Patch notes and notes on new visibility mechanics in 064.

Got into my Tiger II, and saving to buy my VK3002DB now.

The Tiger II is an excellent tank out of the gate, if a little sluggish. First match in it I picked up 6 kills. I kept my Tiger in my stable also as I grew to like it a great deal and will probably elite it. Trying to have at least one tank for tiers 2,5,6,7,8 (3 and 4 are mostly painful to play even with maxxed out tanks) so I can platoon up with less advanced folks.

I’m pretty interested in trying out the Company stuff, but that means looking for a clan, and that sounds painful ;)

It does, but I don’t run into it very often since most folks bypass it and level up into the SU-100 instead. I certainly did.

i happened upon the new steppe map on my russian account. its awesome. perfect almost flat tank country. very small undulations in the terrain make for nice hull down spots and theres plenty big rocks strewn around for hard cover. looks like my new favourite map.

Initial impressions from the Russian server running 0.6.4.

Hooray for more arty nerfs!

And I can’t wait to see how the new tracking mechanic works. I was starting to get seriously frustrated with zero damage tracking shots.

Maus is starting to look like an attractive goal, all of a sudden.

If this is true, great. German armor has needed some love for a long, long time.

Server reticule?

Caps Lock + 0

It enables a blue crosshair thingy showing where the server thinks you are aiming.

Wow, I never knew about that. I’ll have to try it. Is it arty only, or does it work for all vehicles? And is it a permanent toggle, or must you type it in every match, or even every time you want the information?

I killed an IS today with my VK3001 using a 105mm gun and an HE round. I was so proud–a level 6 tank using a level 4 gun and killing a heavy tank like that.

its funny how every time you manage to claw yourself into something you considered an invulnerable God tank of awesome pwnage, it turns out to just another big old firecracker that gets stomped on by the big boys.

i remember getting to the IS4 in beta and thinking NOW im there. Now i shall rule and all shall bow before me. And then i met a kingtiger. and his buddies. and died.

I don’t remember really being able to do much damage to IS-4’s with my king tiger in beta. I’m pretty sure I had to spam HE.

KT’s with long guns were one of the few things that could routinely take good sized chunks of my health and/or severely fuck up my God Tank. They always managed to poke at the the soft bits with their great accuracy.

but then, thats how WoT works isnt it? you think something is great, then you get it and the other thing seems great, but it sucks compared to the other thing (or so it seems). Guess its the downside to great balancing while maintaining some semblance of differentiation.

How’s the A-20 compare with the Leopard? I really liked my Leopard in beta.

compared to the leopard, I don’t know that the A-20 can compare in any category. :(

It has high top speed, but bad maneuverability and acceleration

One important difference is that the A-20 leads to the T-34 which is a great tank. Ultimately the T-34 leads to the T-54 which is supposedly one of the best tanks in the game. (I haven’t played it, but the T-44 just below it is a lot of fun.)

The Leopard doesn’t lead to anything. It’s a dead end in the tech tree.

Just to add on to what Harkonis says, IIRC the Leopard is a much tougher tank too. I know in beta, my Leopard actually could take a fair number of hits and keep going.

Personally I’m waiting on playing any lights until the 0.6.4 patch comes out with the reduced de-tracking.

It works for all vehicles (well, apparently, it’s disabled for arty in 6.4) and you have to press it in the begining of every match (during the countdown works too).

It’s a nifty feature but can get kinda distracting cause you have now 3 crosshairs to keep track of. The regular one is a kind of smoothed out approximated version of the blue one, the server reticle jumps a lot when you are driving or turning (even when the regular one doesn’t), explaining some of the “sure hit” on-the-move misses that occurr from time to time.

They are planning to add a tier 5 light tank after the leopard at some later stage.

I’d agree it is a surprisingly tough tank for a “light”. I’ve still got some of my best xp driving it - but you really only shine if there is someone on your team who can do something about that monster god tank you just spotted and are now rapidly backing away from into cover…

The other thing to consider is radio range - I can’t remember which out of leopard or a-20 has longer range.

So how many awful games can I expect to have in a KV before it becomes an acceptable tank?

depends, i’d say about ten or twenty. by then you will have learned to love it :P
