The post you quote raises valid points, as do you. I’d be the last to give the developers of WoT a pass on some of these issues. The key thing though, for the guy you quoted and probably for others, is the fact that they don’t like the battles per se. Now that might be due to the matchmaking or the arty or the pacing or the maps, but for whatever reason, they don’t enjoy actually playing the game.
If that’s the case, of course it’s going to be a miserable experience. And yeah, there are a lot of things the game does that annoy the hell out of me. But in the end, I actually like the battles, even in crappy tanks. It’s the same fun I used to get from BF 1942 (ok, maybe not quite as good as that!) or Threewave CTF or CS. Repetitive? Yeah. Frustrating? Sometimes. Pointless? It’s a friggin’ video game.
The leveling stuff is a lot like Battlefield 2 or any of the other contemporary shooters, in a lot of ways, though the tiering introduces real complexities that those other games don’t have. But it’s similar that if you don’t like the core gameplay as it’s delivered, nothing in the leveling and getting new stuff model is going to fix that.
Ultimately, if the decisions they make are overwhelming crappy, the game will croak, and while I’ll be disappointed I’ll have gotten my money’s worth at least.

I suspect the reason TMan is so annoyed is that he did enjoy playing the game, until the shine wore off and the frustration mounted and began to outweigh the good. Certainly that’s true for me; I loved it, for a while.
It’s worse when you love something and then grow to hate it than it is to hate from the beginning. Also a lot harder to let go (see also: Star Wars, Anita Blake, [your example here]). Fortunately, I rage uninstalled and haven’t been tempted to reinstall, but I’m still reading this thread; I still have the bug. A little bit.
Only current WoT frustration: unlocked IS-4 tonight, 1.1m credits short of buying one.
Foresee a lot of Lowe and Hummel matches in my future.

Isn’t this the truth? If I only played a few days and quit, I wouldn’t be so vocal. I do like the game. I do have fun on some matches, it’s not all rage, but damn it, this game could be great & the developers are holding it back.
Thats what has me thinking about the löwe: i unlocked kv13, jpz4, m40 but lack the credits to buy them. 7500 gold directly exchanged to cred would also easily buy them all tho. what to do, what to do.

Basically same for me on T-54. I’m 10,000 xp short of unlocking it and, assuming I sell off my current T-44, I’m still 1,000,000 credits shy of what I need to by one.

Don’t buy credits with gold, that seems like a really bad deal long term. The Löwe is a much better investment if you plan on sticking with the game.

T-54 and Panther now both unlocked and only 20,000 xp from unlocking the IS. Now if I only had the credits to buy them … Selling the T-44 I am now only 500,000 credits from getting the T-54.

I just bought my Tiger II and was thankfully able to afford to put on the top engine.
Would love to be able to buy rammer/gun laying drives on all my tanks, but no premium tanks and not paying for them either!

Well the new US TD line and the promo weekend seem to have had a beneficial effect on the population distribution - I played my tier 4 leopard and ended up the top of my team, against a very arty / TD heavy Tier 4/3/2 match. TOTAL DOMINATION IN A LEOPARD, WOOHOO!! one / two shotted everything I saw, bounced shots off the armor and ended with 4 kills. Could have got more I think if I had of just charged down the middle, but I played like I was going to enjoy the experience of being the hunter rather than huntee and make it to the end of the match goddamit!
The next match of course I was the lowest in team again and up against Tier 7. Anyway, enjoying the game again for a while, see how long before the grind gets to me.
I may start on the US TD line, just to see what they are like and enjoy the rapid advancement. My highest tier so far is Tier 4, and a Stug and Pz IV unlocked but not purchased. (and I bought a Tier 5 Ram -II)
On arty I am currently stuck with Wespe, which is very much unfun, but it is almost unlocked the grille now, so sticking with it.
No heavy tanks yet, although I think I could buy the first US one or the one on the way to KV.

I’ve got 12 active tanks all with rammers and their other equipment slots filled – a mix of gun layers, optics, binoculars, camo nets, and a wet ammo rack for my poor explosion prone T-44.
I’m sure my proliferation of equipment is not helping my finances!

