What tier do you guys start throwing things like camo nets and spall liners onto the tanks?
Camo nets can be transferred from tank to tank, battle to battle, so as soon as possible (2 camo nets will cover all your tanks normally)
For non transferables, tanks that are going to be “keepers”.

German tank line goes in two directions - one via the PzIV through to heavy tigers, other through Pz III/IV along to medium panthers.
Tigers are stand back and shoot heavies. Panthers are mobile and need to flank
So basically you choose slow and heavy or faster but less armoured. All german tanks are “shooty” with decent guns.
I’ve got a t-34, Pz IV and m7. The t-34 and m7 are probably more like the early light tanks - zoomy and ok shooty, but not great. Pz IV is getting slower but much shootier.
Also, I really hated the Pz 38na. You keep getting put in high tier matches. Havent advanced the German medium line as a result.
Anyway, from here -
Try a TD, see if you like it ( German or us I reckon)
Maybe think about running either a us or Russian tank as well - aim for either the sherman, KV or t-34. All of those are fun, excepting maybe some of the lighter tanks on way to -34

You can transfer permanent equipment for gold. IIRC I think it comes out to 4 cents per module. I decided given the amount of time and effort it takes to earn 500,000 credits transferring for 4 cents was well worth the cost. YMMV of course.
I have camo nets on all but one of my vehicles, including my Tier 1 Leichttraktor. I doubt it does much good, but it’s cheap and transferable.
I also use a Binocular Telescope on every vehicle. It’s expensive (500,000 credits) but the extra viewing range for a stationary vehicle is important. And like the camo net, it is transferable.
The fully upgraded T32 is pretty solid, I’m finding. I have little incentive though to accelerate my grind to the next tank, which until you get the obscenely expensive upgraded gun seems like a side-grade rather than an upgrade. So I think my next priority is getting my Panther and the BL10 on my ISU, followed by running up my IS (which until you get the turret and the 122 is pretty meh with the 100).
I’m pretty happy with the 100 on the IS as it has the same penetration as the 122’s and good accuracy and aim time.
This game has really been eating up my free time. My real and only frustration is the often lemming-like quality of some teams. Nothing is more frustrating that looking up two minutes into a fight and finding that half your team has evaporated in a suicide rush. Or ninety percent went to the same side and left other approaches wide open. But that is, I guess, the nature of public games.
Having said that, I am wondering how much the game changes in clan wars. Are any of you currently participating? Does it require a great time commitment? Is there actually strategy and planning? I’m intrigued, but have been hesitant to find a clan. I like the pick up and play nature of the pub games, and don’t want to have my life eaten as it has in the past by other MMOs.

I have been having fun with it the past week as well. I have done about 200 battles in that time. Some times you get a great team and other times they are pretty bad. In one of my games last night my team had actually capped the enemy base, close to 100% if not there, but they saw an enemy tank and all of them apparently left the base area, ending with the opposing team capping our base. Another round last night we had 2 KVs in a platoon together. Some guy bumped one of the KVs so his buddy TK’d that guy. The 3 of them spent the rest of the round arguing in chat. Total kills for KVs: -1
Demounting the non-transferable equipment costs 10g, so around $0.05-$0.06 at the lowest buy-in for gold.
It’s not a bad gun, but it feels, I don’t know, weaker on the IS than on the T-34-85. Then again, even the 122 seems kind of weak compared to what I’m being hit with…
Sorry, but after enduring the long grind through the short 88 Tiger, IS owners have nothing to complain about.
I’ve got the short 88 on both the Tiger and the DB, and yeah, it’s probably worse than the D10 on paper but in practice it seems on par. But neither weapon is as good as it should be given historical data, or at least, that’s what it seems like.

Clan war battles are generally far more coordinated than public battles, which, as you’ve noticed, is a big draw. I’m currently grinding up the U.S. heavy line with the goal of eventually participating in clan wars. Participation does not demand a massive time investment, but to participate effectively you need a top-tier tank. (I’ve occasionally been able to join “B-Squad” battles in a tier 8, but those have been outlier cases.)
Getting into a top-tier tank is going to take a long grind, even with Premium. (Which is basically mandatory while levelling.) If you’re new to the game I would focus on enjoying the game; unless you’re willing to make major personal sacrifices you’re not going to get into clan wars for a while. But it’s something the game offers to experienced players.
The soviet tier 6’s are probably all over-gunned for their tier, honestly. Then the tier 7 heavies and tier 7 and 8 mediums use all the same guns, basically. It kinda messes with your expectations when your firepower doesn’t increase across that much playtime.
Yeah, that makes sense. Pay now or pay later I guess. US is similar, as you get that 105 with the T29 and it lingers on for two more tiers.

I feel like this is where the Hit Point system fails. Tanks of higher tier have higher HP, but the guns don’t get any better for a lot of tanks, so suddenly the guns are less effective, which just irks me. They should almost scale the damage dealt based upon the tier of the tank (or do away with the hitpoint scaling, but then of course quite a few tanks would feel even more painful to upgrade to, since some tanks, that’s all they really have going for them.)
Clan battles make this game a lot more fun, I ground out a Object 212 just to make A-teams. (though I’m sitting in B-team with Dave47 right now, heh). Clans use actual tactics, most of the time.
Actually got Top Gun on my M12 last night, with six kills. Of course, the absurdity of it all is that most of those, if not all, were kills on enemies that were at like 3 or 5%–arty is great for picking up the leavings of the real tanks :). But it is amazing how many tanks, especially heavies, will clearly be under observation, take artillery fire, and simply not move, or if they do move, they move five feet and stop, in the open.

One of the things I really like about World of Tanks is how easy it is to succumb to tunnel vision while fighting. You want to aim at a weak point, so you put yourself in sniper mode, and suddenly you can’t tell where incoming fire is coming from.
I’m currently training myself to glance in the bottom right every time I’m critted to see if it’s coming from artillery.

Okay. It has happened. When I go to bed the first thing I see behind my eyes is the target reticule going from red to green. And when I dream, I dream of getting a rear shot. On a bigger tank. This is my dream. This is my life now.
