Now that T59s have been bumped up in the matchmaker, I’m finding less tier 6s in the battles. If I’m in a tier 6, there’s very few tier 8s I’m confident about taking on anyway. With this game, sometimes you’re either the terror on top and others, or your terrified on the bottom.

Er… no. Just no.

I’ve beaten groups of 5+ 59s when we had zero and there weren’t T9s or 10s in the battle. Hell I was a Tier6 and killed one of them. Losing maybe one tank in the exchange.

Tier9s slaughter them like they’re flies. Unless your T9 is stupid enough to wander into the middle of nowhere with no one else hes in no real danger. 59s can’t even hurt most Tier10s reliably.

The exceptions are T34s and T30s, but you can kill them with 3 Panzer4s if you wanted, so its not like that makes 59s special. And if the T34/T30 has even one or two T8s with him he’ll butcher the 59s like nothing.

Stick together, shoot them in the track if they are coming at you. Watch them spin and die in seconds as everyone shoots them repeatedly in the fuel tanks/ammo rack.

I mean if you want to play that game, how well do Tier6s do against IS-3s? Impervious from the front and they one shot you easily. TigerIIs can one or two shot you from orbit. T-44s will run you down like a dog, are impervious frontally and fire very fast. Panther2s and Pershings are godlike compared to Easy8s and the like.

Tier6s don’t do well against Tier8s. Kinda like Tier4s don’t do well against Tier6s.

In case you have noticed, I have an unreasonable fear / hatred of Type 59’s :-)

I’ve learnt where the ammo racks are (RIGHT side, two roadwheels back), I guess I should try tracking them more often. I onyl just unlocked anythign tier 7, so only have ttier 6 experiences to judge from, but I take your point that 2 tier gap on anything is tough. (particularly as I just played a ROFL stomp match recently with near elite KV as the top tank against tier 3 people…)

We had a wicked good set of battles in our Malta landing last night. There were a bunch of people lined up, some with byes, but we had to fight through 'em all. The new FoW feature is really cool. We were on Abbey, and in one battle we deliberately left the ravine road pretty bare (a TD overwatching) and flooded the maze on the opposite side. Lo and behold, a half-dozen IS-7s stormed the ravine, and for a while it looked grim. They swarmed our T95 like he was a speed bump, and though I td’d one in my T92, our arty was definitely not positioned to hit them where they were. Luckily we persisted and won a close victory with our fast heavies and a medium or two capping while our Object 704 and a plucky IS-3, believe it or not, kept their cap down. In another of the battles, we were on the south side and pretty much the same thing happened, but we also had a fight where the other team only had like 10 or 12 tanks and some were as low as T6. When we got to the battle for the territory, we were all keyed up, had our plans in place…and got a technical victory as the defenders didn’t show up.

I will say that with FoW now, good arty, and some intelligence–and most of all, a resistance to panic when you suddenly detect a swarm of enemies–Clan Wars are getting a lot more fun. The fast Frenchies are a real terror, and mediums are starting to have more of a role, as are the fast scouts. We routinely bring a T-50 or, preferrably, a T-50-2 now, until we can get a BatChat leveled up; a fast little bugger like that, when piloted well, can do wonders for spotting and generally messing with the enemy. Sometimes they even survive!

damn you guys for bringing me back into this game again ;)

yeeea!

(honestly i was google image searching for mobsters who pull you back in, but this was too good to pass up, so there you go :P )

That’s horrifying.

I, too, fired the game up for the first time in a month or two last night. I remember now why I love my SU-85: there was no artillery on the other team, so I parked in that one crater on the north side of Ruinberg, and proceeded to score six kills in nine shots on people coming up the road at the edge of the city, including everything on the other team higher than me on the team list.

No need to correct me because you completely missed my point.

My point was that in addition to being able to farm credits (silver) with lower level tanks, one could also farm gold with tier 10 tanks. Thus, theoretically, one could play without paying real money at all.

And you completely ignored the fact that some high tier tanks can also farm without premium - Ferdi and King Tiger, for example.

Here’s another thought - maybe the only reason the MM is ‘broken’, is because that’s the way they want it. They don’t want you to play just tier 5 tanks, because then there’s no false inducement to buy the next tier (so you can pwn next round).

Duh. Look up “carrot on a stick”.

Players would just spend all their time playing like-tier matches. I know I would play a whole lot more - I also would have spent a great deal less money.

Wouldn’t it be nice - to play more and pay less? :)

Unfortunately, the devs’ goal is not to make it perfectly comfortable for you to play all life happily without paying. They are in it to make money.

Wombat, it looks like you are in [BASIN]? Grats on defending Malta yesterday then.

We are neighboors - my clan, [RUS], used to hold Italy but due to a combination of reasons we withdrew completely from there and are now training our “younger” clanmates by playing Corsica and Sicily landings only.

