OMFG!!!

After playing DDO for a few months, it became clear that the worst thing about WoW is the act of looting.

I may have to switch all my chars now. Or would, if it didn’t have a stupid cool-down. Sigh.

It’s one click on the corpse to loot in WoW. How does DDO handle it?

It’s one click + server lag turns in into a 1-3s delay before you can move on. In DDO, there are rare chests that act just like looting mobs in WoW, except there’s only a few per “dungeon.” Mobs can also drop goodie bags. These you click on and their contents magically appear in your inventory without you ever seeing a loot box.

You never need to loot money from mobs in DDO.

I just shift-right-click corpses. No big deal takes a fraction of a second. You must play on a hell of a server with 1-3s lag.

I just turn autoloot on and right click ;)

I do.

It still sucks, and is not fun.

I haven’t played WoW in awhile, but you’re asking for more than right click and it’s all in your bags…? Seems like a pretty MINOR complaint, if there is somehow one there at all.

I couldn’t find this, but for all its updates to the UI and stolen mods and such is there still no unified bag option in WoW?

Use Combuctor. Combuctor is awesome.

I hated DDO for its loot system. I want to click stuff. Having it all just deposited in my inventory never felt right.

Well I suppose it is minor, but it’s still a pita. Why do I have to RUN OVER to a mob and click on it to get my loot? It’s an out-dated concept. It’s even more annoying when you’re in a dungeon and you’re the tank and you noticed you missed a corpse a half a mile back.

Why do I have to RUN OVER to a mob and click on it to get my loot? It’s an out-dated concept.

I think this is one of those cases where Worldness and Convenience may not be aligned. If physical space doesn’t matter at all, the Worldness of a game decreases, and I think for many of us this works against why we like RPGs in the first place. Instant dungeon teleportation is another of those worldness/convenience conflicts, though obviously the verdict is coming increasingly strongly in favor of convenience there. But I don’t think these sorts of design questions are open-and-shut, nor subject to a simple determination of what is or isn’t obsolete.

Yup I think the need to physically loot has value the same way the need to run from point A to point B has value.

If the corpse of the mob you killed is in a difficult to reach location, or you are forced to retreat by other mobs for example, this would impact your chances of getting the loot. Auto-loot at any distance would be a bit silly, and actually removes some interesting gameplay considerations.

I found during the Pre-Cataclysm Elemental Invasion there were group members who did not know how/where to run back to the Blackrock Depths/Maraudon instances to zone in.

You’ve never run heroics, have you? I remember some groups running them so fast there literally wasn’t time to loot the trash mobs if you wanted to keep up.

I wouldn’t mind a change to the loot system. I could see something like only one in five trash mobs dropping anything at all, but that one mob would drop five times what the trash mobs now drop. So it’s a special trash mob but you don’t know it until you kill it and then it has a special glow or something.

The run back to Mara is confusing and obnoxious, though, so I can’t really blame them for not knowing that one.

Yes, my guild is so uber I got my Kingslayer a GS of 2k. :p

So, how many Heroics would I need with the tabard to get the trike mount?

You don’t need Heroics. Any dungeon will give you rep. I haven’t bothered to do the math. You can always check your rep with a faction as you go along to see how you’re progressing.

I did one heroic (Halls of Lightning) and it gave me around 2500ish goblin rep.