You should think about going up the Russian medium line Talorc. The T-44 is all about zooming around the battlefield at Leopard speeds, and plastering stuff from the sides and back, taking out artillery, and generally causing mayhem.
Bought myself a Matilda (because I think the game peaks around Tier V, even if that’s handicapping my moneymaking in the long term) and a SU-85 last night. The Matilda’s cool, if slow, but the SU-85 is such a breath of fresh air after the SU-85B. It’s actually maneuverable with the default engine and suspension, the standard gun isn’t great but it’s usable, and the gun doesn’t have a stupidly small traverse like the SU-85B. I think I’m sticking with it for the long term.

Yeah, I am torn between my first Tier V being a T-34 or the Pz IV
Hehe, guess what. Every freaking game has a bunch of “I really liked the game but the devs screwed it up so bad, it’s time to move on” posts. That’s just what a lot of people do before stopping playing a game - whine.
That guy in particular makes exactly one good point - “one game mode”. Everythnig else is just whining of a guy who wants to play a different game.
It’s like coming to a Counterstrike board and start playing a drama queen going “blah blah small maps blah blah same fights blah blah fantasy weapons”. Yeah, that’s kind of what the game is about.
“No incentive to win” is probably the stupidest argument I have seen in this kind of games. What do you expect? The devs sending you a hundred bucks every time you win? When someone says “no incentive to win”, followed by “too much grind” followed by “who cares how fast you die”, it really makes you wonder why the guy even plays this kind of games.
The game was released in April, we had 2 patches in almost 3 months (and pretty hefty patches too), how many more did he expect?
The game is far from perfect, of course, like any other game. But if looking for a well thought out critique, you could found a better post on the WoT board than this one.
I’m torn on the Lowe. Just how much of a moneymaker is it? I’ve been having no problems generating good cash with my 3601, PvIV and III/IV and enjoy playing them but I fear the cash drain at higher tiers.
About the lack of credits issue. One obvious way to get credits is, of course to buy a premium tank and I would buy the Lowe if I were to buy one.
Another way is, I heard, arty. I can’t vouch for this myself as I don’t play arty but my friend says he makes lots of credits with his SU-8. But I have to add that he is REALLY good with arty.
My way to make credits is TD’s. SU-100 is an exceptional earner and it’s pretty easy to get to it. But, in my experience, the best earner is the Ferdinand. The combination of high penetration, damage, accuracy and survivability allows for some trully great credit farming. The fact that the Ferdi is rarely in the front line also helps.
Not sure how good ISU is for farming - I don’t have one but my friend complained about its survivability - everyone seems to target it once its detected (understandably so :)).
Pretty much all TD’s are good for farming, with the exception of JagdPz IV (and I am not sure about the tier 9 ones), but the Ferdi is IMO the best.
I also like playing TD’s. So if you do too (or if you would like a nice distraction from playing a “regular” tank), try TD’s - they are good for credits.
(I am talking about vehicles with top guns only, of course.)
IIRC (and I don’t own Lowe), it’s not uncommon to make about 40K per win after paying all expenses and it doesn’t go much into negatives when it loses a match.
Lowe is a pretty good moneymaker but it’s not a dream super tank (see nomaar’s post above). Lowe is clearly inferior to any (fully upgraded) “regular” tier 8 heavy but it’s better than the stock “regulars”. The problem is that stock “regulars” eventually become fully upgraded and the Lowe does not change.
Remember that most people (including myself) play the game without the Lowe or any other premium tank and they are doing just fine.

It’s not uncommon to make 60k after expenses and I’ve had a few matches where I made a 100k profit.
It’s also not clearly inferior to the other tier eight heavies, it’s a slow tiger 2. The gun has better penetration, same damage, slightly better accuracy and slightly longer aimtime, frontal armor is listed as 120mm, 30 less than the Tiger 2 but it regularly bounces tier 8 shots from the front due to the angle.
It needs a certain playstyle to be effective, supportgunner really, but it’s a very capable tank and miles away from the KV5 for instance.
I do agree that you don’t need it or any premium to stay competitive, but having it means that you can grind credits at a rate far beyond any other tank I’ve encountered.
