Yeaaaaah, horde dominates southshore, it’s a big pile of ooze farm now…

This might help!

can someone tell me wtf happened to magni and cairne?

I think cairne is like dead…

he got executed for been a traitor or something.

taken from wowwiki.

Shocked at the rumors that the new Warchief slaughtered innocent druids, Cairne challenges Garrosh Hellscream to an honorable duel in the arena of Orgrimmar. Magatha, unknown to Garrosh, masks the poisoning of Gorehowl as a ritual blessing. During the course of the fight his ancient Bloodhoof Runespear is shattered by Gorehowl, allowing a shallow grazing of the chest which causes Cairne to falter in paralysis, as he dies from the poison he realizes the betrayal, his final thought as a final attack from Gorehowl splits Cairne’s chest And so, I, who have lived my whole life with honor, die betrayed, he dies before he hits the ground. His body is taken to Thunder Bluff, and after the uprising of the Grimtotem and retaking of Thunder Bluff by his son, Baine, Cairne’s remains are placed upon a pyre along with the shattered debris of his Runespear. Thrall returns to mourn him, he weeps for the loss of a future lifetime of his friendship, his kindness, wisdom, and humor. Thrall speaks to the wind, hoping that Cairne’s spirit hears him, to tell him that Cairne was always the heart of the Horde, he and the Tauren, their true spiritual center, of forgiveness, compassion, and guidance. Thrall places his hand reverently on Cairne’s now peaceful brow, to say a final goodbye to his old friend, and took with him the smallest piece of Cairne’s Runespear to forever remember him and be in touch with his heart, engraved on this was a small rune, this single rune’s meaning did not escape Thrall, healing.

is this all supposed to happen in catac? or offscreen precatac?

Sigh … I still can’t get the Launcher to run and when I start the game after putting in my login details it says contact Blizzard support.

Fuck you Blizzard. My WoW was working perfectly before your maintenance last night. I can’t even put up a support post in the forums. It says they are closed? ><

I like this explanation of why Cairne dies better:

(The Scarlet March = a guild, Maelstrom = an RP/PVP server)

The smell of delicious morsels hung in the air like a Horde Strike Force member afraid to land for fear of being camped. Pilgrim’s Bounty had finally arrived in Azeroth. As always, The Scarlet March gathered together for an evening of debauchery and fine foods. Each member had brought a mouth-watering dish to share among his bretheren.

Once all of the food had been laid out, everyone grabbed a plate and prepared to dine on the bounty of the land. However, after loading up their plates with a smörgåsbord of options, it soon became evident that something was amiss.

“We only have side items” Thweebo said, before being told firmly to shut the hell up.

“Actually, he’s right. Who was supposed to bring the turkey? Wasn’t it Vaelith?” Royastrasz said, his concern growing.

Vaelith looked up sheepishly.

“I was gonna get some turkeys, but then I got high.”

“What did we say about flying at that elevation? The thin air affects your memory!” Manari chastised him.

“No way there are any turkeys left now” Imizael said, her fist clenched in famished balls of rage.

Smaepdii twirled his robust mustache, an obelisk of masculine virtue, growing from underneath his chiseled nose.

“Turkey is overplayed.” Smaepdii said, a devious smile growing across his face.

Most of the Horde did not expect the Scarlet March’s arrival in Thunderbluff, least of all Cairne Bloodhoof. He was momentarily curious of their intentions, but any question as to their motivation soon evaporated when he noticed that they were all wearing bibs and equipped with steak knives. Cairne put up a small fight, hopeful that someone would come to rescue him from The Scarlet March’s growling bellies. Unfortunately, when he saw that the Horde Strike Force was the only guild insane enough to stand between TSM and their holiday meal, he knew that all hope was lost. Destroying the last of the Horde Strike Force, the Scarlet March again turned their hunger pangs towards Cairne. Helpless against them, he laid himself down, and offered his carcass unto the March.

“You can really taste the attunement to nature” Moguna said as he tore from her bit of Cairne steak.

“Of course you can,” Josheb smiled “It’s extremely fresh.”

“We really should have killed him before we began eating” Thweebo quipped, as he cut another strip steak from Cairne’s still warm flesh.

Full on delicious sacred shaman meat, the Scarlet March collapsed in a giant snuggle pile, and drifted off to sleep.

