Bah, I don’t think there is all that much to win percentage, especially with some tanks that can’t really control the outcome of the battle that well. I kind of wonder what kind of win percentage idle tanks might get, especially at different tiers.

I’m sure my stats would be better if I didn’t let friends try the game on my account or suicide charge when I have bad maps or bad matchmaking, but I can’t complain overall.
Battles:1317
Wins:49%
Losses:49%
Average exp:235
I tend to be the person who is the first to die after the suicide runs are done. I blame my impatience and the fact that I always see a better place for my tank destroyer just ahead of wherever I’m sitting.

I’m at:
Games Played: 3,795
Victories: 1,928 (51%)
Defeats: 1,779 (47%)
Battles Survived: 800 (21%)
As with stridergg I’ve got some very solid top-tier medium records:
T-54 51W/38L (55%/41%)
T-44 161W/117L (57%/41%)
I wonder if it’s more a matter of being high-tier rather than being mediums though. Presumably the higher tier vehicles can have more of an impact than the lower-tier ones on the final battle outcome.

I am sure high tier helps (as does the skill and experience you’ve, hopefully, acquired on the way to high tiers, which, looking at some dumbasses in the game, is not always the case) but as I mentioned my best record is on the awful JgdPz IV (tier 6). JagdPanther, KV-3 and SU-100 are not far behind, while IS-3 is pretty average and IS-4 is just embarassing.
IMO it has more to do with the particular tank, how it clicks with you and the kind of playstyle/role you think it’s supposed to have. Sometimes you get it right and sometimes (like with me and high tier Soviet heavies) you don’t. :) Looks like, with tanks, I am more of a ambusher/flanker kind of guy as opposed to a brawler.
Hehe, I am one step away from making up people’s psycological profiles based on their WoT stats. :) Time to take a break.
Tah dah!

Okay this is annoying. I’m in my KV. Top of the list for once. I say to my “team”, ‘Backup plz’. And I get:
For what?
Go get em.
Backup my ass.
And the like. So I rush the center take out a tank and of course, everyone on the other team is gunning for me and I’m blown away. I guess it’s clan time. these PUGs suck lately.
Well, I admit that if I were to see that chat message, that wouldn’t really be sufficient information. That, and I have a knee-jerk reaction to texty stuff.
I’ve never really seen a plan work. Most people scatter to where they normally go out of habit. If I’m in a medium or heavy, I’ll wait 20 seconds to see how the herd sorts itself and try to fill in a gap.
It’s just as aggravating when you go help an ally by outflanking an enemy tank and then they crawl back behind a rock and let you die. Other people, huh?
This. If you want backup in a random game, you have to wait to see where other people are going first.

Since I posted that I’ve been playing a bit. Seems I’ve gotten my win percentage up from 44% to 46%. It may have something to do with finally getting the 107 for my KV. And maybe because I’ve decided to be more careful about having my ass hanging out when all around me are clueless.
I still like the game. But I no longer expect people to cover me when I’m on the top. In fact, when that happens, I snipe. As well my RAM II is great for killing things.

One problem I’ve seen with “plans” is when a team actually follows them, they sometimes cause excessive herding. For example, one game on the Cliff’s (lighthouse) map, someone came up with the plan that the team should go down the valley. So 12 of our tanks proceeded down the valley leaving exactly 3 to cover the rest of the map. In this case we actually won since those three tanks (including moi) did a kick-ass job :-) But IMO the more common effect of herding is to lead to a loss, since most routes only allow a limited number of tanks to effectively engage and excessive numbers of tanks on a front end up being somewhat wasted.
You’ve hit on a very important point–a choke point, as it were! Many spots on these maps are simply only big enough for a limited number of tanks. Any more and they’re just targets for arty, or get in each others way. OTOH, there are many spots where two or at most three well-handled tanks can pull a Thermopylae and really stall the enemy.
Admitedly, I have no idea what map you were playing, etc. but, to be honest, sitting in a top tank doesn’t really mean you can (or should) drive into the center of a map and sit there open to “everyone on the other team”. If your position allows everyone on the other team to shoot at you, 2 (or 5) low tier mediums playing backup are not going to save you.
I’ve never really seen a plan work.
The thing is only the simpliest “plans” will work in random games. Stuff like “Rushing middle at 12:30” in Malinovka or “Meds take the hill with us” in Himmelsdorf or the aforementioned rush through the valley in Cliff (or Lakesville). The later two are harder to pull off btw because, as mentioned by ydejin, they require some defense to stall the enemy. There are only handful of maps where this kind of planing is really possible (and I think I mentioned all of them).
And those simple plans have to be communicated before the countdown expires because, most of the time, once people start moving, there is no way to make them change directions even if it’s just 15 seconds into the fight and there is nobody on another flank. Stupid lemmings.
Another annoying thing about general population is that most people most of the time go to the position that is EASIER to defend (or attack). Individually, it’s understandable, but when every fucking one of them goes there, it’s just retarded.

Actually the reason I rushed in that particular case was out of anger. It was more of a, screw you, move than a serious attempt to win a game by myself. I knew I’d get pounded. I didn’t care. Shortly after I stopped playing for the evening.
My KV is a killing machine… I regularly kill 4-6 enemy tanks per match. Amusingly my win ratio is still about 50:50 despite my stellar servcie to my team ;)
Either way it’s a money maker.
I thought I’d grind the M3 Lee since I’m maining USSR and the Lee leads to 3 different US lines. Unfortunately, I hate the M3 Lee. I’ll probably give up on it after the T1 Heavy.
