I’m loving this Patton top gun, because it can put some serious hurt on almost everyone (~400 hp per shot, which is amazing for a medium). But I’ve discovered I still can’t penetrate E-100s even from the side. Any tips on where to aim?
Lower glacis, front hull. Seems to be weaker there than the E-75 is, at least until 7.4 when they move the transmission to the front for the E-50 and E-75 (whee, more fires!). Also, side of the turret, rearwards, is often good. But if you really want the details, there are sites that show graphically all the weak points. http://gamemodels3d.com/ is kind of interesting.

Thanks Wombat, I do seem to be able to penetrate the turret side, but not the hull. Definitely not what I expected.
I’ve got to say I am enjoying the BatChat immensely even in post patch form. It has no armor but the speed of the tank and the accuracy of it’s main cannon are awesome. The low profile really helps survivability. One battle our team totally decimated a 5-a-side arty team. I have also come to realise it is the most hated tank after the T-59 on the battlefield. It tends to generate the most colorful insults from opposing teams when I am driving it.
This. Oh so true.
Those without thick skin, stay away from the Bat.
It is uniquely well-suited to punish stupidity, and people do not like that.

Very, very true and the origin of almost all the complaints.
It is the most satisfying of things to drop a 240mm shell on a moving Bat.Chat. When I can do that in my T92–which, admittedly, I don’t even try usually–it feels soooo good.
When the Bats were first introduced, we were getting slaughtered by them in Clan Wars. Now, not so much. We started deploying our own mediums–Tier IXs from other nations wreck Bats if used properly and in the right place–and later the T110E5s are speedy enough and tough enough to basically intercept and block the Bats with a little skill and luck. But they do tend to dictate the pace of the battle while they’re alive.
I don’t play Clan Wars (well can’t as I am in a different timezone) but it is still a fun tank to play in PUG matches given the massive gulf of skill level between players.
Speaking of T92 that is another vehicle that causes extreme abuse for me. I love playing tanks that generate abuse. ;)
We had to move our CW battle areas to northern Europe from Africa because the timezone of Africa battles made it hard to keep a full team in place. It’s an hour earlier in the Baltic region for us, so we can get both our Euros and our Aussies in for most matches, most nights. The timezone thing is a bitch, because tournament battles can often go on a while, and we found defending a territory in Africa to mean 11PM+ battles, which was brutal for East Coasters.
Last night we successfully defended Courland on the Baltic, in a battle that was at 10:07PM Eastern, a fairly manageable time. We actually did well, winning 15-0 for once, on Ruinberg. The other team also had a full slate of top tiers, as most do at this level, but just had a run of bad luck and a strategy that didn’t match up well with ours. The real challenge will be whether we can hold it the rest of the week before we prep for offensives on the weekend perhaps.
Interestingly enough, I’ve found my IS-7 to be my go-to Tier X for these things, if I’m not in my T92. I have the IS-4 and T110E5, as well as IX TDs and mediums, but the 7 is a neat tank. Mostly we run into IS-4s and especially T110E5s these days, and we often run about a 50/50 split of these tanks + support. We did use a Maus last night for a specific purpose, and we still run into a lot of E-100s, but we don’t use them much. We’ve found that right now they’re decidedly underperforming.
I’ve been working my way down through the American tank destroyer line, and I’ve fallen for the T49. It’s exactly the sort of vehicle I love-- highly mobile, and it packs a decent punch even if it isn’t very well-armored. It might be the first line I try and push to the end of.
If you like the T49 you will love the M18…it’s fast, hits hard, and dies just as fast, but it’s fun.
The T95, well, is the proverbial tortoise. Huge, slow, hits hard but did I say it’s slow? Of course, the line you’ll go down will probably be the one leading to the T30, which used to be a Tier X heavy tank. It too hits hard, but is both more vulnerable and more mobile than the 95.

