Wow, amazing round with my KV-13 on himmelsdorf. I was the only tank that went top, and up there I solo killed not one but two panthers, then dropped around the back and tagged a tiger 2 and a gw panther that others finished off. 16 shots, 16 hits, and a whopping 3818 xp (my first win of the day for the tank).

Welcome to the tier 4 blues. Yes, the matchmaker is cruel to tier 4 and the main advancement lines for all three countries run through some seriously flawed tanks at tier 4. The T-28 has something approaching zero armor, the PzIII is undergunned, and the M3 is essentially a sluggish TD with a lighthouse on top. I actually found the PzIII the most fun of the three. At least you could run around and scout and go hunting for arty.

Personally I’ve only used gold to transfer XP to help get tanks out of stock setups. Stock grinds can get pretty bad, and the PzIV is weak until it finally gets the L/70.

The game really begins at Tier 5. The matchmaker is kinder to tier 5, and the PzIV, KV and M4 all eventually become very nice tanks.

Generally yes, tier 4 is naff but I actually flew through the Pz III. I think it helped I had elited the Leopard which shares a number of modules. And the T-28 gets a bad rap, I find the armor acceptable and the 85mm gun awesome.

A-20 is the worst tier 4 I reckon. All the tier 4 light tanks suffer from being eligible to being put by matchmaker in much higher tier T7+ matches so it can be a “scout”. Which is fine in theory but just equals a frustrating, violent and fiery death in practice.

If he’s using the 122 mini-derp, you can take out even T-54s with a little help. Panthers are definitely killable with that gun, though two solo is very impressive. The KV-13 can take a licking and keep on ticking, which I’ve come to appreciate.

These new tech tree changes are kind of baffling. I have a DB that is maybe 2/3s the way to a Panther. I don’t want to grind that much but it looks like if I don’t, I’m going to be missing out on a free Panther II. Either way, with the new tree the DB is no longer a very useful stage on the tech tree. Overall I agree that the new tech trees are a bit of a kludge.

The also have not given any indication, have they, as to when we can expect the other premium tanks? Some of those on those tech tree diagrams are truly odd and interesting.

reviewing the upcoming changes, it looks like I can abandon the very unfun Pz38(t) NA forever, as I have already unlocked Pz IV. I was aiming for the VK3601(H), so that still comes off Pz IV. I can then bring the Pz III out of retirement if I want to unlock PZ III/ IV and continue down panther line.

Big question now is which German heavy tank line? Go the Tiger / Tiger II -> E100 or Tiger § / VK 4502 -> Maus?

It will be interesting to see what the assessment of the two lines is. I assume one line is more defensive oriented and the other is less armoured but better gunned.

Yes, that’s exactly what I heard from the devs. Maus = armor, E-100 = damage.

Yes you will but not any time soon - according to devs, USSR HT line changes will come after the French tanks are released. Assuming the French are coming in September, USSR HT’s will come some time in October or November.

I had the 122 mini derp. I ran into one first and danced around the corner of the castle, and landed all of my shots while a couple of the first panther’s missed and a couple were eaten by my tracks. while I was fighting the first, the second arrived, and thought he would flank me by going around the castle. At this point I was “ahead” of the first panther and opted to be aggressive and I pushed forward and while I took more damage, I was able to finish him before the second one came up behind.

As for the second, the entire fight was dancing around the wreck of the first panther. He never landed a single hit on me. I suspect he was using autoaim only, while I was gunsight aiming to clip the front or back of his tank. I know (from the damage dealt) that two of my shots to the rear end of his tank penetrated.

It was funny, when I saw that the enemy had two panthers and that I was the only tank that went top, I figured I was screwed. My heart sank when I saw the first one, and when I started to fight the second I was resigned to dying (had only 300-400hp) but was just hoping to do as much damage as I could. I was pretty psyched with the outcome. :)

Very nice! Heck even in a Panther II, I’d expect going up against 2 Panthers would mean you were screwed big time.

I have one of each taking up space in my garage for exactly that reason, as well as an elited IS-4 that will grab me another slot + free tank.

I forgot to save my KV-3 when I bought my IS but I guess if I have the coin lying around I can rebuy one for free slots when they get around to doing it.

shit the layer of dust on that kv3 will be so thick by the time the USSR HT adjustment comes, i might as well have sold it and put another tank in its slot. ah well.

grinding cash has become the theme of the game for me. this goes quick enough with a bevy of tier 6 tanks to choose from, such as a t-34-85, a su-100, an easy-8 etc. still. getting the millions required to go from tier 6 to 7 multiple times sucks.

For me the best thing is to just stop looking at the research screen and focus on having fun in fun tanks, which the tier 6 cash cows are without fail. slowly but surely (and sometimes not quite slow! made 30k runs last night!) the cash rolls in and hey, another tank for the stable :D

Agree totally on the A-20. T-28, imo, is one of the(if not, the) best tank of its tier. Very fast acceleration, powerhouse of a gun. Yes, it has very weak armor so dont stop moving for long. I tend to keep tanks I like and play with them frequently - both the T-28 and PzIII are in my garage. The PzIII won’t be for everyone, and you have to be very careful not to get in a slogging match with anyone. But if you use it to flank, you’ve got a very fast, small silhouette, target that can be very irritating to your opponent - particularly if they’re in a TD or slow traverse tank.

Sound advice, but I am so much a loot whore that I have to have that leveling up carrot in front of me. I love adding new stuff to my tanks or getting a new tank; even when the matches are fun they’re not as fun if I’m stuck grinding to 100k+ experience for the next vehicle.
