Already have my new goal. Take my softwipe XP and go up the IS line as far as possible like everyone else is going to do. At this point you almost have to if you want to have any sort of chance at all of having fun. Possibly go up a TD line if I have enough XP left.

There ya go! Join the herd with the rest of us. It exists for good reason.

Hopefully, looking at this clan war business they plan on doing, we can get ourselves a Qt3 outfit going. Would make the game more fun times infinity, I think.

Ill join unless the clan wars require you to fire money at the enemy (ie, purchase gold ammo). If they do, pass.

Oh, and by “require”, I mean to be competitive. I know the rules won’t mandate buying the stuff, but if the other team consistently does and your team doesn’t, the result will be loss–loss–loss–loss.

I think that’s a given that nearly everyone would pass on that. :)

The tiger would be great in a game where everyone wasn’t packing guns much better than their historical counterparts.

I think it’s clear this game’s intended primary audience is Eastern Europe/Russia. It’s a big love-letter to the Soviet armored program. That’s not necessarily bad, as the history of tank games or plain-old tank history has had more than its share of Germanophilic drivel over the years, so some corrective can’t hurt. But it does seem a bit silly sometimes, and more than that, I wonder how much their approach will hamper their success in North America, or even Western Europe. The German tanks are iconic, and if they aren’t at least competitive that can’t help the appeal of the game for some people. Then again, they already made what I think is a dumb decision, to go with experimental tanks rather than an expanded line of real tanks, so clearly they don’t work on the same timeline I do…

Regarding the Tiger: to be fair, with the exception of the SU/ISU-152, all stock vehicles in this game are painful and ineffective. The Tiger is of course inferior to the IS and T29, but those tanks are almost as horrible in their stock versions. They pull ahead with upgrades.

On a different note, I am waiting for the promised hardcore mod. Where tank HP is removed, the detection system functions very differently (no details) and penetration is all that really matters. You die not by losing HP but by losing modules, like engine, ammo rack, etc. Or your crew gets killed. When this comes, though, I have no idea.

I like this; it comes a bit closer to reality.

I put the suspension upgrade on the Tiger, turns a lot easier, accelerates a bit quicker. To be fair it’s the first heavy I’ve had and now I’m learning to use it properly (note to self, just because you see red doesn’t mean shoot at it).

It’s going much better now than when I got it. Shouldn’t take to long to slap the turret and the big 88 on it. Hopefully the engine too. Possibly even before the softwipe.

Can’t say it’s great and wonderful but it’s new and different. I kind of like it a little bit now.

Edit: Upcoming patch notes: They look…terrible. http://forum.worldoftanks.com/index.php?/topic/19394-beta-0624-update/page__pid__264771#entry264771

Trust me, you’d like an IS more. It was night and day when I switched to Soviet armor.

  • Added new battle mode: the “Tank Company Battle”. A company of tanks with sum of tiers from 60 to 90 will get into a company waiting list where it will be randomly assign an opposing company

Woohoo!

Completely wierd. Some googling shows that the ARL44 existed (post war) and some of the others (AMX50) were post war prototypes. Presumably the devs want to play tank designer, and not be constrained by historical reality at all? No-one can argue with them what the top speed of a non-existent 1943 French tank is…

The tank company battle looks different…at least it’s not a random battle hehe. And thankfully the voice chat is restricted to companies and platoons.

Increasing the visibility of scouts is good. Adding more medals is good.

Making the IS series tougher is just silly.

But but but…increasing the likelihood of damage to modules? What? What?

Because I need my tracks/ammo/engine/whatever destroyed even more often, yeah lovely.

IS tougher? My heart sinks already if I see too many of them. With only tank on tank action, and no logistics, “universal” (medium) tank role is secondary to TD or heavy tank role of either breakthrough tank (heavies) or dedicated tank killer (TD)

Making the IS series tougher is just silly.

Where do you see this in the patch notes? The only thing I see is some armor shuffling for IS-4.

But but but…increasing the likelihood of damage to modules? What? What?

This sucks. Of course, it remains to be seen in action but, lately, for the first time in months I was pretty happen with the module damage - instead of feeling perma-debuffed, it is rare enough to feel like an unfortunate but avoidable event.

Increasing the visibility of scouts is good. Adding more medals is good.

Where do you see this? All I am seeing is “reduced visibility during movement” for all low tier tanks. I am not sure what’s the logic behind this change. But then again, as usual, “reduced visibility” can be viewed as “scouts see less” or as “scouts are seen less”.

  • The doubled experience for the first battle (in a day) on each tank now is given not for the first battle, but for the first victory on the tank…

This is nice, getting 152 (doubled) exp on my Lee was depressing.

Thank God they are fixing the US turrets. Buttoned down T29 is harder to take down than IS-7 (for the Ferdi).

This is probably the first patch that doesn’t affect arty at all. The devs are comfortable with the status quo?

Generally speaking, this is going to be a pretty strange patch. Weird changes to visibility, accuracy and speed accross the board - hard to tell how it’s going to affect the game. Mediums get faster and more accurate on the move?

Hehe, I kind of understand why the stock tanks suck so much in the game. It’s really fun to upgrade them little by little and see some genuine and very tangeble improvements. My friend bought the Panther yesterday and was shocked how bad it is out of the box, it’s terrible (he raced my upgraded Ferdi and could barely pass me). But he knows how beautiful a fully upgraded Panther is and it keeps him going. :)

I am liking my IS with the good turret and suspension, though I want the better 122; I have the middle 122, which as far as I can tell only differs from the better one in its ROF, but that’s a huge deal for that slow-firing gun. The IS can take good damage and I feel pretty good going up against Tigers now. Tiger IIs kill me pretty solidly.

If you read the entirety of the notes, the likelyhood of module damage in general is going up 17%, but the likelyhood of module damage from HE is going down 50%, and the likelyhood of module damage from HE splash is being zeroed, aside from possible crew injury. Since most module damage comes from HE, this ends up being a major net drop in module damage, and is designed to reward people who shoot key areas of a tank with AP. If you read between the lines, in theory this means that artillery splash won’t be able to track tanks anymore.

If you read between the lines, in theory this means that artillery splash won’t be able to track tanks anymore.

No it doesn’t. They specifically talk about inner modules only and tracks don’t qualify :)

The “Since most module damage comes from HE…” is also questionable as in my experience, AP rounds just as responsible for the module damage I get.

I also doubt the “…and is designed to reward people who shoot key areas of a tank with AP”. With the current dispersion at med/long ranges, module damage is mostly random - I doubt anyone specifically targets my viewports at the top of my Ferdi and it gets knocked out all the time. Plus the famous “got shot in the face, engine is damaged”, which was supposedly reduced in the last patch but still happens.

We’ll see though. You are right, it’s too early to predict the effect of these changes.
