So the French tanks have these magazine loaded guns for high burst damage, but then a really long magazine reload? They’re also fast, and have weak side armor?

It sounds like they’re not suited to be front-liners but more like highly mobile sniper tanks++.

7.0 looking good. I’m back to loving this game.

7.0 looking very good. If you have the hardware for it, be shure to turn on the new shiny such as anti aliasing. vewy pwetty indeed :D

Most of the new camo’s suck. ugly (especially the german ones) and stupidly expensive.

The new gun and engine for the T-44 freakin ROCK.

The damage models have been overhauled, and precise careful positioning and aiming pays off. I have been making a killing with my pershing and T-44.

Really looking forward to getting my hands on the french tanks, which today have entered public testing. They might even hit this side of the former iron curtain before new years!

Not a WoT player, but this news held my attention:

London, UK, Paris, FR and San Francisco, CA (21st December, 2011) - Wargaming.net, the award-winning videogame publisher and developer, announced today that the community of World of Tanks action MMO now exceeds 18 million players worldwide.

“We want to thank our game community for their support,” said Victor Kislyi, CEO of Wargaming.net. “Having so many devoted players is extremely rewarding, and our company will provide them with tons of new game content to enjoy.”

Since the release in Russia on August 12, 2010, World of Tanks has successfully entered the European, North American, and Asian markets. The title also holds the Guinness World Record for Most Players Online Simultaneously on One MMO Server.

The company is working hard on new updates for its highly-acclaimed title, providing constantly evolving game experience.

if you want to try it Turintur, i nicked a code off of rockpapershotgun that didnt work for my existing account, its new accounts only :( RPSHCR2E28-7DN5Y-2U2AY

I still think it’s funny they insist it’s an MMO when anyone with a brain knows it isn’t.

theres a great many people playin it. pretty much a massive number of em. yes the random pick up games are more counterstrike than WoW. the global conquest thing however is a true blue MMO.

its different from wow, rift, eve, swtor, and you’re saying it like thats a bad thing lol

Guild Wars also has a very similar structure to WoT, and they call that an MMO.

These days pretty much anything that has a huge number of people playing gets called an MMO, even if only a tiny fraction of those people can play together at any one time.

French tanks are out and some of them designs are wild!!

Also, check you launcher for a promo code link for a free tier 2 premium tank (and garage slot if all yours are full).

even if your slots arent full you get a free slot for the tetrarch. also another free slot for the french loltractor. so yay!

Yeah, the Froggies are interesting. I’ve run into a Tier IX and a Tier X heavy already–someone spent some gold!–and they hit HARD. The low-tier tanks, though, have Nerf guns, at least until the 75 on the AMX 40.

Thanks for the headsup on this. I still have WoT on hiatus while waiting for the revisions to the Soviet tree, but I didn’t want to miss out on the free slot.

you do know that slots are about as expensive as ummm… a pint of beer in a pub?

Sure, but free is free, and while one pint is cheap, a dozen start to add up. In fact, that’s the complete FTP games business model right there.

Is the free premium tank worth hanging onto?

Its a fun little bugger and great if you ever have someone start playing since its only Tier2 and you can jump in with em or whatever. I wouldn’t be too concerned if you didn’t like it and sold it though.

Edit: And the AMX40 just seems almost broken in its tier. Its a “light” tank, has more armor than the same tier heavy and a top speed of 50. And a bigger gun. Oh and its impervious to anything below its tier. I hate running into them with my AMX38. I can’t do anything. We had one in Himmelsdorf pull out in front of 4 of us. Killed us all we hit him probably 60 times. He was at 100% health when the last of us died. A tank just shouldn’t be able to vaporize 4 tanks just one tier below it and take absolutely no damage other than a broken track. He wasn’t even moving, he just sat there showing us his right front flank (not even his front!).

The AMX40 is tier 4 and the earliest heavies are tier 5. Do you mean more armor than tier 4 mediums?

edit

just looked at the tank stats. How is it that the tier 4 has more armor than any tank past it in it’s line? All of the lights, and then mediums, beyond it have less armor.

the drivers hatch, just beneath the turret on the front of the amx-40 is very weak. it is a tough bugger to tackle yea. love its looks too!

Over the holidays I played WoT on my sub-optimal laptop, trying to take advantage of daily quintuples on my non-Elite tanks. I realize that I was succumbing to an obvious psychological ploy, but I hadn’t played in a while, and I actually had a lot of fun, and did quite well. My brother also started playing after watching a game over my shoulder.

I don’t know what exactly has changed, but the new player experience is much worse than it was when I started playing. I remember when I upgraded into a (Tier 6) M6 Heavy and started fighting Tier 8 Heavies for the first time. Thanks to the holiday promotions my brother got into a M4 Sherman very quickly (perhaps too quickly) and was routinely thrown into matches with Tier 8 heavies. Yeah, I know the game is designed to have high variance in a match, but placing a Sherman into a match like that seems… excessive.
