I shall miss you dearly my old friend. sniffle
On the bright side, I do love my new E-75. It feels like when I first got the T29. “Oh yeah, I can take some hits and blow some people up. Bring it suckers.” I do not fear T10s now. Maus? No fear. T30? No fear? IS-7? Okay, a little fear there. Oh, and for anyone contemplating the T34? DO NOT GET. Or if you do, don’t bother grabbing any unnecessary upgrades. It’s a giant pile of dung molded into the shape of a tank. Expect to get tracked four times a game and die an inglorious death. Apparently, the only way to play it at all decently is to be a wingman to an actual heavy. Maybe park sideways on a bridge before you die to slow down an enemy advance.
I did have an interesting game with my T50-2 (perhaps the most hated of tanks besides the '59). Malinovka, ie ‘Campikova’. We started in the south, four arties for each side, top tiers being around 8. They’ve got more TDs and mediums than we do. With the medium advantage, they’ll likely gain the hill and with the number of arties, any light is going to be of supreme importance. They’ve got a Chaffee and T-50, my side has, well, me. Gulp. No pressure then.
I take note of all this as the countdown starts and try to figure out where to go. I am so not going up the hill only to die in thirty seconds or zoom across the field to do the same, so what to do, what to do… Hmmmm… maybe go somewhere that has occasionally had success and then… aha! And if it doesn’t work, well, at least I’ve tried something wacky and found out it’s stupid rather than brilliant. I race around to the right of the lake and take cover in a bush facing between the church and their flag. In fact, the bush at E7 here.
There’s the usual initial exchange of shots and their T-50 races to the buildings. Fortunately, our heavies have actually gotten to cover instead of trying to exchange fire. Yay for our heavies! Lowe and IS3 and two T29s I salute you. One of our mediums ends up sacrificing himself to get rid of the T-50. I salute you too T-34. A T34-85 and a Pz4 race behind me to go up the hill.
Back to me because I’m the most important. With my crew at 100% camo and the camo net draped around me I should be safe unless I do something dumb like start taking shots and my optics should… YES! I can spot them coming up to the church and halfway to the top of the hill. Oh glorious day.
Pz3/4, and a T34-85 go by with a few scattered shots from our arty. Then a Sherman, then a Slugger, then both their 59s show up, crimminy, is their entire team going up the hill? Not a bad idea if they can make the sweep and enter the woods en masse. So what’s left at base on their side… Ferdi and T25? 28? whatever. The 59s take a hit or two as they go. Oh yes. I love you arty. More arty, hit more! Who do we have covering the woods… ahhh! Our Wolverine and Sherman. Maybe they’ll slow down their sweep, maybe a heavy over there would help too. Oh well.
Anything else coming up the hill? A moment’s pause. Nope? Time to either be a hero or a goat. GOGOGO!!! The T59s are past the church and halfway up, a battle has just begun between their entire hill force and our two tanks so everyone should be distracted. I’ve got the Lead-Lease Oil (+5% engine power) and hit 5 on my keyboard to activate the speed governor (+10% engine power). I leap out of my hiding place with the crack of a whip, hitting 50 km/hr in a matter of seconds. Faster damn you, faster! 60 kph… I make the corner of the lake at 70kph and turn to head straight for the far NW corner of the map.
I consider doing the serpentine thing but think, “Screw it, my only chance to make it is a fricking power dive, shocking them into immobility.” Go, GO, GO! Anyone new showing up on my map yet… T25 by the east rock, but he’s not turning. Good. I make the backside of their lake and settle into the depression there, still heading for the corner. Oh yeah, oh yeah, I’m gonna make it now BOOM!!! Oh crap, okay, I’m not hurt. I hate you arty!
I’m at the corner, I’m at the corner, neener, neener! Well, look what we have here. Hello mister enemy arty. Thanks for all four of you to clustering in one spot. BWAHAHAHAH!!! Scatter like the rats that you are. There is going to be absolutely no time for me to CONTROL click the mini-map indicating their location so I hope someone is paying attention. Why is there no time? Because I’m driving like a hyperactive child hopped up on pez.
A polite cough from my gun as I go in, hitting one square. Left, right, circle that one. I have no time to check and see which ones they are, all I care about is if they’re aiming at me. pop another hit. pop another hit BOOM! Missed me sucker! Left, fake right, another left, circle right. Stay alive, our arty will find you! pop that one goes down BooBoom! Yay! Our arty is active. Now I’m driving like a hyperactive child hopped up on pez dripped in adrenalchrome. Left, half circle, right. pop Don’t slow down or the clowns will get me. Right, right, fake left, pop, right, circle that one BOOM, figure eight through those two, pop BOOM Okay, that had to be our S-51, left, right, circle left, can’t catch me, nyah! That one is down to low hps, one circle, two circles, head towards it, BLAM! Crap, I’m hit. Hell, I’m tracked. Repair kit, go, Go, GO. What the hell hit me? There’s a lot more red around than there should be. pop Hahhahaha, got you. Right, left, hey, there’s a big one. Must be the Object 212, I’ll hide behind you.
I pace back and forth beside the Object, popping him several times. I’m protected by the corners of the map and take a glance at what’s after me. After the look I want a hug from my mom. The Ferdinand and T28 have come down the slope and a Type 59 has shown up and is trying to box me in. I think I ticked them off. At this point, the explosions are relentless, our arty, their arty, HE from the TDs, all are throwing dirt in the air and one of them takes out the 212. Hahahahah! The 59 almost has an angle on me. Time to scoot and see how much longer I can last.
Vroom! Left around the 212, straight at the Ferdi, then cut right, splitting it and the T28, BaWhomp! Wow, I’m still alive? Hahahaha, 2 hp left, that’s awesome, I’m now a hyperactive kid hopped up on adrenalchrome soaked pez in a movie by Micheal Bay. Circle around the T28 and pop it as I go by, everyone’s got an angle on me now, it’s only a matter of time, cut right, left, dead.
Wow, okay, whew. They’re only two arties down I think and a bunch injured. I did a good job. Now what the hell has been happening since I started my square dance of doom? Looks like half our arty has relocated to behind the flag building, that’s good, and what’s this? Ooooooooh yeah, I love you mister heavies! They’re 90% across the field. Every single blessed one of them. We’ve still got one medium in the woods so their sweep has stalled or something, who knows? All I know is, they’re about to lose. Three of our heavies take position behind the rocks on the N side. One on either side of the west rock, one on the east, and the Lowe heads straight for their flag. As their TDs crest the slope, they’re met with a hail of large caliber cannon shells. Our Lowe dies bravely shooting from the open but lasting long enough for the T28 to die and the 59 to be tracked and boomed into oblivion. The other heavies advance from the rocks, take out the Ferdi and wait, facing the hill.
Tick, tick, tick. 50% capped as the first of their mediums shows up and is instantly vaporized. An arty shell hits one of the heavies but nothing else does as we finish capping. Yay for us!
