Lol.
I hope we’ll be able to disable the voice com completely. I don’t want to talk to them, I don’t want to listen to them. I often play with my 3 year old, he loves the tanks but I am so glad he doesn’t know how to read yet.
Why do games insist on forcing voice com on us? Pre-configured voice messages are much better.
Probably because actual voice, if used properly, conveys specifics quickly and accurately, and canned voice is near useless.
Look at the state of the game right now. In theory, they’ve got all these fast messages bound to the function keys, like “attack here!” and “retreat!” etc. In practice, I’ve never seen anyone use them effectively. Most often, they’re just spammed by idiots at the start of a match. About the only effective pre-configured communication is the “pay attention to this square,” and that usually only works when there’s only a single target you’re hunting.
I frequently see a square on the grid tagged followed by an ‘arty here’ or ‘IS7 here’ comment. When I’m playing artillery, I find that highly useful. when I’m playing a normal tank, maybe slightly useful.
Ah, but if you don’t have the following “arty here” or “IS7 here,” it’s not all that helpful. If they stuck to the canned messages exclusively, not much would get done. You can of course combined canned voice with typing, but it’s better just to have voice. You can say stuff while keeping your eye on the ball playing, and you can also listen to voice while paying attention to the crosshair or minimap or whatever instead of the chat box.
Point taken, although I play probably 95% of my games with the sound off… so text chat works better for me :)
If they integrated the minimap into things like hitting T to announce what you’re targeting, thus giving your team a blip on the map, that would help. Otherwise, I almost never, ever use in-game chat stuff–that’s why there are Vent and TS and Mumble.

Right. And now imagine that idiot having access to voice com. Or some other idiots start discussing something unrelated. Or making stupid jokes or whatever I have no interest in.
Like in other games that do have voice vom, people will just disable it, if they can. And if people disable it, it’s useless anyway.
Oh, I agree. It will be abused, and turned off. My point was that the canned voice system you suggested wouldn’t work even if no one abused it. The problem is that canned voices are too limited to convey any useful tactical information to speak of. Canned voices are pretty much at their limit with what is already implemented in game: immediate feedback for actions like shooting a tank or getting hit.
I wonder if they’d consider tying the voice chat to the platoon system as another way to drum up subscription fees, since you have to be on premium to use platoons. That seems like the best of both worlds to me.
Guess I can stop playing this until after the soft wipe. Not sure if I want to start Russian or US next. Any idea if there will be another wipe after at release?
Edit: Actually this will probably be my last chance ever to play the German tanks so I might as well play them hard until the wipe.
Last chance why? Going to abandon them? I admit, the heavies are terrible (the KT is viable, the others not), but the TD’s, the Leopard, and the Panther line aren’t bad.

stugstugstugstug fuck yea!
The Panther is cool. Getting to the Panther is not. Jagdpanther is the best looking TD in the game, I think. That thing is seriously cool.

i think the stug and jagdpanzer IV look better. i like my tanks flat. makes em look mean.
StuG I like. The IV looks too industrial, but I agree, it’s rather clean. I also like the SU-85/100 though.
How’s the american medium line? might choose that next time i play.
I’m only up to the M4A3E8, which is a fine Tier 6 tank. Fast-firing 76mm gun, good turret traverse, 640 hit points or so, so-so armor, good speed. Ain’t gonna take down a Tiger II from the front, but you can annoy the big boys from the side and rear. Blasts lights and other mediums well enough. I know nothing of the other mediums beyond that, as they’re all weird-ass experimental thingies AFAIK.
Anybody got tips on playing mediums? I am having a really hard time figuring out my role. Compared to my IS mediums seem a but redundant. I can go shoot up some lights or other mediums but my IS can do that as well and at a similar speed.
help?
Ugh. Don’t mind a soft wipe on the tanks, but have grown quite attached to some of my elite tank crews.
Mediums = need to keep situational awareness, as role can very much change match to match or during a match. Though guess you say that of just about any tank… The main advantage from a heavy and a light is that it is easier to transition between roles. I.e. my T34-57 will normally start off as anti-scout, then, depending on the level of opposition, either go scout/ anti arty myself (if I’m a T5 in a high tier match) or go support an attack (if in medium tier match)

Over at the official forums they have announced that, in addition to nerfing the American Heavies (T29 and T32) by reducing their armor, the IS4 will have its frontal armor increased. It’s laughable how obvious the developer bias in favor of russian tanks is.
