Actually, no - still funny.

I think those highly mobile, fast firing tanks will lend themselves very well for brave and aggressive tactics (if not slightly suicidal). Really looking forward to grinding them out.

That sentence just makes me cringe. The older I get(and i’m starting to get there), the less time i want to waste ‘getting to the good stuff’. In a game that earns its money from the sale of in-game product, just make it all(optionally) for sale and let me decide which currency, time or money, i want to spend.

You do realize that the French jokes are largely a result of George W. Bush’s administration and right-wing commentators trying to discredit the French because they refused to go along with what turned out to be a disastrous decision to invade Iraq? See Freedom Fries for example. Nice work carrying water for Rush Limbaugh and his lot. Rather ironic that American’s new found popularity of attacking the French military is a direct result of one of the worst foreign policy decisions by the United States in at least a half-century. pyrhic indeed. Given your name its rather ironic to have you of all posters posting this.
Lafayette is no doubt turning in his grave. Or has it become inconvenient to teach about Lafayette or France’s critical role in the creation of the United States.
Jokes about French military prowess occurred way before Bush, you know.
Anyway, my IS7 was one-shotted in a city fight by an artillery. I’m betting that never happens to an E-100 or Maus.

Yes, but they rose considerably in popularity and were pushed broadly by the right-wing in the run up to the war.
In addition to the Freedom Fries embarrassment, there was also, for example the “French Military Victories” google bomb which came out in the Iraq War runup and which completely ignores the fact that Napolean was master of Europe for far longer than Germany was in WW2 (no French military victories, what bullshit). We don’t see many embarrassing jokes about German Military incompetence in spite of the fact that strategically the screwed up badly twice in the last century. I suppose in Germany’s defense they did have the coolest military toys.
There was just a huge uptake of attacks on France’s military abilities during the run-up to the Iraq war. And it was a direct attempt to discredit them for their refusal to support the Bush administration’s desire to invade Iraq.

If you have trouble with simple counting, use the following mneumonic device: One, comes before two, comes before sixty, comes after twelve, comes before six-trillion, comes after five-hundred-and-four. This will make your earlier counting difficulties seem like no big deal.

New-found? I guess if you consider something people have been doing non-stop since the 40’s “new”.
Yeah, I get that’s not historically accurate, but the first french military joke I remember was comparing the Spathi in Star Control to them. It’s been going on for a while.
Much of the anti-French stuff though stems more from the mid/late-1960s era when DeGaulle pulled the French out of the military structure of NATO, developed their nuclear capability, and generally refused to be a lapdog of American and British interests. While the French did lose in 1940, the Free French fought well with the Allies, and were recognized generally as solid soldiers during WWII. After the war, the French lost two colonial conflicts in Indo-China and Algeria, but hey, we didn’t do so hot in Vietnam, either, and while many folks questioned France’s strategic acumen, their basic combat qualities weren’t really denigrated at that point.
I think a lot of the anti-French stuff comes from historical Anglo-French animosities, rather than anything organic to the American experience with France.
Anyhow, in the universe of WoT, it matters not at all, as this game has about as much in connection with reality as unicorns and leprechauns.
French tanks sound like an interesting concept and will certainly shake up the game a bit but 30 mm side armor at tier 8-10… They will blow up from HE fire from ANY tank. Any medium or even something like T50 or something.
On the other hand it’s kind of like the VK36 with konich (sp?) gun, which were a lot of fun.
I bet these French tanks with cartridge loading will be fun to play with a platoon helping each other to cover sides. Plus 3 of these can fuck up a lot of enemies real fast. :)
I think I am going to try them.
I don’t know much about French tanks, apart from all those jokes… ahem
But here’s something interesting: Renault FT. I think this resembles the USSR MS-1 quite a bit.
Myself, I’ve been going down the USSR Tank Destroyer line, and currently am on the ISU-152. The BL-10 (top USSR TD gun) is a MONSTER. I use AP shells 100% of the time, and apart from some insane ricochets, it deals excellent damage.
The US TDs Wolverine and Slugger are a hell of a lot of fun, too.
Does anyone here play on the EU server?
The new replay feature is crazy good. Files shockingly small to boot. Also noticed significantly less arty on last night, CB and the income nerf seems to be having a major impact.
I’m on the EU server as jeansberg. I should start playing more again.
I haven’t played in a month or more (I’m still waiting for the revamp of the Soviet tree to really get back into the game, since my garage is clogged with vehicles that will eventually give me free slots and tanks), so I’m not totally up on the recent changes. What is “CB”?

“Counter-battery,” I believe. Tracers are back in on the Russian server.
Ah, thanks, I should have figured that out for myself. Counterbattery is definitely a good thing–is it present on the US server, or just the Russian one?
