Shut yer face!

(download still not up in the States)

new maps are very nice. open and with great tactical gameplay. they look distinct and pretty as well. truly fine work.

The american TD line is humongous fun for as far as i’ve played it (the first three vehicles) in that they get armed with fast derp guns. they are also relatively nimble and have great fields of fire. Looking forward to continuing on that line.

Shit i have more tanks than i have time to play. this way i’ll be forever stuck at t5-7 :/

Oh my, the US voice acting for the TDs at least is horribad. The first TD is a clown car, though it’s pretty darn fun. Whole matches of nothing but T18s are a hoot. And someone already has a T25 AT. Must have been hoarding that experience.

Ha, I saw a dude in a T95 this morning. That is a lot of converted xp.

And yes, the new voices are absolutely terrible. I liked the old voices a lot, I’m not sure why they felt the need to change them.

To get the old voices back and restore your sanity.

Duffman has found new employment.

I feel a reinstall coming on to play with new TD and duffman voice :-)

The lower tier US TDs are actually fun to play; the T4 or T5 I think 57mm gun is particularly nice, better probably than the first 76mm you unlock. Very maneuverable little beasts. I am debating whether to go for the M10 Wolverine first or work on one of my other tanks, but the M10 seems to perform pretty well in matches I’ve been in.

The two new maps, Redshire and Arctic something or other I think, are cool; the former is really nice.

Matchmaking seems to be worse. I played two games and kinda ragequit after I was in my tier 6 KV3, the very bottom of 15 twice in a row, and 10+ vehicles in each game were tier 9 and basically immune to me. And oh god the voices.

I just had a blast on Arctic, which has lots of interesting terrain features. Before it was done, my IS-4 destroyed 8 and got Top Gun, Sniper, Steel Wall, and Whitman’s. Whee!

Edit: but yeah, I hate the new voices. I’m checking the thread Knightsaber linked.

Installing the old voices in the manner described in the linked thread disabled them all instead. I’m fine with that–I never thought they added much to the game, though the original actor was far superior to the new one.

Strange, I just extracted the two files, removed the new ones from the WoT game folder and put the two old ones in their place and the old voices are running fine for me.

If you poke around the forums there are several places to get the old voices back, and various ways to do it, apparently.

Lucky I got it to work on the first try…check the creative forum too, where people post skins. I’ve seen a few there too.

Whoa! the first us td is awesome… much armor and a 75 or76 mm gun that could onehit nearly everything in its level…

Ugh, the M36 Jackson (in game as Slugger) is such a disappointment (to the point where I’m only playing it to get to the T25 AT, aka the better Jagdpanther). I so wished that the Slugger would turn out to effectively be a tier 6 medium tank with a 90mm gun, but no such luck.

It only moves at 42kph, which would have been acceptable, but due to its relatively slow hull traverse rate, it bleeds speed so quickly on turns. And it doesn’t turn quickly either.

It accelerates slowly, just a bit faster than the KV-1S, but not nearly as well as a VK3601H, for example.

While the turret traverse rate of 20 degrees/sec might seem workable on paper (especially if one is used to the KV-2), in practice it’s very limiting. Often by the time you’ve turned the turret, the target you were going to shoot is no longer available. So you end up having to traverse the hull as well, which often isn’t desirable.

Then there’s the reverse speed. Real medium tanks are about twice as fast in reverse as TDs and heavies, but not the M36 Jackson. It reverses as slowly as the rest of its TD brethren. Which greatly limits its peekaboo effectiveness. One gets so used to the fast dancing ability of medium tanks (unless you’re a Panzer IV with the second turret) that it becomes really jarring in anything else. I’ve been playing exclusively medium tanks for the last few weeks and the reverse speed of regular vehicles is absolutely painful.

Then there’s the armor. Well, the utter lack of it. That 114mm frontal armor it supposedly has, and highly sloped? It’s a lie. There’s no other way to put it. This thing doesn’t even bounce as well as a Sherman E8. It stops a round maybe once in a blue moon.
The turret mantle is the only strong part on the vehicle, where I managed to bounce the 90mm on a fellow Slugger. Everywhere else your armor is made of paper.

So the only thing you have is a slightly faster yet far more fragile M6 with a gun that aims and fires slightly faster and is slightly more accurate. Same tier 6, but with way less health (590 with the closed turret). So, aside from those minor differences and 7kph more speed, why would one play the M36 rather than the M6 heavy? I had one in the beta fully upgraded and it was remarkably effective if played correctly. And it can actually bounce things from the front!

The Slugger is nothing but a source of frustration so far. If it had just 50-100 more horsepower it would be quite decent, but it is constantly betrayed by its engine. When you have neither the armor nor mobility to keep you alive, you’re pretty much forced to hide and snipe like a regular TD, and I hate playing regular TDs these days.

And what I’d really kill for would be a tier 6 medium, something like a Sherman M4 or E8 but with a 90mm gun. I’d pay Lowe money for that. :(

Looks like they’re doing another series of 5x days starting when the server resets late tonight/early this morning. If you want the big XP boost for your first win, hold off on playing for another 12 hours or so.

Wouldn’t that be the server reset that already happened this morning?

Now, in history-land, as opposed to game-land, the M36’s benefit was that it was the only US combat vehicle with a 90mm AT capability, beyond the twenty or so Pershings that actually got into combat, from what I recall reading. So its deficiencies would have been easily accepted. In WoT, though, you’re right, it’s a hard sell compared to the M6.

The M10 Wolverine, though, is fun, and with the top gun it’s ruthless in its tier. It’s fragile, but the combo of decent mobility when upgraded, good killing power, and a turret make it a solid vehicle.

What I wonder about is the absence of the M18 Hellcat, the speedy US TD that would be as fast in the game as the Leopard, if not faster, and mount a decent 76mm gun.

DO NOT HOLD OFF.

I just got my 5x (well a bunch of them) at 9pm EST.

Supposedly it’s coming with the “alternative” US TD tree. ETA: no idea.

Thanks for the impressions Supper. I was looking forward to trying out the Slugger, so it is interesting to hear your disappointment with it. I was wondering how they were going to balance the “TD with a turret” situation, and it sounds like it is basically a slower medium with a better gun but little armor.

I play the German and Russian TDs and don’t spend as much time in mediums, so I wonder if I will be more accustomed to the sluggishness. Still, it sounds like you still have to play it as a TD first, with a much wider traverse (which sounds appealing to me at least).

I have played the T82, which is the tier 3 US TD. It is pretty fun and reminds of the Marder, though not quite the same punch. You can pick between 2 tier 5 guns, but one is a howitzer with horrible accuracy, and I don’t like that style much. The other gun has nice accuracy and rate of fire.

It looked to me that the RAR file had the directories a bit messed up. The files need to go into the audio subdirectory of the res directory. You can double check by looking for the original “ingame_voice.fsb” and “ingame_voice.fev” files. I ended up opening the RAR file in another folder and then manually copying the files into the WoT directory.

Thanks for the link Knightsaber. Those new voices were a bit much.