Be warned that stops after the Hellcat. The T25/2 is extremely bad, with a weak gun and little speed. Then the T28Prot has a top speed of like 18.
If you really like fast tanks with little armor that pack a punch, the French line has quite a bit of that once you get past the early tiers. For that matter the Soviet mediums are a lot like that once you hit Tier7+.
I’ve disliked the IS-7 from almost the first day I bought it. This is reflected in my poor stats for this tank. Do you have any hints on playing it well? It became so frustrating I started using it as a scout tank. I still find my IS-4 is my favorite heavy.
Blast. I guess I’ll stop at the Hellcat for now, then, and push down the French light/medium line. The AMX 12t is fun, but as a T5 light tank it’s really in just about the worst spot possible for matchmaking.
Yeah, it’s a love/hate thing I guess. One caveat, though–without gold ammo, the IS-7 is a lot less effective in my experience (though that’s true for most Tier Xs in CW). I use its mobility mostly, flanking and getting around to shoot at heavies that are engaging our T110s usually. Try to keep it facing dead-on because of its shark nose, rather than offset like most tanks. Get close, because the S70 is not terribly accurate. And back the F off if you’re getting tagged, as it can’t shrug off stuff like the IS-4. It also has a bad tendency to ammo rack, especially the turret sides. But the speed and general bounciness, and the sheer damage capacity of the gun, is what I like I suppose.
I actually (don’t laugh) like the T25/2. The top 90mm is about the same as the Pershing’s, and the tank can actually shrug off a fair bit of damage. But it’s nowhere near as fun as the T25-AT, that’s for sure. The other line though is definitely better, as the T25-AT, the T28, and the T95 are all blasts to play (at least they are for me).
For sheer enjoyment, I think the Russian TD line is best, as the Object 704 is a great blend of awesome firepower, decent mobility, and some protection (mostly angles, not armor), and the two tanks prior to it all have a lot going for them. And the SU-100 and 85 are pretty fun too. As for the Germans, the Marder II, for low-tier TDs, was my hands-down favorite, and the Ferdi is a killer TD with the top gun–easily one of the most fun to play.

If the T25/2 had the 105 (which theres no good reason it doesn’t) it would be a perfectly good tank. But it doesn’t. Instead of the gun from the next tier (or even equal tier) heavy like most TDs, it has the gun from the next tier medium. Worse yet if you get the T28 Prototype you have to unlock TWO fricken expensive guns because you couldn’t unlock one in the lower tier (unless you went the other tree already).
I do pretty well with the T25/2. Hell I even got the medal for killing 5 or more dudes by myself with it. But its not a good tank. Its a T20 with less health and less speed. Its armor is non-existant and it doesn’t punch above its weight. Its basically the JP4 of the US TD line. In pretty much every way its a Slugger. Same armor, speed and gun (10mm more penetration and nothing else does not a better gun make).
No argument there; on paper, it’s a dog. In practice, I find it fairly survivable and relatively fun to play, but it really is a crappy TD. The comparison to the IV is apt.
When fully upgraded, the T-25/2 is quite decent. But you’ll wish you had the Hellcat back. Which is what I personally did. Decided the progress to the T-30 was not worth it, sold the T-25/2 and bought back my beloved Hellcat.
It should be noted that the first turret on it has no freaking gun depression. It’s a sick joke, really. The second one however has amazing gun depression (like a Patton). The second 90mm is also pretty good … for a MEDIUM. Which this is not. It also, unlike the Hellcat, has the typical slow reverse speed, which is unhealthy when you have little armor. As mentioned earlier, there is no reason to drive the T-25/2 instead of the T-20.
So, unless someone really, badly wants a T28 prototype or the T-30, avoid this line or stop at the marvelous Hellcat (and keep it as an excellent money earner).

I think you guys are being a bit hard on the JgdPzr IV. I think it’s a decent enough TD. It’s got a very low profile and it a tough nut to crack for anything on it’s tier. It does lack the maneuverability of the StuG III, but I didn’t find it painful to drive like say the Hetzer.
I’m really enjoying the Hellcat. But what is the Slugger like and how does it compare to the Hellcat.
Also if I wanted to go up one of the traditional TD lines on either Americans or Russians (I’m already at the JagdPanther on the German line) any thoughts on how the American non-turrets compare to the Russian ones? I’ve got the Slugger unlocked and can probably get the SU-85 unlocked fairly quickly from the T-34.