TL;DR - We killed Cairne Bloodhoof. He will never respawn again, and now in Maelstrom lore, he has been eaten by the Scarlet March.
In other words, a bunch of Alliance players forget to get a Thanksgiving turkey so they ate the respected Tauren leader instead.

Just finished my first run through the new Sunken Temple - much shorter (no trolls to bring down before you can reach the Prophet and Eranikus) but the bosses hit WAY harder than before (which could just be an overall level bump, but I’m not sure). I was running ST right up until last nights downtime so it was an interesting comparison. Oh, and no more bloody hole in the middle of main pit.

The best part was that there was quest giver inside the instance, so for bringing down the 3 bosses I walked away with more than 50k XP and didn’t have to leave the instance :)

It doesnt happen in game. Its in the prelude to Cataclysm novel (which wasnt actually that bad). The novel also goes more into the decision by Thrall to hand the Horde over to Garrosh, and the new political situation of the Dwarves.

Idris is right that he is dead, but he isnt executed for being a traiter. Due to a setup by the Twilight Hammer cult, Cairne believes that Garrosh ordered a suprise attack on a Tauren/Night Elf Druid meeting to discuss peace options. He challenges Garrosh to a dual for leadership of the Horde, and due to both of them trying to top the other, it turns into a duel to the death. As mentioned above Magatha Grimtotem (who has been playing Garrosh all along) poisons Garrosh’s blade which allows him to win. At the same time, Magatha engineers a coup in Thunder Bluff which only fails when one of her people turns and warns Cairnes son. The son goes and hides with Jaina while rallying his forces and then assaults Thunder Bluff to take it back. Magatha calls to Garrosh for help, and Garrosh, realizing he’s been robbed of a rightful victory and that there will always be questions about who would have won without the poison, sends her a letter wishing her a long and painful death. Because of the setup, the Tauren remain in the Horde and Cairne’s son vows to not let Garrosh ruin it and help him if needed.

The dwarves are worried about the earthquakes and other stuff preceding the Shattering, and they conveniently find the tablets that (in game) you rescued by killing the elementals. When translated, they supposedly give a way to talk to the earth and find out what is causing the trouble. Magni goes through with the ceremony and is transformed into stone. They dont make it clear whether this was a setup by the Dark Iron dwarves or just a happy coincidence for them, but Magni’s daughter shows up and claims to be the heir to the throne. She enacts martial law among the dwarves and basically screws everything up. The Stormwind king decides to take matters into his own hands and sends in his assassins to kill her. His son (who has been trapped in Ironforge the entire time except for his Hearthstone so he can go talk to Jaina) stops him before he kills Moira, and says the dwarves need to plan for their own government, its not Stormwinds decision. The dwarves decide on a council of three, including representatives from all major families.

The novel really seems to drive home that Anduin Wrynn is becoming the “Thrall” for the Alliance races.

Also, Thrall and that annoying teacher who he was learning from at the Throne of the Elements in Nagrand fall in love.

Looks like Garrosh is the choice. Smart move by Thrall.

*with apologies to P&R

I hate this expansion already. I can’t even log in.

I blame Deathwing

Heh. And such small portions!

I was able to play a bit just now before the server went down. I didn’t know they were changing the levels of the zones. I had a mage in Stranglethorn and everything there has dropped like 10 levels (or at least on the southern end). Some websites will be scrambling!

While I’m not playing anymore, I’d love it if someone can post some screenies of some of the changes. Just for old times’ sake. Please? Thank you!

Mmo-champion.com has pics of all the new areas.

If it just sits there and says ‘logging into game server’ is that a queue? Or should it tell me how long my wait will be? I is noob!

It means it’s struggling to handle the demand.

During that hour, I decided to create a bunch of new characters and try out the new starting zones, specifically Night Elf, Human, and Gnome. While there were some nice improvements to both the Night Elf and Human starting zones, they were just streamlined, not really changed in any significant ways.

The Gnome starting zone, however, is great. You can tell that Blizzard took a lot of what they learned from the Death Knight starting zone and applied it to Gnome starting experience. Although there seems to be no instances of phasing, they gave me a good little story arc populated with interesting quests, instead of just plopping me in the zone for no reason and having me kill 10 wolves.

I thought we couldn’t play as gnomes until the expansion was released. We can start a gnome now? Or do they share a start zone with some other races?
