Its the carrots in the gameplay, but also the tacticality of it and the pacing. And style. The way the game looks and sounds. The scale of the iron monsters and the impressive boom of their guns. Its still awes me.
Just a heads-up, the Type 59 will no longer be for sale starting on monday. Going to buy one tonight :D
Cynical move to sell more this weekend? Perhaps!
I hate those things. When I was driving my T-44, which is the same tier, they seemed to do everything better than I did. When I was up against them with other tanks, they were much harder to kill than the 44 and drove me nuts. I really think they blew the balancing on the 59’s, and their upcoming removal seems to indicate they agree.
I’d say they’ll bring them back in after 3 months or so. Gotta sell that gold :)
Also this tank is hella fun if you like meds, just based on 3 games with it

From a post on the official forum:

Just click on the picture of tanks and put your email in. Don’t check the box though or else you’ll get spammed. When you get the code just go to the main WoT website, log in and then click on your name and you’ll see a link called “Enter Promo Code”.
Just did it and got the free tank and slot. Worth it if only for the garage space.
Edit: For a T-127.
Their upcoming removal most likely indicates that the devs, knowing that there are too many Types out there, realized that their recent attempt to spread them out a bit (by opening 1 more combat tier to them) had failed.
Everyone owns the Type nowadays, I bet the balancer is having lots of fun trying to place them all into matches. :)
By the way, I remembered that old discussion from November and I just wanted to point out that the number of arty in matches has reduced DRASTICALLY.
They need to introduce a wider variety of premium tanks at higher tiers anyhow, I think. In my experience, you need a premium tank to work as your money maker, and the Lowe and Type 59 work exceedingly well in this role. The removal of the 59 leaves only the Lowe as a viable moneymaker, because IMO the lower-tier premiums don’t generate enough income. What they need I think is a spectrum of premium tanks from Tiers 5-9, including TDs but not including arty (premium arty would make so much money it wouldn’t be funny, I’m betting).
Their philosophy on the premium tanks seems to be to make them about as good as a mid-line normal tank of the same tier–slightly better than stock, not as good as fully upgraded. The Type 59 kind of skewed that a bit but the idea isn’t bad.

You also get a free day of Premium, so non-premium players may want to save the code for a day that you expect to play a lot.
Anyway, I hate to request an info-dump, but I would appreciate any information that you guys can provide about the Type 59. How does its rate of income generation compare to the Lowe? Is it worth owning both? I currently need to grind up some silver for my Tier X heavy, so I find the idea tempting.
Also, when will the U.S. Heavy line be revamped? I’ve heard they’ll turn the T-34 into a Tier VIII Premium Heavy, which might remove my need for the Type 59, but I have no idea when that patch is expected to arrive…
I don’t have a Lowe, but anecdotal info from my clanmates would indicate that the Lowe makes a bit more than the 59. On a good win I will clear 60-70k after costs; on a loss I still often make 20-30k (going by memory). Without the 59 it would be difficult to maintain my stable of bigger tanks, for sure. Owning both would just give you the ability to chain-run the premiums I guess, but really it comes down to whether you want to play a medium for your cash grind or a heavy.
No clue on the ETA for the US revamp. I have a fully upgraded T34 which I rarely use, waiting for the change.
Many thanks for posting this, guys–I can never resist a free slot and/or tank, and the free day of premium is just gravy.

I’m on the fence about getting a 59. I already have a Lowe and I don’t enjoy it very much. But I hear that the 59 is a lot more fun to play.
It’s a solid medium. It’s not blindingly fast, but it’s mobile and does 50kph. It has so-so armor but has good sloping, so it bounces stuff pretty well. The gun is about as good as the D10 I’d say. I enjoy it about as much as my other Tier VIII mediums.

59’s gun is the same in every way to the gun on T-whatevers 100mm.
The T-44 and T-54 both have better guns available.
Its wild they are going to stop selling the 59. Its a decent tank, but nothing amazing. Sure is nice to have when you’re trying to save up for Tier9 Heavies though. 3.5 mil+ isn’t easy to grind with an Easy8, much less do it two or three times, plus an extra 1.5 mil or so for equipment…
The “flood” of 59s is purely on Wargaming making credit earning such a pain.
Yep, and I bet they did it deliberately, to sell premium tanks. Not that I fault them necessarily for that, but I think they might have figured out a better balance somehow. But I am glad I have the 59.

so what are opinions on the MKVII Tetrarch (tier 2) vs the T-127 (tier 3).
Tetrarch actually seems nimbler and with a better gun, but tier lower? And the T-127 is a tier higher, DAMN SLOW for a light tanks, but maybe better armoured - it kind of feels like a junior / mini KV-1S.
I got both through various gitft/ code giveaways but think I can really only justify one low tier lolmobile so one should get sold for garage space! Especially since I think I will need a heavy and medium french tank :-)
I am leaning towards T-127, if only because everyone has a tetrarch. But the Tetrarch gun seems tops.
They’re very different tanks. The Tet is fast and zippy, and hits hard for its weight. The T-127 is tougher than it looks, and its gun is really no slouch. I survive more in the latter, but the former is undeniably fun. I’d hold on to both until you actually need the slot.
I think the choice between the Lowe and Type 59 (or KV-5, which I know many people enjoy) depends purely on your prefered gamestyle. Lowe farms slightly better (by like 10%) and is better for people prefering heavies. The Type farms very good still (especially with the recent 5% increase) and is a blast if you like mediums.
There is no “farming” reason to own both, but for “fun purposes”, it definitely makes sense if you enjoy both styles. You can farm one day as a heavy, another day as a med, depending on your mood.
As for the T34 move to premium, the last I heard, it was planned for the patch after next, supposedly around March. But we all know it can change at any time. The patch before that (February) is planned for French TDs and arty. The patch after that (April?) is planned for Soviet HTs, the next one - for German TD’s. Maybe they will be able to compress some of this, who knows.
But I wouldn’t expect the premium T34 to have the same “farming abilities” as the Lowe.
They also said they have the French premium tier 8 HT ready and it might get released in February.

Cool, thanks for the info, everyone! I think I’m going to skip the Type 59. One of the big advantages of Premiums that I’ve only just discovered is that other crews can use them without penalties. So I used silver to turn my 100% Ram II crew into a 90% T-20 crew. They got a daily triple in my T-20, then got a daily triple with acceleration in the Ram. It makes for very fast leveling.
It’s a big advantage of premium tanks, but one that is useless on a Chinese tank.
Yeah, this was one problem I was concerned about before buying my Type. And it’s a good argument for the “regular nations’” premium tanks. I wonder how good the French one is going to be, it might be a very fun way to farm credits and train crews.
