Coolio.

LOL on the ban that was rescinded. I’ve been pretty lucky with TK’ers, only had one who took me out after an inadvertent collision.

The M4 isn’t bad at all. The 76mm and 105mm guns are better than the tier V T34 (which I’ve never bothered using anything but the 57mm)

M7-57, once tricked out is about on par with T34-57, with edge to T34. Haven’t got up to M4-E8 yet, but looking at specs, guess worse than the T34-85. Will probably start up the US heavy tree though - haven’t tried any heavy tanks of any nation yet.

Wish you could opt for “three tier” only matches, e.g 7-9, or 3-5

If you have gold to spare the HE spammer on the M4 is amazing.

I have a maxed out T-34/85 and a fully upgraded but crew under 100% still M4A3E8. The T-34/85 is better, and it has the option to use the D10, though the upgrade 85 is I think better due to its ROF. The Soviet tank is fast, decently armored, and hits pretty hard for its class. The Sherman is also a good tank, and the ROF on the 76 is nice, especially with a rammer. I think it’s a bit more fragile in my experience, and seems to feel slower. Both are fun, when you get in a good match; that is, one not full of Maus, IS-7s, and T32s etc.

I’m also liking my IS, though I desperately need to upgrade the suspension and turret to get the 122 back on the field. I have no gold though, having used it all for XP transfers, and no premium either :). It’s beta so I don’t care much, really.

You guys know I’ve often said Overlord is the only decent WoT mod, and I stand by that. However, a recent post of his demonstrates he’s as clueless about the heavy tank imbalances as the rest of the mods:

*I’m sure that’s a typo, and he means Maus

Anyone who thinks that the IS is comparable to the Tiger and that the IS-4 is comparable to the VK4502 really doesn’t understand the game. In both cases, the Soviet tank is significantly better. When you consider the fact that many players think the IS-4 is better than the IS-7, the IS-4/VK4502 comparison may be the biggest mismatch in the entire game. Since I haven’t played the US heavies, I have no comment on that part of his post.

Makes me wonder when people do these comparos whether they’re talking about stock tanks or fully upgraded models? There’s a HUGE difference usually. Other that I can’t comment as I only have very limited experience in this realm, with just a basic IS as my entry level big guy.

The IS-3 is light years better than the TigerII in my book. TigerII can be easily penetrated at range by most T5 vehicles. You can’t realistically hurt an IS-3 until Tier 6 or 7 (I’m talking with TDs here). If they TigerI was faster it might help its cause, but the IS is still better.

As far as the Ausf B v IS-4, they’re fairly close only because the AusfB has so much health. I’d take the IS-4 everytime if given a choice, but I’ve seen both do very well in the field and both are effectively immune to rounds from damned near everything.

I need to totally fix this list.

tier 7 - USSR (IS) and Germany (Tiger I) are not even nearly comparable. USA (T-29) is the favourite because of it’s currently broken armor values.
tier 8 - USSR (IS-3) and Germany (Tiger II) are laughably comparable The IS-3 is out to see how many Tiger II’s it can kill in a match. USA (T-32) is the favourite (looking one).
tier 9 - USSR (IS-4) and Germany (VK4502) are comparable in a cool graphics sense. USA (T-34) is a bit weaker, why did you buy one?.
tier 10 - USSR (IS-7) is the favourite. Germany (Maus)* USA (T-30) and inferior and almost equal to each other. Why the hell did you not get an IS-7 when you had the chance? We expect there to be 40,000 of them after the softwipe.

That looks better.

I still can’t decide if I want the 100mm or 122mm on my KV-3.

I like the 106 or whatever I have from the KV quite a lot, so the 100mm is just like a slightly better version of it… that does a lot less damage… But everyone swears by the thing.

The 122 fires a lot slower, but at least it hits harder.

There is a new king in tier 7 heavies, however. It’s the T29 US heavy. I have one fully upgraded now, and it has the best gun of the lot (though the 40k grind to unlock it is very painful - since until then you have the worst gun among tier 7 heavies). It’s also much more usable in hull down positions due to that massive turret armor. It’s not as nimble as the IS, so it plays as a true heavy. And the front armor is better on the IS - but not good enough for a direct confrontation with the T29. These days it’s really all about the guns, so the T29 edges out the former champion.

It’s the same thing with the Tiger II vs IS-3 comparison. The armor on both is relatively easily penetrated from the sides and relatively durable from the front. So it comes down to the gun and mobility. And the IS-3 has the edge in both. The US tier 8 heavy is a joke in comparison to both of them. It still has the same gun you had last tier on the T29 but doesn’t get a hull armor upgrade. So you essentially have a tier 7 heavy in tier 8. Not good.

On the KV-3 the 122mm D-2-5T or the 107mm Zis-6 are your best choices. The former for the sheer killing power and the latter for money making (1,000 vs 256 credits per shot).

Using the 100mm gun is mostly a waste when the two above are an option.

The KV3… I’ll echo Supper’s Ready. Go with either the default cannon or the 122mm. You do more damage per minute with the higher ROF gun. That said the 122 is your best option on the IS so you’ll be researching it sooner or later.

I loved the derp gun (152mm) on the kv. I’m gonna miss that. I did unlock the elephant gun on it though, because i really do not want to drive the KV3 with the t28s gun.

also, m6 is really fun when in a good match, as is the easy 8. That m1a2 gun isnt half as bad as its statistics suggest. been tearing down outflanked tigers and ISs with it.

Hehe I just got the Hummel. It kinda sucks right now (relatively to other arty) with its 75% crew but I never leave a battle with less than 2 kills. I thought it’s going to be my moneymaker and it does bring the money but IT’S SO FREAKING BORING. Seriously, I don’t know how people play arty, I got bored to tears after 10 matches.

I love my Ferdi (when I get at least some support from my teammates) but it hardly makes any money. I don’t have the uber gun yet though, need 10k more exp.

The new king is getting nerfed next patch. Can’t have anyone beating the Soviet tanks, now can we?

My Ferdi couldn’t penetrate 6 shots in a row of a buttoned down T29’s turret yesterday. He was about 200m away and I was using the second gun (105mm?) on my Ferdi. His listed frontal armor is 176mm and my average penetration is listed as 200mm. In the meantime, he brought me (with my 200mm frontal armor) down to 30%. If you think that’s ok and doesn’t need nerfing, then, …err… more power to you.

US heavies don’t need bugged armor to be better than the IS’s - T29 should be better than IS even with its listed stats. Let’s just wait and see how it works once fixed and start freaking out afterwards.

Who’s freaking? I’m just saying that the only heavies that are currently superior to the Soviets are going to get hit with the nerf bat. Given dev bias, I think they’ll get hit as often as it takes to change that. Witness the speed nerfs to the Tiger and KT for “balance” reasons, balance meaning “make them inferior to the IS series despite their historical speeds”.

So when is the next soft wipe hitting?

Next week I think. The 7th I hear? Something like that.

The gun isn’t getting nerfed, though. And as long as it has that gun it’s a better tank than the Tiger and IS.
Virtually the same penetration as the Tiger’s 88mm, but a whole lot more damage. A bit less damage than the IS, but significantly higher penetration. With a rate of fire right in between the other two guns.

EDIT:
Incorrect information. Please see post 1739.

My main point, however, that with non-bugged armor you could have expected to ding on perhaps 4 of the 6 shots you made. Still a low enough penetration rate to avoid shooting the turret if at all possible.

Also let’s not forget that while their turret armor is quite insane, the hull is quite weak. I’ve witnessed (and contributed to) so many US heavies were getting permanently tracked - never moving again until they were destroyed.
