Nah, I don’t think extra 25 mm is such a big deal. I know where to shoot IS-4s and E-75s and don’t really have problems penetrating them with the short 105 mm.

Alright, I’ll give it a try.

Having recently gotten the KT I have the starter 88 or the 105. They are so close in stats is one better than the other in any meaningful way?

Its not the penetration, its being able to do enough damage to scare them away rather than having them laugh at you and trade shots.

Apparently I am currently chat-banned in WoT. For using the F word. In a game with a chat filter.

Are you allowed to shoot team-killers on sight? I once saw someone whose name showed in blue and after he started shooting at one of our team-members I killed him. I don’t think I was penalized in any way.

Yep, blue-names are fair game. No penalties.

That’s weird. I guess a mod was in the game, or someone reported you? But still, seems…strange and kind of bizarre.

I much preferred the stock KT Tiger gun for its money making capabilities. It has a ridiculously good money/dmg ratio. Most of the ~3million credits needed for my e75 came from just farming the KT.

Personally, out of ~200games or so with the KT, there were only 3-4 instances where having the better pen would have made a difference. If a IS4 faces up to you, you’re pretty much screwed already… doubly screwed if it’s a E75. I find the 25mm improvement to be really questionable as better guns (Is4’s S70) bounces with some regularity off the E75’s lower’s glacis. A KT would have no chance against a competent E75 driver in a face off. As for assaulting the other tier 9, the T34, well, the stock gun can (sadly for the T34) pen it pretty well frontally.

Also I feel the matchmaker takes your gun into account when its doing its thing, and I feel I had many more favorable matches with the stock gun than the upgraded gun.

You should’ve used an afkbot you’d never get in trouble for that. ;)

It doesn’t and the final gun tears through IS4s like they aren’t there. E75s are tougher, but you can easily penetrate and hurt them with it.

Plus the extra damage more than makes up for the cost of shells. I don’t think I ever lost money with the top gun unless I was one shotted by arty right away or something similar.
I lost money fairly often when I was rolling with the long 88.

Both 105 mm guns on KT (short and long 105) do exactly the same damage - 320.

The only difference between them is that the long one has 25 mm more penetration, a bit more accuracy and a bit slower reload. IMO losing 1.5 sec on reload and getting 25 mm of penetration is not worth it, especially since you have to “pay” 43K of exp for it.

Personally I always think paying for accuracy is worth it because it may mean the difference between hitting or missing, or hitting the soft spot vs hitting the heavily armored spot. the accuracy would be worth it more for me than the penetration value.

I’ve used both, and I much prefer the gun with the extra penetration. I’m using it right now, in fact, and the number of times I hear “it bounced!” has dropped by at least 75%. 25 more penetration can make an enormous difference in effectiveness.

It’s a similar improvement for the IS-3’s best gun as well.

To a certain extend, yes. It’s highly subjective, though, and depends a lot on what you are used to and on the way you are driving your tank. (BTW, don’t discard the aim time stat, in some cases (when it’s high) it’s more important than accuracy). I’ve had about 500 fights in Ferdi with its 0.31 acc gun and similar number in IS-4 with its 0.35 gun. So having the short 105 mm gun with 0.32 brings me a lot closer to my Ferdi’s “comfort zone” and 0.01 doesn’t matter that much.

Again, there is no doubt that the long 105 mm on the KT is better. If you enjoy driving the KT and don’t mind doing it for extra 50-60 fights, totally go with the long 105 mm. If, however, your goal is getting the E-100 asap (for example, you need it for clan wars, considering the changes in the next patch), then skipping this gun makes sense and will not affect your performance THAT much. That’s all I am saying.

It doesn’t quite work that way. With the long 105 on the KT, you’ll earn more XP per match than with the other guns (I certainly have), so it partially pays for itself. Add in the fact that you can immediately mount the same gun on the E75 and thereby increase its XP per match number before you unlock the top turret and gun (a long process, since they also require the enhanced suspension), and I think investing the XP on the long 105 doesn’t slow you down much if any.

When I last had a KT it was in beta before the E-series were added, so the KT’s follow up was the 4502. As much as the 4502 was (deservedly) maligned, I didn’t want to show up to tier 9 even more undergunned. So that was why I researched the long 105, and I felt it was worth it for the same reasons Dave mentions. The E-75 is in that slot now but it’s the same boat - over 110k xp grind on that tier 9 tank until you get the top gun, between suspension (required), turret (required), and the gun itself. If you add that to the 163k grind to the E-75 itself… well, I’d personally rather spend the 46k on the long 105 than run that 275k without it. :)

Also, ammo cost is by caliber, so the long and short 105 have the same ammo cost. Each bounce or miss costs you money…

After having played over 13,000 battles in World of Tanks, I am taking a break. It’s been nice.

I got mixed up in the posting and thought we were talking about the long 88.

The long 105 is still more than worth it since you have to have the damned thing on the E-75 anyway and its always better to research something in a lower tier. The short 105 is viable, but the long is a lot better. I wouldn’t want to roll up in an E-75 with the short gun and try to grind all the way to an E-100 with it.

Just got the 107 on my SU-85. I’m guessing that this is a worthwhile improvement.