Abbey used to be our favorite map, Italy has a lot of it and it’s really fun. Maybe we’ll visit Malta soon too. :)

Yeah, Fog of War does introduce some fun moments. A couple of days ago we were playing on Sicily (Lakeville) and were going through our standard play - careful advance, scouting, etc. About 5 (!) minutes later we noticed an IS, then Type. Turned out they had a really weak team (only a handful of tier 10) and were camping their base. If it weren’t for Fog of War, the fight would have been much shorter. :)

I wish they didn’t drop the idea of tank freezing in CW, I hope they do introduce it on the US server at some point. Their current system is a bit broken and favors the aggressor too much. Any clan holding a landing can drop their forces into 3 enemy provinces every day, let two expire, fight in one, lose and then do exactly the same next day. Repeat ad nauseum and the defender can do nothing about it and has to have 3 teams ready to fight every day. With tank freezing, a couple of loses like that would question their ability to defend their landing, thus making them more cautious with the attacks.

KT can farm without premium now? It didn’t used to be able to in beta. Four missed shots was enough to generally send me to a net loss, even with premium.

Here is a tip and it’s not really Type 59 specific, it works on any tank but it’s much more devastating against mediums. And it’s also a very good way to fight higher tiers.

Tracks. When they are facing you, hit their tracks - usually you will deal no damage to their health but you will stop them. When they are in a diamond position towards you, hit their track - the front wheel that is closest to you (more often you will take out the track AND do damage to the enemy). When you see their side, hit the top part of the track - again, you will break the track (or keep it broken) AND damage the hull.

When driving, let’s say, the King Tiger and dueling another Tier 8, there is nothing more annoying (and deadly) than some sneaky fast shooting tier 6 that keeps your tracks down. And your arty will love you too.

A lot has changed since beta :)

I played KT before the holidays and because of the upcoming vacation, I had no premium account for several days. KT is pretty good at generating credits now.

There are a few reasons for it. First, its armor got fixed and it can “tank” really well now. This means you will be fighting CQB more, which means less misses. It also means paying less for repairs - its front armor (when used in a diamond position) deflects a lot of shots. Second, IIRC its top gun was improved by one of the recent patches, making it more accurate. This means that even when you do shoot from some distance, you usually don’t miss.

You still don’t want to miss when you pay 1K per shot but now it’s easier not to.

I really love my KT, I have 70% win ratio on it. It’s probably my favorite tank now.

Nice to hear, I was almost all german in beta, and went almost all soviet in release. I felt the KT was inferior to the IS3 in beta and being on the other side of it didn’t change my opinion. It’s particularly nice to hear about the accuracy improvement.

Well, IMO, the latest patch tipped the balance towards the Russian line again due to introduction of “screens”. For those who don’t know, a “screen” is a part of the armor, penetration of which does not result in damage to the tank’s health points. Screens are usually located along the side but can also be found in other parts of the tank.

I really hate these screens. IS-4, for example, was always pretty hard to penetrate from the side. With these screens, however, it’s twice as hard now. In IS-4’s case, the screens are “only” 30 mm thick but in most cases it’s just enough to absorb a shell received even at a slight angle. Don’t even try shooting at IS-4’s external fuel tanks, you will never penetrate it unless you are at perfect 90 degree angle and are shooting from less than 100 meters. And even then it’s not 100%.

The only (more or less) reliable way to penetrate IS-4’s side is to shoot through the tracks and even then the margin for error is very small - a little deviation up or down and you are screwed.

Due to the armor design behind the “screen” (less of a slope), German tanks do not benefit from these screens nearly as much. Plus, there are still “holes” in the German tanks’ armor. I can set on fire E-100 much more reliably than the IS-4 or IS-7.

BTW, here is a nice website that allows to view real “in-game” 3D models of the tanks, including their internals. Very useful if you want to find tanks’ weak spots. It uses WebGL, so it’s picky about browsers and video cards but supposedly works good with Chrome and Firefox combined with any “gaming” video card. I can’t use it at work though, not with this video card…

[edit] Please don’t use the above website to find the ammo rack on the French tanks. :)

that is fucking impressive!

are these screens something you buy, like side skirts? I haven’t played in a little while…

No, they are a part of all tanks’ models, you don’t buy them. They were introduced in 7.0 patch IIRC.

One of my friends has freaking 76% on his AMX50-100 after about 200 matches last time I checked. I have no idea how he did it (he doesn’t play Company matches and is, like me, spending 50/50 of his time playing solo/platoon), I guess that tank really goes well with his playstyle. My own result on AMX50-100 is IIRC 64% after about 270 matches.

After about 100 fights he was at 80% and I was hoping his win ratio would drop to a more reasonable level over time but looks like it’s not going happen with him only 10K away from unlocking the AMX50-120. :)

so whats the secret to your incredible successes on the Royal Tiger? What equipment do you use? certain tactical tricks?

Hey, how much warning do players usually get before a new patch hits? I need to buy a T-30 before the next patch hits (in “February”) and am wondering how much time I have to grind up the needed credits. Obviously, as a backup plan I could just sell some of my modules or one of the higher-tier tanks in my garage to earn the money, but I’m hesitant to do so unless I absolutely need to.

Is there, at the very least, going to be a 24-hour heads-up before the patch? Or is it possible that I’ll log in one day and discover I’m too late?
