Well I have a long work day today so probably won’t get to play until late, if at all, by which time I suspect the patch will have been implemented and servers back up. I got my Pershing and new tracks and engine, so it has the basic 90mm; just need the turret and the upgraded 90mm.

I’m actually getting within spitting distance of my M40/M43, too, as well as my IS-3, but no way I’ll have the credits to buy them.

Yay, got the Kholobanov’s medal yesterday (win alone against five or more enemies) on my Ferdi. Ended up killing 7 enemies, got Top Gun, Steel Wall, Wittmann and Kholobanov. It was constant cheering from my (dead) teammates the last couple of minutes. :) What a great vehicle.

A word of advice about the Ferdi. Well and all tanks, of course. As most of you know, when forced to fight an enemy tank face to face, most tanks shouldput themselves in a “diamond” position relating to the enemy. This way enemy shells have to penetrate your armor at a steep angle instead of going through at 90 degrees. Not only this increases your effective armor, it also increases the chance the enemy will get a ricochet.

The problem with TD’s is that due to lack of turret they can’t really position themselves like that and keep shooting. All they can do is turn very slightly. Not the Ferdi. Its gun has such a great horizontal movement, you can sit in an almost perfect 45 degree position relating to the enemy and keep shooting.

There are probably other TD’s that can do it too (Marder IIRC), just keep this in mind when you get yourself in a situation like this.

BTW Jagdtiger can’t do that, its gun’s horizontal angle is very small, so it needs to face the enemy almost perfectly to shoot at it. One of the main reasons Jagdtiger, well, sucks a little. :)

BTW the above does not apply to IS-3 as its front armor is naturally sloped in a diamond-like fashion. IS-3 has to keep straight to the enemy, any angles will actually decrease the slope.

I really hate the way the devs word their patch notes, not only it’s not clear whether it’s a buff or a nerf but they also use different units of measurement (reload time in patch notes vs rpm in the game). If they are trying to hide what’s going on, it’s stupid - people will eventually look it up, convert and post everywhere, so what’s the point.

Anyway, I am glad that at least Ferdi’s top gun isn’t getting nerfed, it gets slightly buffed - reload time improves from ~10.9 sec to 10.5. Not sure about other German TD’s as I don’t have them anymore and it’s hard to figure out the exact gun stats unless you have the vehicle in your garage.

Slightly confused that the new tanks don’t make previously “golded” tanks ungolded. But when you play them, the xp seems to accumulate as expected.

55k xp to unlock M24 from M5. Sigh. And the M5 isn’t a great earner of xp in any case. At least I still had my T46 going, so unlocking T50 line will be relatively quick (and have infact already unlocked T50, but don’t have credits for it yet)

Wow - epic shot from my SU-152’s derp 152mm just one shotted an E-100. Fired at the side tank about 1/3 of the way from the back as it came around a rock on el-halluf from about 70meters and he went up like a roman candle.

Also, was bummed to see that the new chinese premium tank was 7500 gold. I don’t like to spend that much on this game :(

It is going to take a looong time to unlock some of those T5 lights.

Stick the short 75mm howitzer gun on the M5, I found it does much better then.

[li]Get in a match where you are top of ladder (Tier 2/3/4) = one shot pwning of most adversaries (got 7 kills one match with M5)[/li][li]Get into higher tier battles where you are the “scout” and you can still actually readily damage the big guys. 5mm gun on the Leopard is useless in that scenario. (Of course you should still not be taking on that Lowe front on - scout/flank is the order of the day)[/li][li]Subjectively, the match maker seemed to be kinder to the M5 (and T46) than the Leopard. Leopard always seemed to be running with the big boys.[/li][/ul]
I’ll have to check my stats, but I did feel the M5 was a better earner on average than the Leopard.

Tried this out for the first time last night. I really liked the game, however I don’t understand the matchmaking. Why does it put tier 10 tanks in the same battle with tier 1 tanks? There were 13000 people on last night, your telling me it couldn’t make battles that have the same quality tanks in them so things were a little more fair? It’s not very fun when a faster, stronger tank destroys me and there is nothing I can do about it.

You were in a battle with tier 10 tanks in your tier 1 tank? That’s not right… were you in a platoon with someone?

That said, this game is not fairness for the individual. Sometimes you will be the low man on the totem pole and have to make the best of it. Don’t worry, it builds character. ;)

And blood pressure.

AFAIK the only way a T1 tank could be in with T10 tanks is platooning–sometimes people find it amusing to platoon a Maus with a Loltractor.

I thought I was, but now you guys have me doubting. I will have to check again when I play tonight. When you click on standard battle and then the screen pops up showing the queue and the grid saying how many of each type of tank and how many of each tier, is that in reference to the game you are about to join?

Ah no… thats just the mix of tanks currently in queue for battle. You should not get matched with tanks more than 3 tiers above you, and at tier 1 I think you can only be in battles with tier 1 and 2 tanks.

Ok, I guess the problem is I suck then. Good to know it’s just me and not the matchmaking.

Has everyone seen this? Revised trees in 7.0. looks like I’ll be getting 2 tanks and 2 garage slots. Cool.

• KV will be separated into KV-1 and KV-2.
Players who have a KV in their garage at the time of the revision will have it replaced with a KV-1. The KV’s crew will be trained for the KV-1.
Additionally players who have researched KV-2’s turret for KV will get a KV-2 with an extra garage slot and the KV-2 will be assigned a 100% crew.
Undistributed experience from KV can be transferred to either KV-2 or to KV-1 on demand.
No additional refunds are planned.

• KV-3 moved to tier 7 and the introduction of T-150.
Players who have a KV-3 in their garage at the time of the revision will get a KV-3 in its new status with its existing module and research setup and its old crew. Additionally they will also get a T-150 with a stock setup, extra garage slot, and 100% crew.
No additional refunds are planned.

Yeah, this information has been out for months (literally). I’ve had a KV-3 gathering dust in my garage since May, waiting for the free slot. It’s taken a lot longer than I thought it would. Between my KV, my KV-3, and my IS-4, I’ll score 3 free slots and 3 free tanks.

Yes this information is 6 months old ;)

Is KV-1 going to be the same thing as a KV? Also, iirc, this change is scheduled for Q1 2012?

KV-1 will be worse because it wont have the derp turret and its guns, that will be the KV-2.

Q4 2011 according to this: World of Tanks team is glad to present the first details on the upcoming 7.0 update, planned for release in November.

Sorry for posting something so old.

I guess I need to hurry and get my KV-3 so I can skip a tier of grinding. I’m pretty close right now.

Is the idea that the KV-2 is going to play pretty similarly to my fully upgraded KV, then?

I bypassed the KVs entirely by going up the medium line and doing the KV-13 crossover. Played a lot of KV in the beta, so didn’t really want to do it again.
