I wanted to answer this better.
It’s kinda like the end game content in any other MMO out there. A few people (clan’s leadership) invest a lot of their time into it - organizing stuff, learning tactics, keeping current, studing enemies, dealing with the inside the guild stuff, getting involved in the clan politics (alliances, pacts, etc.), planning our advancements/defenses on the strategic map. And so on. This probably does feel like work, I don’t envy them but than again, some people enjoy this kind of stuff and like doing it, so more power to them. :)
And then there is the rest of us. :) We don’t have any strict schedule or anything. We get online when we want/can. When clan fights start appearing, we pop into the voice server (we use RaidCall), see who is needed where, fight some, play some Random or Company fights in between and log off when you feel like it.
We are not a large clan, we fight probably 8-10 fights a day (mostly landing), sometimes more, sometimes less, depending on the situation and how the landing competion goes. Of those games, I play maybe 2 or 3, sometimes less or none at all if I feel like playing alone.
Like with WoW (or any other) raids, you really need to know your role and understand the general strategy in the fight. It’s not that hard and it comes to you pretty fast. It also helps IMMENSELY in Random fights.
So it definitely doesn’t feel like work to me but I am sure people who chose to be more involved are probably investing some pretty significant time there.
Do you take recruits? Is having a max tier vehicle a requirement?
Yes, we do and, no, having a max tier vehicle is not a requirement. But… :) There is another requirement though - ability to speak Russian. The clan started as a group of friends of the same (obviously Russian) origin and grew quite a bit when friends of the friends started to join. All communication within the clan (voice or otherwise) is done in Russian, which makes it not that fun of an option for people speaking other languages. We’ve had a few but they eventually drifted away as it’s hard to feel involved when you don’t understand what’s going on. :(
Understood - Thanks. The little I know would not really be enough to help me in that kind of scenario I don’t think.
A team from my clan won the IGN Prime Tournament!
I guess their team’s pretty stupid name (Starry Night), which was a theme for lots of jokes in the clan, did not handicap them. Maybe even helped them by confusing their enemies. :)

Very exciting. The guys said the fights were very tough but lots of adrenaline and fun.

World of Tanks boxed edition is on special at Impulse:
http://www.impulsedriven.com/wot
The store page is horribly unclear, just saying “you get some stuff” rather than specifics, but if it is the same as the boxed edition you get:
1 T2 Light Tank
1 week Premium account
1,050,000 Credits
1,800 Gold
for $9.99. Seems like OK value - 1800 gold + 1 week premium (1250 gold) is $14.95 worth of gold on its own purchased directly from world of tanks, plus you get the T2 premium (don’t know which one) and 1 million credits.
EDIT - Oh whoops, T2 doesnt mean Tier 2 ;-) It means this American tank - http://wiki.worldoftanks.com/T2_Light_Tank cant say that is super compelling, the Tier 3 Locust or the German T-15 would be more interesting.
can you buy that package and add it to an existing account? the T2 would at least come with a free slot, even if I hate the tank.
Just an FYI: World of Tanks is having Battle of Moscow Specials this weekend, from October 14th (starting at 4 AM PDT) to October 17th (ending at 4 AM PDT). Some tanks will be half price and earn double credits. PzKpfw B2 740 and Matilda premium tanks are also half off. Also:
[ul]
[li]5x XP for the first victory each day (on each of your tanks)[/li][li]Enlarging barracks are half off (150 gold)[/li][li]100% crew training is half off (100 gold per member)[/li][li]Retraining crew to 100% primary skill will be half off (100 gold)[/li][li]Training a crew bought with a tanks to 100% also half off (100 gold)[/li][/ul]
Be aware that if you win your first victory before 4 AM PDT on October 14th, you will not be eligible for the 5x XP till after 5 PM PDT time.

Equally important: Can you buy the package and wait to apply it to an existing account? Adding time to the back of a subscription is a lot less valuable than adding time when I know I won’t be too busy to play.
These tanks will be half price and earn double credits:

PzKpfw IV
PzKpfw VI Tiger §

Edit: Impulse so don’t know.
So silly they can’t synchronize this with the first victory daily reset. It’s basically encouraging people not to play Thursday night. Guess I’ll be on my Lowe.
Hmm. I’m already going down the Russian medium line and the Russian TD line. Maybe it’s time to play a few games to start down the Russian heavy line for that half-price T-28.
It’s $19.99 when I click on that link. Which isn’t that great.

I’d go so far as to call it “terrible.”

I just bought me a pzkw V Tiger. Put in 50% crew because gold training is cheap this weekend. took it for a spin totally stock. its a terribad tank. slow. sluggish. undergunned. badly armored. but the round was won, and my tiger lived. lol.
in due time its gonna rock tho. powerful engine and the long 88 ftw. lusting after the king tiger something fierce.
I’ve been in my Tiger now for a while, as I’m pushing the Russian heavy line harder. With all of its upgrades, it’s a reasonable heavy for its tier, and the long 88 is a good weapon. But damn it’s still slow no matter what engine is in it. I agree the KT looks wicked, and the E-75 just as cool.

Thats cause its max speed it artificially restricted for some stupid reason people still can’t explain.
I got sidetracked playing my SU-85. Oh, how I love that vehicle.
