Thanks for the clarification!
Had to stop playing just now, apparently I finally got the invisibility bug on my Jagdpanzer 4. Killed like 6 tanks…two Tigers. None of them ever turned toward me but they screamed like crazy in chat.
Well hey, I don’t like it either, but I had to have at least one match of turnabout is fair play.
If anyone here is playing the Ferdinand that is not yet fully upgraded, I have good news for you. It gets awesome.
With the first two engines (600 and 670hp), it’s like trying to turn an iceberg. Painful, horrible and frustrating beyond description. After unlocking the third and final engine (870hp), however, it becomes almost like a 70 ton StuG III – turning on a dime.
The Ferdinand went from a frustrating mess to a sheer pleasure to play (having the final gun doesn’t hurt either).
The last engine makes so much difference that if I’m going through the German TD line in the release version, I am likely sticking with the first two guns (second unlocked on the JagdPanther anyway) and getting the engines first. Suddenly becoming as maneuverable as an IS-3 makes such an enormous contribution to the Ferdinand’s effectiveness that I can’t see myself leaving it for last.
The difference between the tier 8 tank destroyers is very interesting, now that I have both as fully upraded versions. The ISU-152 has an amazing gun and ridiculously good stealth, but isn’t very maneuverable and has paper for armor. The Ferdinand has maneuverability (who would have thought?) and tons of armor in its favor, but the gun is not much to write home about and its stealth capability is terrible compared to the ISU-152.
And yet I love playing both. So, come release, I’m likely to alternate both TD lines.
And that’s how the various tank lines should be balanced. Meaningful choices in playstyle between tanks that are equally strong in different but effective ways.
Looks like release plans in the US/EU are firming up.
I’m hoping they launch not too long after the holidays.
Are there any other examples of free to play games using Steam? Seems like an odd choice to me.
I dislike Steam and have successfully avoided it altogether until the last couple months. However, the release of Civ5 and Fallout: New Vegas have forced me to use it, and now it looks like WoT will continue this annoying trend.
In it’s current state I wouldn’t pay them a red cent for anything. Yeah, yeah it’s free…(is it really?).
I’m amazed the Russian server has people paying them for the current build. Hello? Invisible tanks? Fix it!
It’s very viable to play the game completely free. I joined before the last soft wipe and didn’t have the gold for premium for a bit over two weeks, as it was accumulating. Got to the StuG III and T-34-85 in that time without premium, and that was before they reduced the T-34-85 cost from 900 to 720k.
Playing with the 1k/shot guns without premium is also possible. On the KV-1S and IS tanks I made about 3-5k profit when played well and about 2k when played regularly. It’s slow of course, but still possible.
And if you use artillery (like a Hummel) or the 250 credits a shot guns (medium tanks and many TDs) you can make pretty good profit. My Hummel was making ~10-15k a game without premium and the T-34-85 was making about 10k.
The lolcannon KV was making 15-20k a game, due to the huge damage it did to much higher tier targets and was so ridiculously cheap to repair.
Premium just makes it easier to be ahead in the power curve. But you still have to spend additional money for the shortcuts like training the crew to 100% right away.
And really, despite the multiple problems still remaining with the game, it's light years better than when I joined back in August. The ability to have real ranged fights alone makes it a totally different game -- or do I need to remind everyone about the days of the hated T-44 domination? Where are they now?
I just had my KT bounce five shots in a row off US M37 artillery, tier 3… with shells that cost me over 1k each.
I feel your pain. Had BL-10 shots bounce off a KV at near point blank range. Which cost 1600 credits a shot.
But let’s be fair, these are occasional occurrences. Unless I’m the luckiest guy playing WoT.

So! Has the PvE in this game got any better?
You can’t kill dogs by driving over doghouses anymore.
A couple more interesting tidbits from Overlord. When asked for a release time frame, he said “February - March 2011”. A little later than I was hoping, but still decent. He also made the following comment about the Maus, which is the first time I’ve ever seen a mod or dev acknowledge its inferiority:
Yes, Maus is currently inferior to the other 2 tier 10s. Apart from hp increase, it will get increase of hp for all his internal modules. That will make it better, not worse.
Playing Maus requires much more skill and tactics than for IS-7 or T-30, Maus is less mobile and should always take the right position in battle.
It’s a start.

Hes acknowledged it before.
He admits the IS-4 is better than its counterparts as well.
Then he goes on to say that the Maus will never get its proper gun and that the IS-4 is getting buffs.
After three months of testing, I’ve decided…that it could have been great. I look forward to The Old Republic much more than I did before.
A team making an online game that virtually ignores gamebreaking bugs is not worth my time. Yes, I refer to the spotting/visual problem. People say ‘get binocs’. Sorry, don’t have 500,000 credits. ‘Get camo net’. 100k more. ‘Train crew to 100% camo.’ Not spending 1000 gold to train a crew to 100% and suffering through more of the same for that either.
Waste of time, will be a bigger waste of money if they continue development in this vein.
I’m sorry you can’t deal with bugs in a beta, even bugs they say they are working on fixing. Maybe free beta tests aren’t for you if you think it is a waste of your time to get to play a buggy game for free.
For the 28th time at least, it’s not actually a beta. It’s a stress test.
It isn’t the bugs, it’s the development. As I said. The developers do not care what we say. They do not communicate. It’s bad development. If it matters, which it doesn’t, I have beta tested online games for many years. I can deal with bugs, I can’t stand shoddy development. Thus, waste of time. Why test if I’m not heeded at all?
It’s great that you like it, I’m happy for you.
Also, if you could point out where they say they’re fixing the spotting/invisibility bug, that would be great, because I can’t find it beyond a brief mention from Overlord saying something vague about bushes.
Like with all translated mmo’s i doubt there is any developers here except ones for localization, all we get is the russian game patched to our language. So i really doubt they listen to any feedback related to game balance.
I hope it gets worked out for the better. I really would like to play it come retail time. Despite doing the tier grinds again.
