Yeah JgdPz IV is my least favorite TD in the game and I’ve tried most of them. This time around, I’ve skipped a lot of its grind by converting the “free” exp I’ve got on other tanks, mostly Stug.

Its too bad the JagdPanzer IV sucks so bad because imo its one of the coolest looking things in a game that is all about cool looking things shooting the bejeesus out of other cool machines.

By the way, StriderGG, i took the liberty of taking the gist of your post about numbers of players and the matchmaker and reposting it on the .eu WoT forum. Its too important a point to not be seen by the devs.

Indeed, the IV looks wicked. Too bad its performance doesn’t live up to its aesthetic.

With the SU 100 I’m having a hard time deciding which gun to use: the 122 or 100. The 122 does more damage but it’s so much slower to reload and less accurate then the 100. It seems like accuracy would be more important for long distance sniping.

EDIT: Doh, of course I have the 100, it’s necessary on the way to the 122. I put a rammer on it and I really like the one-shot ability, though I think overall the 100 might be a better gun.

In not-so-related news, why can’t people understand that if you don’t screen your arty it’s pretty useless? I like playing arty but I’m always getting left on my own and killed by dippy little scouts because no one wants to play D.

No one wants to play D, period, not just for arty. I just lost literally 20 games in a row because my team all went kamikaze crazy every single match. This has happened to me before, too–a long streak of absurd losses is painful in a PUG, and it can’t be entirely my fault, since no one player is either good or bad enough to cause that many failures or wins, had it gone the other way.

Yeah. I often find myself staying behind, particularly if I’m low man on the totem pole and not a light, to screen the arty or play sweeper. I was lucky, as arty, in one match to have a very nice and skilled Marder driver hang around guarding me. Was very welcome, but unusual.

Not sure why y’all hate the JagdPanzer IV. I think it’s a pretty solid TD. It’s fairly well armoured, with excellent armour slope. It’s got a very low profile making it harder to hit at a distance. It’s got good speed, for when I need to change positions. The gun traverse is a bit less than I’d like – kind of like the Hetzer – so I end up having to turn the hull more than I’d like. Best gun is kind of meh, but it’s the same gun as the VK3001s and the VK3601(H) gets. Penetration could be a bit higher, and I wish it was more accurate, but it does good damage.

All in all, I find it a very solid enjoyable TD.

One neat trick I discovered in urban environments is that the JagdPanzer is low enough profile so that most regular tanks can shoot straight over it’s back. You can double your firepower – a JagdPanzer IV with a Tiger I shooting over it’s back can put some heavy hurt on whatever is in front.

I don’t hate it, I just think it doesn’t perform at the level the matchmaking system ascribes to it, tier-wise. I played one a lot in beta, and it wasn’t as fun as a StuG but it was serviceable.

I see they’ve added tracers back in for tanks you’ve spotted. I was kinda getting used to no tracers :D

A jagdpz4 is pretty much unkillable death to most things its tier or below, as long as they’re facing its front. It’s just so hard to get through the sloped armor. I hated facing them in beta until I was bigger than them. Of course back then in beta there were far fewer maps so something like 1/3 of the maps were city maps. Now a lot less maps are city maps, proportionately.

Reading that reminded me of the Hitzones skins. They are apparently why various parts of my tank and members of my crew are getting knocked out more frequently than they used to.

I think I’m going to give up on TDs for now. They just don’t see to be all that good in the game right now thanks to all the higher tier tanks. Also for being long range support their accuracy is not as good. In my PZkpfw 3, I just sniped someone from 538 m whereas my SU100 misses at 238 m.

Wow, I can’t say I’m very excited to see that. Seems like a pretty big cheat to me. Having the information posted somewhere is all good, but actually altering the game visually to highlight targets just seems to ruin the fun IMO.

I think in short order they are going to have lock all the tank models/skins from editing with the client somehow.

This is exactly what’s wrong with the JgdPz IV. With it, you have a choice between 2 guns: 138/135 (Pen/Dam) or 132/220. With SU-100 (same tier Russian TD), for example, you don’t really have a choice (arguably), you have linear progression from 144/165 to 175/230 to 175/390.

SU-100 has the same guns as tier 7 heavy, JgdPz IV has the same guns as tier 6 medium. Weird.

Yes, there are other considerations, like Rate of Fire but high RoF doesn’t help you much if you can’t penetrate stuff. And, as was said before, in the current matchmaking environment, JgdPz IV has issues penetrating most of its enemies. It is frustrating to sport a medium’s gun but have no medium’s mobility and it doesn’t really work well with the TD’s concept (sacrificing turret to install a more powerfull fun).

All other German TD’s, before and after the JgdPz IV, have more or less adequate gun choices for their tiers. Starting with JagdPanther, you can see how Russian TD’s have stealth and a bit more pen/dam and Germans have armor, still very adequate pen/dam and higher RoF and accuracy. This concept does offer some variety and it works.

Not with JgdPz IV though.

I’ve always been of the opinion that they should do this, since skins like Hitzone are the inevitable result if they don’t.

The A shaped reticule, as one of the posters in that thread noted, gives you approximately the same info by changing from green to orange to gray or whatnot based on your chance to penetrate. It doesn’t tell you what you’d be damaging, though. That skin job is IMO a borderline cheat, in that good players already know where to hit a tank, and this merely serves as a memory aid really. But I would personally love to see no skin mods allowed at all. Even worse than this one are the mods that code tanks bright, fluorescent colors for instance, making them easier to see, etc.

the devs have said they are okay with those skins, which I feel unfortunately says a lot about the quality of the devs. :(

Looking at the screenshots, bright fluorescent colors are a big part of the Hitzone skins, so its users get the best of both worlds. I hate to admit it, but the temptation to use this thing is strong–in a PvP setting, not availing oneself of every possible advantage is literally fatal, since many/most of your foes will do so.
