I believe the PZ 3/4 is a bit quicker but less armored than the PZ4, but can ultimately sport most of the same guns

Because it doesn’t happen in third person mode, so they thought everyone who aimed in first person was at a disadvantage

they should have done it the other way around…

The German heavies are a lot of fun up through the Tiger II. I’m not a fan of the VK4502 or the Maus though. In general the Germans have better optics and their cannons are far more accurate. They do less damage however and they make poor brawlers compared to the Russians who just shrug off shells with their sloped armored.

The PzIV is the first really good one though. It’s a very effective sniper once you’ve upgraded the turret and equipped the top of the line gun.

However, both the VK45 and Maus have been greatly improved in 6.4 and I heard some VERY positive feedback on the Russian server.

Still haven’t seen the Maus on the US server and I think I’ve seen the VK45 only once.

I’ve seen a fair number of VK45s before the patch, and I was always impressed with the damage they could absorb. What was improved on them in 6.4?

Mostly armor.

Also one of the main fixes they did in 6.4 is they fixed the bug that’s been plagueing top german vehicles for a long time - their gun mantels used to be made of paper, even 56 mm guns could penetrate it. Not anymore.

they (the vk4501 tennis shoe) were put in dukes shrink ray for one. they used to be huge, now they are smaller than my KV.

Seems my problem with arty was that the matchmaking was putting my t2 arty up against t4 and t5 tanks, hence doing zilch damage. 6 or 7 games today and back to fighting tanks that i either one or two shot, much better :)

Really enjoying the AT1 with the T4 gun, but the inability of friendlies to act as spotters frustrates. Like the sound of the T3/T4 soviet TDs

The III/IV is much faster and more maneuverable (especially with the last engine) – this thing just flies really. It used to have better (hull) armor than the Panzer IV but after 0.6.4 it is comparable.

However the gun selection on the Panzer III/IV is absolutely horrible. You don’t get the Schmallturm turret, so you don’t get access to the 75mm L/70 gun that makes Panzer IV such an effective sniper. You also don’t get access to the 105mm HE gun. Your best weapon will be a gun with 106mm penetration, some 115 damage and a terrible 0.38 accuracy.

The real difference between them (aside from combat effectiveness), however, is the lines of progression they direct you towards. Going with a Panzer IV opens up the possibility of going the German heavy tank line through the VK3601H and VK3001H, both of which are pretty good (armor vs speed is the difference) and unlock the Tiger.
It also gives you the option to do a side move from the VK3001H to the VK3001P, which allows you to access the German medium tank line as well, but at the cost of essentially unlocking a tier 6 tank twice. And the VK3001P is really, really, really, really, REALLY bad in stock form – it gets OK when fully upgraded though.

Going with the Panzer III/IV, on the other hand, only allows access the German medium tank line, no way to get to the heavies without going back to the Panzer III and unlocking the Panzer IV. Which means you go directly from the sub par Panzer III/IV to the indescribably terrible in stock VK3001P, then to the VK3002DB (excellent armor and mobility but very undergunned for tier 7) and then onto the Panther and Panther II.

This is all supposed to change with the tech tree revision, but who knows when that’s going to happen.

That thing takes forever to get though. Still the Su85 even with the next gun upgrade is extremely solid.

The 107 just turns it into merciless killing machine in its tier.

I used to rock it mercilessly in beta. somewhere along the way i unlearned how to pwn faces with a TD i guess. been grinding hard today to get the cash for a KV3. everytime i set that thing to move at the beginning of the battle, that little voice clip from red alert 2 goes through my head: “I am big”. It s something the apocalypse tank used to say iirc.

Well it is crazy long, which can be a pain, but with solid positioning you can usually do pretty well. Its gonna vary depending on the map though.

And you really can’t take a hit.

Something is absolutely killing my frame rate and response time. My computer was doing very well with Max settings before the 0.6.4 upgrade.

Also who the heck thought having a “are you really sure you want to do that” dialog on reloading ammo and repairing a tank was a good idea? I didn’t see anyway to disable that. Does anyone know if this is possible to get rid of?

I’m not seeing much difference in my ability to detrack enemy tanks. Punching them in the side (not just in the front cog wheel or back wheel) seems to detrack them just as it did before.

[Edit] So apparently the way to avoid the “are you really sure you want to do that” dialog is to separately reload ammo and then repair the tank instead of clicking on the single button that does both. Still seems like a really dumb change. When would you not want to both reload and repair?

Not sure what they changed, but right now it’s pretty close to unplayable for me. I used to get around 60 fps with max settings. Now with reduced settings I’m getting 20-30 fps. Not sure what my ping was before, but now it spikes up to 200.

My tank is shifting all over the place under me. It doesn’t respond to instructions and jumps forward or jumps backward randomly. Really horrible.

It reminds me of that 2 week or so section of beta where they tried to see how few servers they could run on.

Yea, the server lag is horrible again tonight. Hopefully they find a fix. It started with the patch, so I’m assuming it is related somehow.

ydejin, don’t your tanks repair and reload automatically after a battle?

No. I have to click on them and bring up the repair and reload screen and then click on the various buttons. Is there a setting to auto repair?

Just got a chance to play post-patch. Have to agree about the lag. It is pretty horrific now and is occurring in all maps. Everyone’s tanks were popping around the battlefield and all were suffering problems with movement. Probably best to go defense until they sort out the issues with the lag.

EDIT: Seems once the servers exceed 9,000 players the lag really kicks in. Hopefully this is simply a server load issue and they can increase their server resources to compensate.

There should be a little tick box next to Repair Automatically and Resupply Automatically on your Service screen for each tank.

On the service window there are 2 checkboxes for repair and resupply automatically.
