knowing who’s getting all the kills isn’t that important other than for bragging rights. Knowing who is dealing all the damage is more important really, and I don’t even think experience is given out based on kills.
there is a small bonus for kills, but compared to the other things that give xp it’s not worth changing how you play. (or bragging)

Right, but people aren’t talking about XP, they’re talking about the in-game leader board and the post-game breakdown.
It’s also worth remembering that 99% of players won’t carefully read the wiki section on XP generation, and will likely believe that XP gains are largely dependent on who lands the killing blow. That was my initial assumption. After all, if kills aren’t important, why list them so prominently?
Indeed. Almost as infuriating as the ‘you stole my kill’ crap. Imagine–you’re in a desperate tank battle at Kursk, and you’ve just managed to get three T-34s to bring down a Nazi Panther. Ivan in tank 3 screams at you, “you bastard, you stole my kill! I had been hitting him all day and you came up and popped him!”
Yeah.
Divide enemy xp total by 100. Assign 1 point for every 100th you gain. That would be a much more interesting in-game leaderboard.
Then you incentivise shooting at a 100% Panzer III rather than a 1% Tiger. Kills are important because dead tanks don’t shoot back. The 1% Tiger can hit as hard as a 100% Tiger.
you’re pretty much saying what I said right back at me. ;) I’m fully aware that we’re talking about the leaderboards, but someone asked specifically about kills giving rewards.

Yeah, you want the incentive to be shooting and damaging a tank, but a 1% tank is probably going to have a gunner/driver dead, a track destroyed, perhaps be on fire, or have a barely functioning turret. While their shots are still 100%, their effectiveness is severely diminished. This is why I don’t finish off 10% tanks as artillery unless it’s the most viable target in a strategic sense.
The way experience works should really be front and center information for new players. Knowing that you get experience for earning medals would compel more strategic, clean shooting gameplay.
give xp based on damage, then an xp bonus to all tanks on a team when a kill is made. (which is close to how it is anyway)
