My Tiger 2 (tier 8) and E-75 (tier 9) made very good money. My latest tier 9, AMX 50-120, stays in the positive with no problem (no premium) although it’s hardly a money maker. But at least it pays for itself and then some.

IMO which tanks are going to make money largely depends on the player’s gamestyle, preferences and skill. Like everything else in the game really. If you don’t like (or don’t know how) to play TD’s, you will not make money with tier 8 TD’s, even though Ferdi was one of my best moneymakers in the game, second (and only slightly) only to the premium Type 59.

I was speaking about the general player. My AMX50-120, Ferdie and Tiger II made money too. Hell even my JTiger did. So did my IS3 and IS4 in the beta. It’s very different for people with a lot of experience under their belt, compared to those just grinding out their lines for the first time.

Am I remembering correctly that German TDs past the JagdPanzer IV have horrible camouflage and that there’s no point in giving their crews Camo skill?

That’s correct, JagdPanther, Ferdi and JagdTiger have bad camo values. But IMO one still needs camo skill on their crews. With camo skill, your JagdPanzer IV will be visible, for example, from 150 m as opposed to 200 m, while your Ferdi - from 250 as opposed to 300.

Camo skill still reduces the detection range, even if it’s not as short as on the earlier TD’s. The skill’s main goal is to allow you to make the first shot at the incoming enemy. Both JagdPanzer IV and Ferdi become visible as soon as they shoot (if not behind a double bush), both want to start shooting as soon as they see the enemy, both have to move behind a hard cover right after the shot. The fact that hidden JagdPanzer IV will not be seen until the enemy is 100 meters away does not mean they need to wait until the enemy is that close.

Basically camo skill on high tier TD’s (as well as the lower tier TD’s or any tank really) allows you take a few seconds aiming at the enemy before they see you.

Not sure if I explained my position properly, my brain’s hardly working today :)

A few of my crew members have their picture highlighted in orange on the top left and there’s a little orange triangle near the corner. What does that mean? The rest of their profile looks the same as anyone elses’.

Patch 7.4 has been released in Russia today. New fight modes, new maps, French arty (supposedly very OP) and TD’s, tweaked damage model, no more Komarin and Swamp maps, Tiger 2 and E-75 have their transmission (which in game means engine module) in the front and some other minor stuff.

As usual, the feedback so far is very negative. French arty (at least some of them) is crazy OP (which yet again results in huge numbers of arty playing now), new fight modes are hugely imbalanced, new damage model results in even more “no damage” penetrations, Tiger 2 and E-75 catch on fire every other match.

Personally, I can’t wait to check out the new modes but I don’t like how the rest of the changes sound.

We should see the patch probably tomorrow or maybe Monday.

I have the same thing on one crew member per tank. Best performance, perhaps?

When you turn on “Accelerate Crew Training” a symbol appears by whichever crew member will be receiving the benefit of acceleration. (If your crews train equally it should change after every battle, but if you started your radio man at 50% he’s going to be highlighted for a while…)

It’s an addition that was made in one of the more recent patches.

If I already have a T14 and a Ram II, I don’t need a Churchill, do I? The only reason I’d look at one is that I could stick a Russian heavy crew in there.

I think you’ve identified the issue. The Churchill has the same favorable matchmaker as the T14, and the same gun as the Ram II. If you find yourself cursing the T14’s lack of penetration, the Churchill is a good alternative (gaining penetration and a small bit of DPS at the expense of speed, versatility, and the ability to train U.S. crews) but it’s not really a different experience from playing the tanks you own.

I prefer my Churchill to my T14, but I’m starting to think that the T14 may be a better tank, especially when platooning. (The Churchill is so slow compared to low-tier tanks that I’ve lost several games due to a flank failing with me being unable to respond in time.)

Your interest in the tank will come down to your willingness to spend the gold, and your desire to train Russian heavies.

What? Noooo! I loved that map, especially after the massive changes to it.

What is it with people lobbying the developers to remove any map that asks for any kind of tactical flexibility right out of the game? They did it with Province (for most people playing the game) and now another of my favorites. And after all this, bloody Ensk is still in there. :(

Do premium tanks come with a free slot? If they do, 750 gold wouldn’t be that bad, but I already have more tanks than I can typically play in a day…

What do you mean they did it with Province? Isn’t it one of the newest maps that was even put on the CW map recently?

I didn’t hate the updated Komarin but it was heavily skewed in favor of the bottom team. Plus it was 99% winnable by simply rushing the enemy base. I don’t think it was a tactically flexible map.

And I kinda like Ensk, so I guess we are very different in our map preferences. :)

Province was relegated to Tiers II and III only I think, or I and II maybe. It was pretty tight for higher-tier vehicles, and a lot of people complained I guess.

Komarin I hate, but Swamp I really like. Taking Swamp out is dumb. It isn’t unbalanced, it just requires people to actually take into account terrain for mobility purposes and learn how to cover chokepoints.

Nope, you’ll need to provide your own slot.

I don’t like Komarin because it does seem to favor the bottom start position (although this could be confirmation bias after hearing a friend complain) and I don’t like Swamp because I tend to play slow heavies, but I don’t think either map should be removed from the rotation. Especially if it’s due to player reaction, and not due to imbalances that are visible through the map statistics.

Province, on the other hand, needed to be removed from higher tier games. The map was just too small compared to the spotting distances and engagement ranges of the top-tier tanks.

Thanks for the explanation.

Agreed. I hate taking out maps because eventually all we’ll get is Mirovanka, Erlenberg, and Siegfried Line over and over again if this keeps up.

What are the recommendations for Crew Skills and Equipment for French Tanks?

I’ve gotten to the BatChat and AMX-50-120 with the French, and used the same set up for both crews:

Sixth Sense for Commander first.
Then Camouflage/Repair/Aim Time helpers for all crew.

I can’t state with any degree of certainty that Camo is doing anything on the heavy line, but there isn’t exactly a better option around once you have repair.

As I mentioned above, IMO camo skill is useful on all tanks including heavies. At the very least, it gives you a couple of seconds of aiming time when encountering someone without this skill.

It makes zero sense to move Province to lower tiers because it’s not suited for high tier tanks and at the same time add it to the CW map. Zero. One of our provinces in Italy got switched to Province and it’s going to suck to defend it.

I didn’t mind Swamp either. Not the most favorite map but it wasn’t blatantly imbalanced towards any side. It was an ok map.
